New solo Shiva Fight

So the new fights with summons are for level 20 summoners, you can only use carbuncle, and you must do it SOLO. I don't use the job anymore, so I thought it might be funny to see how it is. You're given a mini tuning fork of ice from the NPC next to Gulmama, then are teleported to the cloister. I summoned carbuncle and sent her up, knowing how it would end. Anyway, carbuncle was really really weak against her, as shown in the picture. Perhaps it had something to do with it being ice day. Oh well. I died, getting hit for 50 damage each time (including her en-ice effect)

But I'd love to see a movie of someone beating this. Although i tried getting off searing light before I died, Carbuncle was still charging it and I didn't get to see how much damage it would have done. I'm guessing that's the way to go about this, as I don't see any other way working. What level are carbuncle mitts though, hm? Those might help a bit.

Question:

Was your summoning skill capped? Because summons streangth reflects your summoning skill. If it was not capped it might be interesting trying them with skill capped. Hence, at 20 your skill should be 63. Just a thought though.

EDIT: 2nd question. How much time does it need to pass till your 2nd try? 1day? (which I doubt)

Last I checked, Carbuncle Mitts were level 20. Yes, they would be helpful on this fight....but.... To get the mitts, you need a group that would be more than enough to take on any avatar (exception to Fenrir).

Most of the post have been saying that it is MUCH harder to do the solo fights than it is with fighting the primes with say like 6 members of lvl 60's. That and you have ot spend mass amounts of gil on potions, and ether's or juices, which get aggro, and carb can't hold aggro worth $#!T.

Since I'm lvl 54, I'm only about 2,000 exp from lvl 55, I think I might just get them the old fashioned way, which is camp near the room with the Prime, and wait till somebody comes along to help :p

Seems easier and cheaper to do I still want to fight the primes, but I want to do it in a party, I'm not talking like a high lvl to leech off of, but like.. me as a lvl 55rdm, a few more around my lvl with like a lvl 65 or so pld to tank or something. Try to balance it out a little.

Hey Baruch, think you can help me with fighting the avatar primes with old fashioned way!? :sweat: I don't know any lvl 60whm personally. Kinda need one. My friend was a lvl 50whm a while ago, but stopped playing ffxi so he never lvl since the last 2 months. Now he plays Lineage 2.

Actually, I don't know anybody lvl 60 at all that might help. Well there is Zalbag a lvl 60 pally, I wonder if I can get him to help me :sweat: I just need some help fighting avatars but I can't find a party high enogh to help, my LS is too low in lvls, 1 lvl 56 war, and 1 lvl 48 drk, still not enough to fight the primes.

I only have the shiva quest started, I have no fame in the other cities, I was going to do that after I hit my lvll 55 cap and take a break from lvling my main rdm.

I rather give you 10,000 gil than pay 10,000 in potions and juices, and have a high chance to die. At least this way, I'll actually get the prime :p But I still want to fight the primes in a party which I'm high enough lvl to participate instead of just leeching in the back waiting for the battle to end. Whaddya say?

My summoning skill is at 62, so it wasn't capped, but close, at least. The NPC's mentioned that if I beat her, I wouldn't be allowed in the crystal by any method for a while, but I don't think they mentioned what would happen if I died. When I did, I still got to keep the item "mini tuning fork of ice", so I assume you can go right back in and try again. I didn't do that, and it was taking up inventory space, so I tossed it :sweat:

That is a good point about getting the carbuncle mitts, but if someone were just doing it for fun and had a higher level job, it could be very useful.

Snaf, I might be able to go, but the tank should definitely be over 60. I've gone in with a level 60 paladin... and it was not pretty.

Who gives teh shiva, ramu, etc.

The soloing ones I mean. is it the same guy who gives teh noraml quest?

The person to accept it from, is the person standing next to the normal quest givers. So for shiva, it's the elvaan standing next to gulmama in north san d'oria. They'll give you a mini tuning fork, just trade it back to them when you're ready.

Also, trade it to the protocrystal. At first, I had just clicked it, and almost accepted to enter the battle, but I think that may bring you to the level 60 fight. You don't want that, heh. So if you have the normal fork, I suggest you definitely trade the mini fork to be sure.

here's how it works

you do NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT need food
you do NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT need drinks

here's is what u do.

Summon carb and use him.

when he dies make sure to resummon.

Do this as long as u can keep ur mp above 60.

then cast dia.

Then astral flow

make sure to run

heal up to 46 mp
resummon carb and astral

that should kill him
if not then astral again

u may need to redia if so make sure carbs got teh hate already or ur standing close
with 120 deff (due to prot 3)
ramuh did 12 dmg.

with lower prots he does 20. you will want prot/shell from someoen else but u can live without them.

oh also I for teh record I died because I didn't use astral fast enough and it wore off before I used it a 3rd time on ramuh so I just left the crystal i'm gonna try again tomorow.

Ifrit hurt me cause I forgot to get shell, and didn't get my plan going properly.
