  • pulling w/avatar

    Greetings,

Just a quick (prob lame) question. If I'm going to pull with an avatar, do I just summon it, choose attack, and after a hit, dismiss the avatar? Will the mob come target me or wander over to my PT?

nope use /pet "Retreat" <t> after it hits while you are running back and your avatar will come back to you. i would use Carbuncle for pulling c/ his mp tic is less.

      NO!

Never use Retreat if you're pulling among links. Use Release ALWAYS in this situation. Otherwise, links will follow your avatar.

      /bonk previous poster.

dismiss the avatar. you get hate for commanding your avatar to attack the mob, and only the mob you told it to attack will come. i did this plenty of times in cn

you are supposed to use retreat espically if you have stuff that might link and follow. The point of pet pull is to link everything and then drop the links.

The trick is to time it so that when you hit release the other mobs that linked will drop and only the one mob you initially hit will come for you.

If you release too earily there is still the chance of links on the way back that you cannot deal with.

Also when pulling mobs that cast spells. It is still possible to link even after you release as they can stand around and relink with the guys around them unless the other dudes started to walk back.

You SHOULD use retreat. Bonk Crow. Agree with previous poster.

Just have to know how far agro distance is and how far link distance and how far your pt is and if mob will cast spells. You want them all to link. Then you drop all the links via release. You will just have to learn how to do this and have a good eye for things. It's not hard.

Also if carbuncle or whoever you pull with can last 30 seconds you can also /pol out to avoid a bad pull by just having carbuncle attack the add or aggro. There is a use for this too. Like vs sand cocatrices, you send in carbuncle to attack, a volicraptor agros you on the way back, have carbuncle attack the cocatrice again and then run back to pt with the voliracptor hitting you.

When back at camp the tank hits the voliracptor while carbuncle is still engaged with cocatrice. You immediately log out to avoid pulling the cockatrice back after carbuncle naturally dies. The pt should be able to take on the volicraptor by itself but you'll be hard pressed to fight both of them. This is of course carbuncle can survive 30 seconds. Vs IT++'s I doubt this stragety is all that useful but this is just one example of where pet pulling does work and where many people do not know about it's secrets.

Well sorry I didn't know. When I was in Valk I had no problems using retreat while pulling gobs. I never linked any. Must have just been me. I pulled for hours and never linked any. So there JK. But thanks for the info I will start using release.

release is ok if there are no other monsters still attacking the pet. However, release (like any other commands) also brings hate towards yourself.

                    If multiple monsters:
WHen your pet dies on the way back after you commanded release, those extra links will come after you too.

                    One monster:
                    release is fine
