  • What is the point of the Samurai..?

Man, I don't mean to be a spoil sport, but I am really discouraged with the Samurai class.

Ever since MMORPG first debut I thought it would be cool to be a Samurai. Now, finally, my favorite game series created a game where I can be one! Yes! Great! Awesome!

Now...after researching tons of posts and forums, the consensus seems the same.

Samurai are a waste of time. No one even considers them in the endgame PTs. I mean most of the time in other forums, we aren't even mentioned.

Can someone please enlighten me on this. I really want to be a Samurai but I also want to get it groups so I can actually progress in the game.

    Help me please...

    Thanks guys...

Alright, now you've obviously have it set in your mind already that Samurai isn't worth the time. My advice is for you to get in game and actually play the job. Don't research everything, don't read how a few people think the job is "complete ass". Just go and enjoy being a samurai.

The biggest thing is to get it out of your head that Samurai isn't worth the time.

      I quote my RNG friend.
"After Lv65 I always invite SAMs in my PTs. They can keep up with the SCs and Lv3 alot."

This is what I hate the most: Just because other ppl tell you that being something a waste of time that ppl get discouraged in wanting to be that job in the first place.

ppl will want you if you know how to play your job effectively. That means keeping your equipment updated, always try to equip things that can help your weaknesses (in a SAM's case, Acc.) And most importantly, know how to work in a party efficiently. As a SAM, that means to know your Skill Chains, and learn to be a efficient backup tank when the time arises.

SAM's aren't the most developed job in the game, of course, but in any case, if you can work through its flaws you'll be fine. But in the end you should want to be the job because you like it, and enjoy the premise of it. You shouldn't take other ppl's opinions into account.

I'm glad you decided to go with SAM, I felt exactly like you at first but then I tried it out myself and I'm loving it! Never diss it 'til you try it.

SAM doesnt start until Lv30. Until then your just some WAR with a GK that can outdamage every melee :spin:

I'd like to see you outdamage a WAR, considering they're the only class with berserk up utnil 30. :spin:

Hell, my axes did 20-30 damage (normally around 30) and a SAM hit for 40-60 damage (normally around 50) and that was with Fish Mithkabobs and no Berserk.

/em Points out biggest "Omg this job sucks"
                    Dragoon
                    Why do dragoons suck?

Well im still trying to find this one out, they have better acc then us sams, they do better dmg per hit.

Their weaponskills arnt as good as ours, but that cant be the only reason none on the server dislikes dragoons..

Is it because they cant spam pentathrust any more? <like it was very effective in the first place>

Somone fill me in on this, i know this isnt the dragoon thread but its a related topic i suppose... Dont belive what everyone says until you've experienced it.. and if you like it who cares if they think it sucks you play the game to please yourself not other people...

Its not that they really suck but there is nothing that really make them stand out etiher. Unless you count the flying rat that does nothing but do 5 damage per hit and die to aoe's .

Honestly good drgs are still very viable till 65. They do great dmg over time (my friend, 65 drg, keeps up with and exceeds drk dmg output, well at least till he got to 65), gain tp reasonably fast, and until 65 are about as good as most other melees and a nice trick partner. After 65 things change though.

At 65 drgs gain Wheeling Thrust, a great looking but sucky weaponskill. Let's put it this way, on a too weak you will hit for about 200-250 with a 300% wheeling. Hehe yesterday my friend hit for a big fat 90, I think in an xp group. Terrible dmg to say the least, and outstripped by all the other melee classes. Heh I think a hexastrike wielding whm would prolly deal more dmg. I've heard Impulse Drive isn't much better then Wheeling which kinda sticks the nail in the coffer. Also people like to level up on bones at that stage which drops drg dmg output through the floor.

Samurai's complement all the other melee classes so they make nice additions into the party. Additionally, pair a sam up with a mnk and you can make pure dark and light renkei's. Drk's, while whiffing like idiots, have amazing ws's that can also be used to secure hate (sorta a must since the dmg from them is so high, still drk's are kinda a mixed bag for me since they take sooooo long to gain tp). Mnks tear through bones and have a high DoT. War's deal nice dmg, can ghetto bard, and easily backup tank. Out of these drg's fall to the wayside due to not excelling at anything that the other tanks can do.

When I'm playing RNG the FIRST job I want in the pt is samurai.... Rangers gain tp like mad XD we need a samurai to keep up.
...so we will step away from the mainstream to live like vagabonds and common dropouts... don't you want to hang out and waste your life with us? -Spike
