I know this may seem like an odd question since I always considered Monk to be the more obvious choice for a Thief sub until Ninja or whatever other sub was acquired, however, a friend who has an import, as well as handles an FF website, swears that Warrior is better cause of strength increases and that no one in the main servers wants a 'gimped out thief/monk'. I figure that even though the strentgth of a THF/WAR may edge a THF/MNK by a point or two, while dex remains relatively equal for both job/sub combos, the Warrior only has a noticably agility increase. My question is really two-fold, first what does agility affect (I'm thinking only dodge ability which won't matter for a Thief) and wouldn't the attack increase from boost make the THF/MNK combo stronger than THF/WAR? He also said that the time shorten of h2h because of Monk's grapple ability isn't noticable, how true is this? I'm still going to level my Warrior starting off since they're easy to level with no sj, as opposed to Thief's which are a hassle to level with no sj, but ultimately I'm going to fall back on my Thief when I get the sj ability. I'm just wondering if I should do WAR then MNK/WAR then THF/MNK or WAR then THF/WAR? Also, I know this may seem like a long process, but since I've betaed it an I have a good idea on how to level quickly as well as the general mechanics of the game, I'm not worried about time consumption since it won't take me long to do this.

Well, boost is a skill that stacks...but if their dex is the same for both jobs then what other reason would there be for not war. Agi is "primarily" used for rangers inwhich accuracy is increased with ranged weapons. Thiefs regular hits wont dramatically change even if u use berserk or str increase since its only a sub job. :/ anyone else want to help this poor fellow decide?

I would say go with warrior off the start, as you can't go wrong there and it is a nice job to have to sub for other jobs as well. Plus warrior will give you access to a lot of good weapon techniques.
But I would recommend leveling up your monk later on as well. Using martial arts with your fuidama attacks and renkei works well.
If both are available you will be a bit more versatile for PT play. Though at higher levels the warrior sub jobs comes out as you can combine the Thief's Triple Attack with the Warrior's double attack... ie. loads of attacks.RDM 31, THF 30, WAR 21, BLM 19, WHM 16, MNK 12

Actually, I went a different route. I started my main as Warrior with my Mithra. When I get the subjob ability (almost there, have all 3 items and am at level 17) I'm going to level my monk to about 10. Then I'll go back and level my Warrior to 20, do choco quest, then start fresh with my Thief. I'll probably do Warrior sub until about 15, then I have to go Monk. Once I get to 30 I'm going to do Thf/War though because I'll be using dagger instead of h2h and I'll have the ability to use Berserk. Eventually I want to do Thf/Nin though.Do you really believe in anything besides the weight of your guns?
