  • The end of "cure tanking"?

    AFter what they announced on the Sept update, SMN can now have improve damage and accuracy... does this finally mean come Sept 13, that SMN can finally be an effective Damage Dealer the way SMN is suppose to be? what are your thoughs on this fellow SMNers below lvl 70 .....

    I do pretty good in PTs pre patch.. then again I only main heal when whm isnt available.

    If your PT takes so much damage that you MUST constantly have your smn healing then soemthings wrong.


    In a PT i summon the avatar thats strong versus a certain mons and let them smack away or do a power.

    If its carby then hes free for me to attack while timer cools down.

    SO basically.

    1 buff PT pre fight.

    send in green rat
    while timer cools down.

    i have a macro that sens rat away and summons needed avatar,
    do a buff or stat remove. send away re summon rat.

    I consider 23-40 damage a hit pretty good. about the same as non high damage dealers.

      I consider 23-40 damage a hit pretty good. about the same as non high damage dealers.
      The brds I party with usually hit for 20-40. If a non-thf dmg dealer is hitting that low for regular hits, he is extremely gimped...like the 67 drg I partied with the other day who closed a light sc with wheeling thrust for 90 dmg. :sweat:

          also to let you know an all SMN or SMn/BST PT = teh win ^^


          6x SMN = win

          3xSMN/3xBSt = win

          5xSMN/1BSt = win

          5X SMN/ 1 RDM or BRD = win

          4x SMN /1xBSt/1XRDm or BRD= godly rdm should sub war or nin ,
          nin preferably .

              Will they be able to damge in the patch?
              Well that depends on how much the accuracy and damage is increased. I doubt that they would have SMN out damage BLM.

              What are you going to be doing when your bloodpact timer is down anyway. Your not going to melee, rest or nuke with your subjob spells. Your going to be healing. There's no other set up that would help the party.

              Sure go and do some damage every few minutes, but between those [00:59] recast time your going to be doing something that benifits the party, which is healing.

                I did but it may not be what you meant, I answered based on your question . try rephrase it. But I do same damage as PLD in a level up PT.
                If you want to be damager like a drk, then we may get it then we may not.

                I gave youoptions to be a damager. not all SMN players are cure tanks.
                to me a SMn that just cure tanks is bad player.
                and mage type that has whm or rdm subbed can cure.

                as i said if your PT is taking that much damage something needs to be rworked.

                  Being a smn who *almost* only cure, I feel like I have to defend myself here.

                  I only do it because my parties never have any other healers than rdms >_>

                  But I do throw away a buff now and then if I reach max MP. (Trying to optimize chains, by not buffing always, if it doesn't really save on MP from cures)

                    Hiya ^^

                    I just had a few little tests on my summoner to see what had changed. This is what I noticed ~

                    For reference I'm lv 63 with 160 ish summoning skill, wearing all AF armor but the horn. These are tests against weak monsters.

                    Shiva's double slap seems to be one move that has had it's damage improved. mine used to do around 600 ish dmg on weak monsters, now it does just over 1k damage.

                    Ifrit's Double punch has increased in a similer way, but slightly weaker.

                    Leviathan's tail whip does the same damage as it did before the new patch, same with some other moves that cause a status effect that I tried.

                    I also tried raising my TP to use a magic spell. Pets gain 8% TP per attack. With around 100% TP my damage on a IV spell went up around 200 damage from before. So from 400ish before the patch to around 600 ish now.

                    I haven't tested this stuff out on exp monsters yet (barely anyone online right now on my server) so I don't know how the improvements will actually help us with leveling yet or not. These are just really early quick tests I did that I thought I'd share ^^

                          I've never played SMN on FFXI and I've rarely partied with SMNs, but in all other previous FF games SMN has always been a damage dealer and generally will outdamage BLM spells with their Avatars. Of course, it's very different in an offline, turn-based battle system, but I'm just saying...Square's original intention probably was to make SMN a damage dealer in this game too.

                            Just today I joined a PT to test out the new SMn abilites. and i must say square has done a good thing.

                            Our PT make up was

                            SMN,BRD,RNG,MNK,PLD,DRK


                            RNG,MNK did a light renkei
                            PLD,DRK did dark renkei

                            With ramuh i was able to burst Lightning for 590-676 MB damage.
                            1 min later I was able to
                            Burst with Titan using StoneIV for 350-570 MB damage.

                            With personal attacks. Ramuh could non MB thunderIV for 300-450 damage.
                            And was hitiing for 24-36 damage with normal attacks.

                            We were fighting crabs.

                            Best part came when after the PT i decided to test our damage on the Funguar at Boyadas entry.
                            With a PT of 2 SMN ,before the patch it took awhile to Kill them and both were down to half hp on easy mobs.

                            After patch, I can solo that same funguar for 43-50 exp , using ifrit. His doublePunch did about 500 damage and using FireIV did about 663-750 damage .

                            Thank god square saw the opportunity to "fix" us.

                              /excitement!

                              Ohhh thank you thank you thank you for personal reports ^^

                              I have been speaking to a bunch of people about the new changes to SMN, even the full SMN jobs do not completely understand the new changes, but they're already saying "It sucks, this sucks, that sucks"

                              It's nice to see an instance where a SMN has used the new abilities in an EXP party setup and made huge strides. I cannot wait for my spt to meet up, I'm looking forward to testing out some more summoner abilities (albeit it will only be in whm/smn form for now) in real exp setting.
