  • Sam not good after 60?? and some other Qs

Ok.. so I have been reading more and more on the boards and have heard lots of talk on samurai... a few people said that after 60 samurais aren't very powerful and become kind of useless??

Samurai so far is the most interesting for me... I am big into japan history and they look awesome...

are their weapons strong? are they useless after 60?

Right now if I become a Sam I am probably going to sub in warrior... the majority seems to think that this is the best choice...

I want to raid gods and have people want me in their group.. I don't want a uesless class =p

What are some negative things about samurai?

What are some positive things about samurai?

    Thanks guys!

Sorry to say,but in my experience,Samurai becomes kind of useless after 60th.

    Negative things for Samurai
Weapon:2H Katana becomes kind of useless becouse of its poor WS and damage/sec rate after 60th.
And 2H Katana cannot shoot Lv3 renkei like any other weapon after 65th.

Mokusou:Other melees can get mokusou ability with samurai sub after 60th.
Though it produces only 60TP in each time,it is almost enough to gain 100TP to shoot WS for renkei or rush.
Ofcourse they can shoot useful WS with their weapon, instead of clap 2H Katana WS.

And ,I can not find any positive things after 60th about Samurai.
If you want to raid huge notorious monsters,it is better to be PLD,THF,BLM,WHM,BRD,RDM, or BST.
In my server,BST Guild killed Ancient Goobue and Fafnir in Boyada. That sounds cool.

Thats horrible if Samurai is being reduced to (a good sub). I know its kind of dumb to say but it is kind of irritating. It is obvious that their strength is in weapon skills but the key factor is that their weapon skills suck. There is obviously a simple solution to fix it but I guess it's up to them whether or not they want the samurai to be powerful.

One solution would be to use Samurai's '"B" weapon, the Spear/Polearm, and bust out its 5-hit WS -- Penta Thrust. However, playing Samurai without a Great Katana is just isn't right IMO. It is kinda discouraging that after level 60, Samurai just become a good subjob for other melee.

The problem with this solution is a B weapon is going to have more trouble hitting a Totetote than your A weapon will. Kind of pointless to throw a 5 hit weapon skill out when you hit for less damage and only connect on 2-3 of the hits.

I would like to hear from high level Samurai and get their opinion on the subject.

                  to davidmmmm9,

Zando said he retire at level 60, but your sig said you're 60+, so do you share the same opinion as him regarding Samurai after level 60? Do you use a spear or Great Katanas?

                  Thanks.

I think it's pretty safe to say that square intended the expansion jobs to be mainly allocated as MAIN, not sub. So, if the samurai are being absolutely worthless after level sixty, I think I smell a patch. A patch like the one that nerfed Thief.

Well, 3-5 pentas from Samurai is still very effective in one fight, and they can also use Sidewinder (dont know how much damage it does with samurai, but i see alot of samurais 60+ subbing Ranger. Or is that for the accuracy bonuses?).
I really should thank you for it afterall it was your life that taught me the purpose of all life.....Purpose of life, is to end.

                        I hate my life.

Hmm, well I guess then I'll have to level Ranger. I plan on being a SAM/MNK...even if what you say is true. Who knows what might happen to it in the future? Hey, look at theif. >.>

Anyways, weither they suck or not, I shall be a samurai/monk, with Ranger leveled up as well.

Well, your sig said you're a 60/30 DRG/SAM and I was looking to hear from Samurai who are level 60+. But if you're also a level 60+ Samurai then by all mean share your thoughts on what you think of Samurai after level 60 (not on the use of Polearms)? Do you also share the same viewpoint as Zando?

Those of us who haven't play the game or didn't get Samurai past level 60 in the beta would really like to know.

BTW, I'm also leaning toward the DRG/SAM job combo, how's that working out? I would appreciate your thoughts on that also.

EDIT: just read your opinion regarding DRG/SAM in this thread: http://ffxi.cogn.net/forums/showthre...threadid=21127

                            Thanks for the info

How disapointing.... I hope SE will fix this issue. It seems ironic that a japanese game would make its own war cultural symbol the Samurai, weak and useless.
