      good to have for soloing... farming etc

      maybe go to CN and stay by the zone and tank worker crawlers? level up polearm or something on them or just stand there and take the hits and see if your evade goes up. then zone out when hp is low lol.

      Or get some friends together for a skill up pt and tank mobs that you think will level your parrying? Just some ideas, i need to level mine as well ><

        Luckily for samurai, you can level your secondary defensive ability (evasion being primary) while using something other than your primary weapon.

        You want parry skill? Grab a *club* or something with similarly craptastic damage, and go fight worker crawlers or something similar (workers being somewhere around the level 43-45 range, as I recall). Work your way up the food chain, you'll probably be able to solo your way up to 130ish skill using a non-primary weapon and not be in any risk.

        After that, you'd probably have to switch to a great katana or perhaps a sword, and fight slightly higher level monsters (level 50-52ish would be good). If you do go with a great katana, use a level 40ish one - maybe bring the AF out again - to keep your damage down so that you don't kill too quickly.

        Monk, on the other hand, is stuck using their primary weapon (HTH) to level their secondary defensive skill (guard), since it only raises while using HTH weapons. It's not nearly as easy for monks to purposely gimp their damage, either, as their bare fists alone are about as good as daggers (for reference, at 52, I attack twice, occasionally three times each round with the equivalent of a 19 damage 170 delay weapon, if I go barefisted, without a warrior sub).

        Other things to help you out...you're going to want as much -evasion as possible, as parry only gets checked if the attack would've been a hit. Unfortunately, most -eva comes with +atk = killing your parry dummy too fast, so make sure to use gimped weapons. ^^

        At 89 guard skill myself, at 52...almost capped for level 29. I'm hoping at some point I'll be able to tank for skillup parties, coffer hunts, etc.; that should help quite a bit.

          Parrying is incredibly slow to raise no matter what you do. Mine is at 115, and I've tanked plenty of AF key camps, other camps etc. The only way you're likely to cap it is tanking as much as a PLD does. Even most high level PLD I know haven't capped it, just got it in the 200's.

            some one else posted some where here about stubling boots, since they bring your agi and eva down 10 or 20, that means you will be sure to get hit more, this way raising shield and parry skills, said some high lvl jpn do that, sounds like a nice way to raise your perry skills, have like 20k to blow, sounds like a good idea.

                Find a ranger beastman and a close-range beastman. Engage the ranger with the closer-range one right infront of you. So it will look something like

                R = Ranger
                C = Closer Range
                U = You

                R > C < U

                This will keep you from killing C, so you can level off of the same mobs the whole time.

                Also, I heard AGI effects parry? Not sure how true that is.

                  Word is that AGI effects all defensive combat skills (evasion obviously, but also parry, guard, and shield). That's what I heard anyway-- take it for what it's worth.
