    Re: Red Mage Testimony

    Haha!
    Finally beat Maat (a.k.a. the cheater) a few weeks ago;
    though, I didn't do it the way everyone said to do it...
    I tried that way 4 or 5 times.. Didn't work for me..

    So I tried something else, and it worked, \ ^_^ /
    I didn't sleep him, or dispel him, and I hardly buffed up...
    I didn't think it would work, but it did!!!
    And I beat the time record too... haha!!

    Thanks to everyone who gave me adivice ^^

      So what method did you use? Congratulations, by the way. :D

      I wouldn't have won if it hadn't been for sleep and dispel.

It's a great little excursion--quite entertaining. The best part is killing Tonberries which, for some reason, is kinda fun. We farmed near the Hate Reset which also means that if you already have your key, you can just reset whenever you feel like.
        This is the same that happened for me, I got it actually when I was level 62 or 63. Someone magic aggroed the pot and it dropped a testimony, and my party members were nice enough to let me lot.

          Re: Red Mage Testimony

          Well, this thread was originally about getting a testimony, not practicing for Maat. If it had been about how to practice for Maat, I would have said:

          1) If you don't know how to solo, you need to learn how, including sleep/nuke technique,
          and Ruby is definitely good practice and a good measure of your soloing ability (although I cant imagine getting to lvl 70 without learning to solo), and

          2) Fight Maat.

          The closest thing to Maat is Maat himself, not the Ruby Quadav. And you don't lose exp if you lose to Maat. The only thing you lose is the time you spent farming, and the gil you spent on medicines. Yea, Ruby's a RDM, but if you ask me, fighting Ruby is not the same as fighting Maat. You're probably not going to use your 2 hour every time you fight Ruby. You will use it every time on Maat. Ruby's not going to run up to you and use asuran fists. Maat will do it asap. Ruby needs TP to use WS's. Maat does not. You have a subjob when fighting Ruby, but you don't when you fight Maat. Bind sticks for quite a while on Ruby, but it usually doesn't last long with Maat. You probably aren't going to use expensive medicines when farming, but you probably will use them when fighting Maat. etc.

          I'm not saying that Ruby is not good practice. It is. But the bottom line is that I've learned alot about fighting Maat by fighting the old man himself. (but I've also done alot of soloing). Every time I've fought him, I've done significantly better because of what I learned in previous bouts (I'm 0 for 3 now, and came really close to beating him tonight). So for me, I guess I'd rather get the testimony in the most efficient way and take another shot at Maat. But everyone's different. If you don't feel right about taking along a THF to get it faster, then by all means, do what you feel comfortable with.

            I don't think anyone here claimed that Ruby was anything near the challenge that Maat is.

              My GF is always solo-ing Ruby Quadav, she has been since lvl 68 or so. She's been "practicing".
              Soon, she'll go for round 2 with Maat. :-P

                You beat the record without buffing, sleeping or dispelling.

                So... you killed Maat in record time with his blink/SS up, full shell and protect, and taking his chainspell and stupidly tough physical attacks.

                Sounds like you haxxed it to me, or got someone to just do it for you, unless you want to explain further.

                Anyway, congrats.

                    Haha!!!
                    I know, I wouldn't believe someone either if they told me they didn't do it the way everyone else said to do it, and with all the buffs and sleep and nuking.

                    Sorry, I don't have pic's or vid's... well simple, I don't know how to do it..
                    But I can tell you how I beat him...

                    Macros

                    [Alt1] = Diaga /ma "Diaga" <t>
                    [Alt2] = Chainspell /ja "Chainspell" <me>
                    [Alt3] = Aero III /ma "Aero III" <t>
                    [Alt4] = Blink /ma "Blink" <me>
                    [Alt5] = Vile Elixir /item "Vile Elixir" <me>
                    [Alt6] = Vile Elixir +1 /item "Vile Elixir +1" <me>

                    I went in there naked, then used a Melon Pie +1 (I think?)
                    Macro my gear, snapped it on real quick.. ran to the circle and did the following..
                    Healed for a bit to get MP to 600+

                    Blink -> Diaga -> Chainspell -> Aero III {A few times} -> Blink -> Vile Elixir ->
                    Aero III [Again a few times} -> Blink -> Vile Elixir +1 -> Aero III {until you win}

                    I think I had like 15HP and around 300MP left

                    The "Sleep & Nuke" never worked for me; tword the end Maat would always resist my Sleep..

                    But, that is how I defeated Maat; I didn't pay someone to do it, I didn't have a friend do it.
                    I did it myself, and as hard as it is to believe.. I did it.

                      Re: Red Mage Testimony

                      Ahhh, the 'expensive and luck' related method.

                      Mine was similar to that, but with a few sleeps thrown in for good measure.

                      Congratulations.
