  • Avatars update musings, partial evaluation of bloodpacts

    Part 1:
Over the weekend I had was able to nearly perfect my timing for magic bursting with Ramuh's Thunderspark. From my experience, the optimal timing is right at the end of the WS that you want to burst off of, and right before the animation for the skillchain.

However there are some things to note with this. I believe there is some kind of error in the current magic burst system where Ramuh's Thunderspark will not read as a Magic Burst, but you will see the dmg effect as per a magic burst.

    For example:
Against Beetles in Crawler's Nest, on a regular Thunderspark I can do upwards of 190 around level 38 or 39. At 40 I was able to hit 211. On a magic burst this number goes up to 270-280 around level 38-39. (I didn't get a chance to magic burst at level 40 as the PT shortly disbanded) Sometimes when I attempt a magic burst it will just say that Thunderspark will hit for 270-280 dmg but it won't add the message that it was a magic burst. Also note for this ability that at my level it can get partial resists so my dmg can dip way down to under 50 dmg. And it's possible to burst from that base and do very little as well.

    Part 2:
Different mob families appear to have different weaknesses to different elemental attacks. The problem with this is that it does not appear to follow elemental weakness that BLMs use.
    Example:
Against Mandragoras I've found it best to use Ramuh's Thunderspark. It's got a 100% hit rate as well as paralyzes and around levels 24-30 does around 150-180 dmg (level/skill dependant?).
Against Crawlers I've found it best to use Titan's Megalith Throw at level 35-40. I neglected to test Ifrit's attacks but nothing else really can compare to it's damage. However it's got only a ~50% hit rate (my own perception). Around those levels it will hit for almost 200 dmg. I believe it also ignores Defense Boost, but not 100% certain.
Against Beetles I've found it best to use Ramuh's Thunderspark as well. In garlaige had upwards of 170-180 dmg at level 32-34(?).
    - this may be just that they are weak to those attacks specifically or that they are weak to either magic or melee. I'm not 100% sure which it would be.

    Part 3:
I vaguely get the impression that some bloodpacts do not rely on TP for damage. Megalith Throw, Tail Whip and Thunderspark are the ones that didn't seem like they relied on TP, perhaps they use TP to determine the duration of their effects? Shiva's Axe kick did seem like it relied on TP for bonus DMG. Again this is only impression I may go and test these further later on unless someone points me to information about these.

    Um, hi.

The only pacts that use TP are the 2, 4 spells, Meteorite, Thunderspark. Nothing else, that includes Astral Flow. You can check this via <pettp>. The only abilities that can burst are the above mentioned (plus Astral Flow).

The damage variances you seem to incur are probably due to different amounts of TP accumulated on your avatar. There is a burst message.

Pets gain TP in the following manner:
When they hit: 1 hit=8% TP, Fenrir=7% TP
When they are hit: 2% TP
    Multi-hit WS: 7-8% x wshit#

I have not found that the burst timer is best right after the ws intended, but midway through the skillchain animation. Hope this helps.

As far as physical attacking abilities, they all have 2 components. Base damage and base attack. Damage is possible damage which can be inflicted, attack is chance of getting to the maximum of that damage range. Megalith Throw does not have a defense ignoring component, it simply has a higher attack power than whatever else you were comparing it to.
