To all my fellow Samurai People!!!!

I've been really successful on Siren server with my Samurai and would like to spread the wealth. First off, get ready to be compared to jobs such as Dragoon and Dark Knight. A lot of people tend to down the Samurai Job a lot. Mostly it's because they haven't partied with a lot of Samurai Jobs or because they were with inexperienced Samurai Jobs. The Samurai job can actually be a crucial part of a party. Most people like having DRK & DRG because of their massive damage. As a Samurai I've noticed that I've been hitting a lot more than DRK and have been able to out do a DRG in "Overall" damage. How? Well, TP my friend. TP is your bestest friend...second to that of the WHM or RDM in party of course. Your TP gains allow you to stay in the damage band. The only thing is that you have to be able to hit. I've equipped a crap load of DEX and Accuracy enhancing items. I tell you, it's worth the price. I'm able to pull off 3-4 WS a fight. What makes Samurai helpful in a party? Well, unlike DRK and DRG...you can be the Back-Up tank! I am in a dedicated party now. And when our PLD has "Connection Problems" I automatically provoke and hold agro with WS+Provoke until he gets back. Also....the real secret between the Samurai is the amount of Renkei you can do with other people. Our dedicated party consists of a BLM, WHM, RDM, PLD, THF, and SAM (Me). Our BLM keeps a constant stream of damage on the monster while our PLD holds hate. The PLD is one of the most essential parts of our party. He uses his Cure spells to hold hate. He also uses his abilities such as Shield Bash, Sentinel, w/ provoke. The WHM of course does our healing with the help of the RDM. Our RDM keeps our BLM and WHM MP filled by casting "Refresh". Now you're probably wondering... "Why a THF?" heehee Our THF is our secret weapon. Our THF sub's SAM as well. She needs to Sub SAM to keep up with me. You're probably wondering what kind of Renkei right? Well....our Renkei does over 700-1000 points in damage (Plus more w/ Magic Burst). I normally Sub WAR so I can take advantage of Provoke or Berserk. When the PLD has everything under control I use Berserk for that added boost to my attack. The WHM will cast haste on the THF and myself. Then the fun begins. Upon hitting 100%+ TP we start our first Renkei:

    1) Tachi:Enpi > SneakAttack/TickAttack/ViperBite
-This is done with the monster facing the PLD and me directly behind the monster opposite to that of the PLD. The THF of course is behind me. Right as the Renkei is near completed the BLM casts Blizzard II. Right as the BLM finishes the cast the PLD will start to cast Cure III on himself. The amount of damage depends on creature type. This Renkei is Distortion.

    2) Meditate/Tachi: Enpi > Hard Slash
-This is a weaker Renkei and optional. This is only done if our THF keeps missing for some odd reason. Again this is a Distortion renkei. Notice the use of Meditate first. That's because this is done right after the first Renkei.

Most of the time, we tell the PLD to just WS whenever he wants. The Renkei the THF and I do does more than enough damage to make up for the other Jobs not in our party. In fact, the most we've been able to do the first Renkei consecutively before the monster dies is 2. Most things die before we can pull off a third. However, there was a time where we did 3. We're all Lv.47-48 now and were scrambling for a place to level. The Crawlers Nest was crowded. So we decided to go to Garlarige Citidel and fight beetles on the lower floor. When we got there a high level party with AF on formed up next to us. We were like... "Uhm, are they here for EXP?" And yep...they were. Well everything rated as Incredibly Tough. So we decided to take on a beetle. First off, this fight lasted way too long. When we're able to pull of the Renkei listed in number 1 (Tachi:Enpi > Sneak/Trick/Viper) 3 times then well...something is wrong. Then the PLD and I were able to pull off the Renkei listed in number 2. The only reason we lived was because the PLD was able to hold hate with the WHM healing him and the RDM replenishing the BLM, WHM, and his own MP. All in all we did over 4000 points in melee damage with the four Renkei. The BLM was the one that made up the other half of the damage. You're probably thinking 4000 points of damage isn't all that...but what I didn't tell you was that the beetle was beating on our PLD with over 100+ per hit.
Okay, that concludes my little scenerio. But if you noticed, the SAM was the heart of all Renkei that were done. This is what makes being a Samurai special. Now when our PLD is on a roll and we know we're going to have a good day, I'm able to Sub THF. Why sub THF? For sneak atack of course! You can use sneak attack to actually steal hate from your tank. This works great if you really really wanted to plan the monster onto the the PLD. Start off your battle with the PLD provoking the monster off of the puller (Our THF). Have the THF position himself/herself behind the PLD (Tank). With 100% TP start the Renkei in number 1 except add sneak attack:

    SneakAttack+Tachi:Enpi > SneakAttack/TrickAttack/ViperBite

The SneakAttack+Tachi:Enpi should be strong enough to overpower the PLD's provoke. You have to communicate with the PLD not to use anything that would steal hate during this time. Also, your Tachi:Enpi will do signifcantly more damage than normal. In most cases it'll do double the damage it normally does. Then the THF will finish off the Renkei and the Sneak/Trick Combo will plant the monster onto the PLD. The PLD can hold hate with ease at this point.
Note: You don't really need sneak attack to do the above combo. Provoke will do just fine (Minus the added damage).

Okay my fellow Samurai people, show everyone how much we really rock! And if they still don't believe you, form a party with 3 Samurai. Then do a 6 WS Renkei:

    Tachi:Enpi+Meditate > Tachi: Kagero+Meditate > Tachi:Enpi+Meditate > Tachi: Kagero > Tachi:Enpi > Tachi: Enpi

heehee it might not be really effective but it sure is fun to watch!

    Take care and be well.

I'm Probably going to dust off my Homura (...again /blush )
I must be a glutton for punishment.

Your tips have been helpful, I feel I would be letting you down if I gave up the Samurai job permanently...

Detrimental means a negative part, adversely influencing, damaging. Kinda threw me off when you said that..

Detrimental threw me off too. I'm thinking he meant a poor samurai can be bad for a party, no? A poor <insert job> is bad for the party, not just samurai.

Although I found his thread lacking in "tricks", most of it was preaching to the choir, it was a "feel good" post. Mostly it bellies the need for a good group, moreover the benefit of being in a set party: which, I would say would be the "tip" if anything in the above could be construed as one.

          oops

Heehee yea sorry about that. Gotta excuse me when I type things out in the odd hours of the day. But anyway, asside from my horrible use of vocabulary....you get my point though right?

Anyway, this post really isn't to satisfy anyone. If you don't like it, oh well. I just wanted to share my experience with everyone. All that matters is that people have fun!

          Take care!

              Aaah you're gonna love this!

Well, our BLM finally hit Lv.50 and was able to use the ancient magic "Freeze". This spell takes about 17 seconds to cast. After three tries, we were able to get the timing down pat. So the renkei went as follows:

BLM Casts Freeze (With Macro telling us when to start)
Then we do our usual Distortion Renkei.

              Tachi:Enpi > SneakAttack+TrickAtack+ViperBite > Freeze finishes.

All in all damage on an incredibly tough Rumble Crawler: 1876 damage. Freeze did 975 damage.

Other than that! I finally have Tachi:Jinpu (WindAttack) and love it! I did 223 points of damage on a incredibly tough beetle in the Citadel the other day.

Oh and I saw Ulynne playing on her SAM. She's so seksy with her G.Katana heehee... :p

It's just nice to have a job that I find fun. All my friends in my party enjoy their job as well. Our PLD is always finding things to help him with defense (Actually he keeps sending me Fire crystals so I can make Boiled Crab/Crayfish for him). Our BLM is still the Taru of doom with all his spells. Our THF just loves being able to do the most damage with a single WeaponSkill in our party (she's seksy too). And our WHM still thinks she can tank (j/k). Well, take care everyone!

                  ah...

Well, again that Lv.60 thing is from popular belief. Even though they get meditate, they won't be able to hit a full 100% from it. And other than that, SAM TP gain will still be higher. I think all jobs are great though. It's cool that you're going Samurai though. And yes, WAR is a really beneficial Sub. Well, so is THF. Mainly because of Treasure Hunter 1 and sneak attack. From my experience I think Enpi is the only WS we have that stacks over Sneak Atack. I'm not too sure because the highest WS I have so far is Jinpu. Well hey, feel free to post here and give an update on your progress. I'm doing this so people starting can see what kinds of stuff you can do with Samurai.

DRK/SAM or DRG/SAM make to much hate on them. DRG/SAM has high jump, but other than that Penta is useless to spam at higher levels. Plus SAMs are there to make bonuses on attacks plus their own.

At what level does THF/SAM become able to keep up with a SAM for TP? 60+? Or does the level 10 SAM skill help out enough?

I've heard that 50+ THF/NIN can generate TP good enough because of the delay reduction to dual wield the NIN sub gets.

                        It's a small difference

Well, I asked our THF your question and she says she only Sub'd SAM for the small difference in TP gain. And yep, she was almost able to keep up with me in TP. But now she sub's NIN. So yea, she's a THF/NIN. She uses her Ninjitsu to weaken enemies depending on our set Renkei. And yes because of her short delays she's able to keep up with me in TP. I hope this helps. Take care!
