  • Damage Issue with my Sam

Hi I was just in a pt with
    PLD/WAR
    DRG/WAR
    SAM/War(me)
    RED/BLK
    WHM/BLK
    BLK/WHM
in Gustav Tunnel killing Hawkers, gobs and bats

    My equipment at 40was
the Rare/lvl40 G-katana (forgot the name)
    Centurion Visor
Spike or Fang Necklace (the better one)
    Beetle Earrings+1 X2
    Jujitsu Gi
    Federation Tekko
    +2 Dex Rings X2
    Wolf Mantle+1
    Brave Belt
    Ryl Squires Breeches
    Federation Kyahan

I know my equip is decent not pimped but I noticed that the drg was constantly outdamaging me by 15-25 dmg each swing and the only gear the drg had that I thought was nice was the one sniper ring. (She had Emperor Hairpin but I think it sucks for Samurai)

I was dealing about 65-75dmg without berserk
Drg was dealing 80-90 dmg without berserk
    with berserk
    I was dealing 85-100dmg
    Drg was dealing 90-110 dmg

Skillchain was Double Thrust---> Tachi: Enpi
her souble thrust went for 200-300dmg
while my Enpi did like 150dmg

Cause of Meditate I would be throwing off Enpi sometimes for extra dmg but I still felt that the drg was outdmging me. (Considering the addtional dmg with her pet)

this made me think how much I NEEDed Ochiudo's Kote...
It was frustrating to see another member dealing, in my opinion, so much more dmg than me

I have 250kish right now planning to do BCNM40 with my LS

Any advice on what equipment I should change if I got cash from BCNM? I really love Samurai and wanna make it the best as I can get it to be

Hawkers and bats are flying mobs and as such are weak versus piercing. A dragoon will always outdamage you on these.

But even in general, DRGs do do more damage than SAM most of the game. I think they have a bit more strength and they get an ACC bonus.

It's normal for a DRG to hit harder than SAM. Their weapons have more DMG and swing slower then ours do.

our goal is not do more dmg than all other melee. no, our job is always be ready for a skillchain. so get enough acc and you could start every fight 2 skillchains. att is 2nd priority

Yeah DRG damage per hit should be higher than yours (if they're any good). What food were each of you using? Swordbelt or +1 is good to use at 43 too.

Just think of Samurai in previous FF games. They've never been about straight forward damage or hitting harder than everyone else, basically brute force. Samurai have always been technical fighters, that deal balanced damage but deal damage that gives a variety of indirect effects, like breaking armor, stopping movement, aflicting stun, and finally for some situations a technique to damage immensely with one blow.

Samurai are all about Techniques, not brute force in regular hits. Thats the Drk's style.

I hope SE adds things to Samurai that go better with that philosophy. All about techniques, and being able to use them in ways no one else can.

How the hell can the Emperor hairpin be bad for Samurai's? Probably the best thing to have on your head till.... somewhere beyond 40 anyway. :D

at your level +atk still makes a difference, and i'd say a kote would definitely help close the gap at your level.

if you don't want to get a kote get a sniper ring and a +str ring to replace the dex rings and improve accuracy and damage slightly.

and emporer hairpin is definitely better than a cent. visor >_>

                    Yeah I know...
Just not worth the money for me right now rather get the sniper or the Ochi...

I understand that Samurai isn't about brute force, it was just that my dmg seemed to rival drk and drg before 40 (and after 30), and suddenly they deal 30-40dmg more than me at lvl40 (well drk I can understand)

                    And I have a question
What mobs are weak/strong against G-katanas? I heard it was equal to all mobs xcept jellies and elementals not 100% sure.

Just camp your Harpin and Kote out.
Easiest way (from money side) and your happiness will grow and grow if you get one of these items yourself.

Every meele will do less damage on slimes and elementals, AFAIR.

                        The way of a samurai.

I think they're resistant to all physical attacks regardless of the type of weapon.

mmm.. they're pretty equal on most mobs.

there's a penalty vs. bones and flying, and i think we get a bonus vs crawlers. not sure on the bonus, i just always seem to hit for 20-30 points more vs. crawlers @_@; everything else is no +/-
