  • Is it just me or did Samurais get shafted?

First off: I play a Samurai and intend to keep it as my main job 'till the end.

I was looking through the list of job abilities/traits that the expansion classes got and noticed that the ninja/dragoon/samurai get less than half what the other classes get. Ninja get dual-wield to make up for this, which would seem to be a significant damage increase (I haven't played one or played with one so I can't really judge that.) as well as a set of spells. Similarly, Dragoons get a pet Wyvern that boosts damage nicely. My question is, what did Samurai get to make up for the lack of traits/abilities?

lack or bard abilities is made up by the fact that they are the most sought after party members.

To clarify about ninjas dual weild ability giving a bonus, it does not. You have to add the delay times together, so the damage per minute is exactly the same as with 1 weapon.

the delay gets shorter the higher the level you are, so you're actually attacking faster than if you just had 1 weapon.

I thought the only advantage to dual wielding is getting stats bonuses from 2 weapons.

Dual Wield only adds the delay of each weapon until lvl 25, then there is a percentage deducted between swing times. Another upgrade happens again at 45, and then again at 65. So a Ninja will DW faster than someone subbing Ninja, as they get older.

2handers are far superior for damage compared to their 1 handed cousins
the only 1 handed weapon that can compare is the dagger and even then only in short bursts as it is sneak/trick attacked with the dancing blade WS.

other than looking cool and blink tanking , ninjas arent really sought after for much.

it is true in their current incarnation samurais make a better subjob than a main job. but since there are only 3 viable combinations that use sam as a sub , and even by doing so arent a significant improvement over the sam/war combo or other incarnations of their genres, you can pretty much just go with your tastes on this one

basicly if wielding a bad ass 2 handed katana < doing pimp damage then play a DRK or a DRG
