using summoned spirits?

Im not a smn by any means yet, but Im probably going to lvl the job to use as an alt sub (so at least to 37) I was wondering if i should get (or purchase) the summoned Spirits to use until i am able to aquire the prime avatars. I currently have an air and earth spirit. Thanks for your input.

Get the cheap ones, they're not really useful, but fun to have when you're farming or something. On another note, whatever happened to the hidden effects that Spirits were supposed to recieve, like regenga as long as a light elemental was out.
