  • "Unable to cast Regen on <Player>"

So Im out in Buburimu and I get asked to buff a trio so I go over and start, but I get the system message "Unable to cast Regen on <Player>" and I was about to try to wrangle the AT into asking why when they ran off...

So I started thinking about that, Was it possible that that player was wearing gear with an unstackable Regen, so I couldn't cast it on him? Why wouldn't it still let me just waste the MP?

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Regen can only be cast on members of your actual party, not anyone outside of it, including alliance members.

Refresh also works the same way, ffr.

      Ahhh, Thank you!!

So I can do some things to outside players, but not others. Must dig into the wiki to see if I can find anything about that...

In addition to what Callisto said, the game doesn't stop you from wasting MP. See also the article entitled Slow/Hojo interactions.

Don't forget how the mob's accuracy goes up 3 fold when you actually blind it.

Also, I'm pretty sure there's (or, was) an obscure setting that would allow you to refuse help-- it would make it so nobody could cast on you, and such. Mainly used to combat MPK, and confuse people..

                Yeah, /blockaid (on|off)

Keeps anyone outside your alliance from casting on you. I don't think it's all that obscure anymore.

Huh. That would explain why I got a "you cannot cast magic on that player" message once or twice. I thought it had something to do with what gear they had on.

Just to add to the /blockaid on. I prefer turning it on while camping NM's helps keep the mages from just dropping a high lvl cure on you and stealing your mob. Sadly I had it happen once and /blockaid religiously now. Good thing I was just messing around at the Leaping Lizzy camp but hey it was annoying.

Could you link to that - or tell me where it is? I'd love to read it. Didn't find it here or on the wiki...

There's not much to the topic, is there? IIRC,

(Slow II or Hojo: Ni) --overrides (and prevents)-> (Slow or Hojo: Ichi)

Hojo: Ni cannot override Slow II and vice versa; same for Slow and Hojo: Ichi. If a RDM cast Slow on something NIN has landed Hojo: Ichi or Ni on, it'd say no effect.

Also, Haste can override Slow, Hojo: Ichi, and other tier 1 slow effects, and prevent them to begin with.

Don't think Haste can override tier 2 effects; definitely cannot override Spider Web. Spider Web (and tier 2 slow in general?) prevents Haste. If you cast Haste on someone hit by Spider Web, you'd get a no effect message, I believe.

HNM linkshells use blockaid all the time to prevent hate stealing from other linkshells. It's quite useful. And also if you just want to try to solo something, hope people still remember that old video from the Dragoon soloing Sea Horror... (Well it was impressive at the time anyway.)

Oh, that makes a lot of sense too. But yea, most HNM linkshells I know use the feature when they claimed a HNM.
