I have the offering, I even got the paintbrush while I was at it, but then I sat down to 5 hours of decimation to the Tonberry Stabber population for his Prelate Key drop, only to leave empty handed.

    My question is this:

Do Stabbers even drop the key?
And if they do, is there an area where they spawn more than 3 times on the map?

This was so fustrating, I feel that I wasted 6 to 7 hours of my friends' time, and for nothing really to show for it but a few light crystals and some tonberry robes.

If anyone can offer suggestions, this would be greatly appreciated.

    P.S.

I also got an ex/rare kitchen cutting board as a drop, and a ugglepih whistle from a ??? point in the coffer spawn area. If anyone know's what these items are for, I would love to know. Thanks

      Prelate Key

I have had no luck with the Prelate Key either.

It is the key needed to open the door to the last map where you spawn the NM. If anyone has any information on it it would be appreciated.

      Thanks

        I answered my own question.

Tonberry Choppers drop the Prelate Key. They spawn in Yhoator Jungle on the second floor of the temple. They're about the same level and difficulty as stabbers. There's not too many of them around that I found.

I have the key and offering now. Mittens next.

When I went an alliance member had a key. However, you don't need the key to get into the final area. Key makes it safer and easier. Harder way is to stand by the door and use magic to aggro Pods, who will open the door and attack you.

Choppers???!?!?!?! Gahh ok, i'm going to eliminate their whole population tonight.

Also, standing by the prelate key door, and using magic to aggro the pots actually works? I was under the impression that mobs can go through doors without opening them. Is this door the exception?

I will try this, thanks for the tips

Chopper? Hmm, we got our key off a Tonberry Stabber inside the temple.

Anyhow, the fight is pretty easy for a couple pts of 60-70. We went and did 8 gloves.

He spawns, carbuncle does a weak version of Searing Light on whoever spawned him (I actually put my pet up and made him eat the Searing Light, and either it never broke my stoneskin or is single target, or maybe AF gloves effect? Either way the first one isn't bad. He has all the normal Tonberry techs, as well. He takes 2 60-70 parties about 3 minutes to kill, drops the light spirit 1/3 or 1/4, gloves every time. All you really have to watch out for are his throat stabs, and the second searing light (does 500-800 damage I think).

As for the ??? spawn for the offering, if camping it solo keep up stoneskin and blink. A random sleep2, then flare or waterga3 from a Tonberry Maledictator isn't fun!

Tonight I obtained my Carbie Mitts finally!

Tomoh was 100% correct about that door opening for mobs inside that want to get at you. However I wasnt able to aggro any pots, but rather targeted a Tonberry inside and somehow cast dia on it. The result was the same, and my party was granted entrance without that pesky prelate key.

Thanks for that valuble info Tomoh, it's much appreciated

For those who have done it, what do you think about 1 level 68 group killing the NM? Is that enough or will I need more?

                    Thanks.

1 PT of 68 would be fine but you'll have to watch out on throat stabs and the second searing light.

Question about the offering, is it called "Tonberry offering" on the NA version too (if it was called that on JPN version)? Because I was running around the temple last night and cliked on a ??? and got a "Tonberry Rattle" <.< want to know if that is the thing I need for the gloves.

It's not the great that are strong.

Hmm I got a Tonberry Whistle on one of my ??? Clicks. My friend got the Tonberry Offering from deeper inside the temple. And that's what he used to pop the NM. I still have that whistle, and have yet to find out what it is used for. Some Zilart Mission perhaps?

Maybe your Rattle is in the same category as my whistle.

the rattle, as i understand it, is to pop the NM in the room with the Den of Rancor entrance. On the table, there is a ??? that you trade the rattle to. This spawns a Ninja-class Tonberry. He'll Mijin Gakure, too, so be careful. He drops a level 55 RARE/EX Katana (NIN only of course). Hohotogoke or something like that. I just remember it has a parry skill + 5 attribute.

the whistle is for a different part of the temple. That'll spawn the pot NM that a thief can steal a mana barrel from. The mana barrels are good for turning hard shields into holy shields (alchemy skill 60+ i think). The pot itself will usually drop a Charging Shield (PLD/DRK only) i only remember that it converts 10hp to mp.

Sorry i couldn't be more clear. I am going off of memory~

oh wow thanks for the info. I'll do some research on where to pop this NM with the wistle. Perhaps the spot is in the kitchen area maybe?

                                Edit:

Speakeasy says that this NM is called "Sacrificial Goblet" and it pops at I-8 somewhere in the temple. More info as i get it.
