  • The truth about getting avatars

Okay, well I've began doing the avatars I've done 3 today and some yesterday.

Here goes: THEY'RE WAY EASIER THEN ALL THE WUSSIES SAY THEY ARE.

Alright, it's the truth. The only thing that matters at all in your party, is a tank.

You want to here my last party combination in an avatar fight?

Me Taru WHM 53. Two elvaan WHM Mid 60s. 1 Hume WHM 58... Lastly 75 monk.

We did Ramuh, on lightningsday. Yes, we won, in 5 minutes. Nobody was near death. No close calls. No damage dealers. We had WHMs meeling me (I got club skill ups ^-^). Another WHM summoned ramuh and he was, "LOOK, Ramuh's little brother."

So 5 people, 2 below 60, 4 whm, on the day of the element won, easily. By the way, the only food or item used was mithkabob by tank.

The mages wasted all their foods against aquarious (A very mean NM, who got me killed because of a meaner water elemental).

Oh yeah, the only reason we beat aquarious was a friend of some people in our party joined (A rng) half way, and then we gave him the axe that dropped, hehe.

Anyway, avatars are easy. We did another avatar, I forget who, maybe Titan. Same party configuration almost, except we had a level mid 50-ish blackmage. Also easy.

Avatars are easy, final. If somebody doesn't bring you for some reason, tell them to stop being afraid of losing some exp because someone in the party can't do their job properly. I died 5 times today, hehe, I don't care much. We could've even brought a leech for the last one, hehe.

*Stabs anticans and water elementals, and giants who aggro off magic*

No damage dealers? That is all a MNK is. Also, I kind of doubt you were meleeing Ramuh when he did Judgement Bolt, otherwise, you'd be a pretty crispy WHM.

I do have to agree with the fact that a high level tank makes a huge difference though. High level BLMs help too.

avatars are easy huh? these avatars were introduced when the level cap was lower and they were hard battles, try beating any avatar with whatever the existing cap was at the time, of course it will be easier now the level cap is 25 levels higher than it was when some of these battles were available O_o

now go and get fenrir and tell me its easy with the current level cap....no? easy if the level cap goes to +25 levels from now and you take someone at that level? well duh its going to be a damn sight easier.

Oh and i've beaten titan+ramuh on earth and lightning day respectively.

So what your saying is "everyone says xxx is hard"

well lets say "xxx" is a monster you xp off at level 20. 5xlvl 1 and a level 45....is your party going to win? yes, is it hard? no. Did any of the level ones contribute to the battle? nope.

I wish they adjusted avatar battles difficulty so it was according to the highest level in the party.....bye bye leeches, hello everyone working with people their own level to accomplish something.

That way 6xlvl 20 could try and get avatars and have the same chances as 6xlvl 75, only one parties journey to the cloister will be much easier

You brought 5 people, one being a 75. Big deal. 75 RDMs or NINs can solo them. I still don't get your point.

          1. Avatars were not available when the cap was 50, so you can't say 25 levels higher now... I believe the cap extended to 65 when Zilart came out.

          2. If you have a level 75 monk in your team, of course the regular avatar battles are eash. The fights are a decent challenge for 55-60 parties, so you can't brag about it being easy when you've got such a high level front-liner... the avatar was probably an easy opponent for the monk.

Summoner was included from day 1 of release in japan correct?

I imported the NA version on pre-order so I havnt been playing that long.

The zilart jobs were: Samurai, Ninja and Dragoon.

Was summoner added in an update etc? I did check the website update log before I posted ( NA website and japanese ) and the last update info is 26/10/03.

So if summoner was in from the start, only the spirit pacts were available? Maybe an importer could explain fully at which level caps which avatars were added or which updates.

Part of the advertising promo for Zilart was "All avatars available" or something like that. Anyway, wasn't Cape Terrigan and that area, Elshimo areas, and the rabao areas all part of that expansion? If so, Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan wouldn't have been available... Not sure about the others though.

The only reason I posted this was because, I've had a lot of people turn me down, in my 50s. This PLD in my LS (Who I tried helping to get his testimony, except he gave up) said no. He was level 73. I told him they were easy, he said, "if they're so easy, why did I die twice on garuda."

So, this post wasn't for all of you people who are experienced in avatar matches. It was for those who just believe they're Godly....

And yeah, it'd OBVIOUSLY be easier with a new level cap. This post was posted now, so I'm not talking about the past. And fenrir is only 10 levels higher then any other avatar. So, if a RDM can solo it... Fenrir shouldn't be too hard.

Also, about his 2hr, I don't think I've ever seen an avatar use it in a fight... o_O I only saw the monks HP drop down to yellow like twice. Once when Garuda casted aero IV and I forget the other time.

And no, I've been following summoner for awhile now (before NA release), and it wasn't included with the original game. And any balanced party above 50 should be able to do it.

On my final note, I was one of those people who was convinced avatar matches were instant death. All about their 2hr and such, what 2hr XD, I've yet to see one. Maybe the 2hr is rare, rofl.... or maybe our tank just dodged it o_O;...

P.S I just read a post above, and I wasn't trying to brag.

wow....never new avatars were easy to beat.....especialy when a rdm or a nin can solo them. All this time i though avatars were these wrecking machines that do a supernova's worth of damage ^^*. In that case ill just get to lvl 35 with the whm and ask a few lvl 70+ to get the avatars for me......i love ppl doing my dirty work.
Luffy--So which swords are yours? I didn't know, so I brought all three.....
Zoro--They're all mine. I practice Santoryu three sword style.
Luffy--If you fight the navy with me here and now, in the eyes of the government, you'll be one of the bad guys!
Zoro-- Of course, you could obey the law...and let them kill you!
Zoro--You must be demon spawn...but I'm not ready to die without a fight! All right, dammit! YOUVE GOT YOURSELF A PIRATE!!!

That's pretty cheap, but whatever suits you. Until the level cap is raised you'll be pretty unwanted as a summoner (50+) without fenrir.

Also, high levels usually go to avatars just for quick gil, hehe.

                        O.o at Jinzo...

I never said it was easy for the RDM to solo it. Also, not many RDMs are willing to do it - they have to sub WAR or NIN to do it effectively.

As far as I know, my friend RDM and her LS can do it with 5 level 75s - but they all have uber equipment - i.e., not your standard fare, as they are farming dynamis constantly, and Kirin I believe.

I wouldn't recommend pissing people off by begging for Fenrir.

You don't NEED Fenrir. Make your own PTs. Hastega and blink/stoneskin will usually be more than enough for a 50+ PT till you hit 70 and can get him yourself.

Just to let you know Ramuh is the easiet summon IMO <.<. Summon fights need a little luck too... my set PT walked all over Ramuh no prob, did it a few times actually. Then we went to do Titan, on wind day, 1 shotted our DRK and BLM for 1700 if I remember right... and on Shiva our PLD was 1 shotted with 2 hour. It depends more on luck to how much damage Astral Flow does... and yes bar pells were on.
But yeah, to say summon fights are "too easy" isn't that good. And just to let you know (not 100% sure if anyone said it already, skimmed through te posts) Fenrir needs a level 75 PT >.> even 75 PTs have lost to it ><;;.

Like Yuna544 stated, it all comes down if you can resist the Astral flow or not. In our case our pld 74 did manage to resist a good portion of astral flow (300ish damage). Also there were time of unfortunate hits where AeroIV did 500 damage (nearly full hit) with an added double attack of 150 + 260 critical hit which lowered from 1200 hp >>> 300hp in less than 5 seconds. There are times when its out of your luck... a 60 pld would have perished with this sort of attacks.

As for cures, yes CureIV might suffice but in times of struggle CureV is a god send. At least on my group of 4 members managed to keep pld's hp always maxed... then again we had the best mp regen in the game with us.
