Sam usefulness issues past 60, I seriously don't understand...

  • Sam usefulness issues past 60, I seriously don't understand...

    I PT with one Sam regularly, he does his job very well.
    His Jinpu sometimes matches my RF and RF > Sidewinder is powerful to say the least.

    All this sam sucks past 60 stuff, I can't see it.
    It makes no sense,
    this is the only job that looks like it can effectively use close range AND long range weapons
    and he can pump out WSs like a sub-machine gun.

    Where is this doubt and complaining coming from?

    Noob SAMs suck.
    Also, post 60 SAM gets nice equips, Medi Bonuses, and can skill chain more with /SAM jobs.

      too bad, my videoclip with Shadow Lord fight wasnt good. Cuz I can show you guys, what a Sam can do. I did with Meikyo Shisui + Meditate + Sidewinder 5 hits at the start.

          1st thing , do not expect too much on samurai or you wil be disapointed .
          Samurai does NOT get fast and much Tp as people think .At 50+ , a drg , rng , or THf can get TP faster than samurai anytime if samurai doesn't use Meditate. With 3 Tp Store , samurai only get 13-14 Tp per hit , compare to 1 handed weapon , they don't really get much. (7 TP x 2 )
          Samurai does NOT do beter dmg if you are not 60+ AND eat rice ball.
          1 last thing , next update will make samurai less powerfull than other jobs, that's so sad. :mad:

            Other major issues with sam is the lack of fusion at 65, so your stuck doing darkness and distortion in the tree, so no bones. You can't fight bones till 71, after you've done the WS quest which is non-trivial. Accuracy and good gear are insanely expensive, 2.2mil gil for armor (only real alternative is assult jerkin, so you need to get some peeps to fight Ose). Then you need your sniper rings and O. kote, or buy HQ riceballs to keep up with everyone else. Then look at G. Katana choices in the later levels. Your kind of stuck til 72 with an out-dated katana unless you are in an HNM ls, and a damn good one. Your also missing any good +acc on weapons unless you can fight HNMs.

              i also noticed that in the 60+ that jus about all the uber weaponskills start chaining together. RF/howling>sidewinder, howling fist/RF>dancing edge, howling fist>penta thrust.( im a monk so i m using monk ws as an example) which totally takes away the middle man the samurai.

              of course a sams sub plays a big role too. sam/rng would be able to spam sidewinder like hell but on high lvl IT mobs the sam would miss alot of with sidewinder. unfortunatley since theres an abundence of dmg dealers some one would probably choose a rng or an other dmg dealer over a sam jus because they would already have a personal bias against the sam.

                The huge issue is at level 65+ if your not using level III reneki you might as well not PT. DKN/sam right now can do the job of a sam much better, being able to switch out weapons and reneki with 2 different people. Sam right now can only level III with ninja and pld, not exactly the best reneki partners.

                  at the risk of sounding like a rookie, I hear conflicting info about how level 3 chains work, and why samurai are good or bad.... I've heard both opinions now.... does creating level 3 chains differ from level 1 and 2 ? anyone got a link with info? I'm dangerously close to gekko myself, so better get a clue now than later :p

                  Also, from watching the samurai at 65+, they all have jumped massively in the last few days in level, and it's not static parties.... there must be a reason.

                    All of the grinder NAs are getting to that level...it's natural to see a lot of the advance jobs increasing in level faster now (the slower grinders have caught up to the uber grinders).

                    Also...


                    next update will make samurai less powerfull than other jobs, that's so sad.
                    How so? Everyone else is getting hit with the TP change and we might lose self-renkei. Is that what you're talking about?

                      You make level 3 renkei with two level 2 attributes. You can combine level 1 attributes to make the initial level 2 attribute, but you must end it with a skill containing a level 2. Only level 225+ weapon skills have level 2 attributes.

                      Distortion and Gravitation make Dark
                      Fragmentation and Fusion make Light
                      The chain can go either way.

                      Here are some examples.
                      Dragon Kick {Fragmentation} >> Tachi: Kasha {Fusion/Compression} [Light]

                      Red Lotus Blade {Liquifaction/Detonation} >> Tachi: Koki {Reverberation/Impaction} [Fusion] >> Spin Rush {Fragmentation} [Light]

                      Swift Blade {Gravitation} >> Tachi: Gekko {Distortion} [Dark]

                      Tachi: Jinpu {Scission/Detonation} >> Penta Thrust {Compression} [Gravitation] >> Cross Reaper {Distortion} [Dark]
