  • What was your first really tough solo fight?

I just had mine a little while ago. I raised someone in Garlaige Citadel (the area you xp around 50), and they caught aggro from a bettle. After running around upstairs checking how everything checked to me at 57 I figured it was just another EP. I put it to sleep, and did my usualy debuffs and buffs (refresh, haste, enblizzard, ice spikes, slow, poison ii, bio ii, protect iii, shell iii, etc lol). After I bio'd it, I started to beat it up with my Crimson Blade, but I was only doing 15-30dmg/hit + 13 added dmg. I knew something was up. After a few hits, my stoneskin went down. Right when it went down I got hit by a 110dmg critical! I was really getting worried. After throwing that back up I noticed I was up to 300% tp (I was having fun before getting the tell for a raise) so I did Spirits within with full health. 405dmg... barely even made the beetle flinch! A few more stoneskins and I was low on mp. I slept it, converted, and put up fresh buffs and debuffs. After a few more minutes of getting beat on, I finally beat it and noticed I got 100xp! I just solo'd my first EM since like lvl 5 haha.

What was your first mean fight like?

Tough robber crab in Kuftal Tunnel for me. I was 62 RDM/ 30 DRK. I was there to skill up sword, and I had been seeing very poor results on DC crabs. I had tackled a few EM ones, and they were only slightly harder than the DC ones. Still, I had to sleep them at least once to reapply stoneskin, convert if neccessary, etc.

So since a pt was exp'ing there, there werent many crabs to choose from, and all I could find was a Tough. I said, aw, screw it and pulled it. I figured it couldnt be much tougher than the EM, but it was. It ripped off stoneskin in 2-3 hits, and I ended up spamming cure 3/4 to stay alive. Finally I got in a groove, and was able to beat it down. I think I ended the fight with 300 HP and 25 MP. VERY close to dying. I guess I just underestimated this one, since I really had no major problems with the DC or EM ones.

With more preperation and maybe some smart use of sleep, I think I could have come out in better shape at the end.

Regardless, the exp can't match what I was able to get as BST at the same level range, where it is commonplace to see chain 3 190+exp. BST is still the reigning champ of solo, but RDM does a good job.

Avatars as a gimp 75RDM/12NIN. They're a lot tougher when you only have one set of shadows to work with. :spin:

arguably, the time when I mass-raised an entire pt in Crawlers Nest after they linked the Sprout Mobs.

They were TW to me at 60, but they hit hard and they link, and when 5 of them team up, well, I had a problem. It came down to me killing the last one, like i should have before the others respawned, or just raising the last pt member.

I opted to Sleep II and raise, and right AFTER I raised, the Sprout woke up and effectively called 13 of his friends over to attempt to gang rape me. I started casting escape as soon as I saw him wake up, and THANKFULLY, Stoneskin held out long enough for me to get the hell outta there.

When I fight T mobs, I have no prob since I target mobs I know are jokes.
        -Can it be slept?
-Can stoneskin last more than 3 hits?
        -Can I Aspir it?

If answers are yes, I take it on. Robbers in Kuftal are a joke to me, but maybe Gman was in a different situation. I remember though that I never need to convert on those, while on Helm Beetles in the back of Crawlers Nest (the ones near Knight Crawlers and Crawler Hunters) gave me a problem. I got 160 exp from it, so it was High End T, I suppose, even though it said Low Def, but I had to convert mid battle from having to reapply buffs/debuffs/and Stoneskin so often.

Soloing is fun and every oppprtunity is a chance to learn and add on to what you know

The tree for the SAM quest, did it as 45RDM/20BLM (still working on the sub at the time, but I wanted Warp).

I fully buffed up, then spent a couple minutes trying to get close enough to the ??? to trigger the NM. When I did, buffs were wearing very soon in the fight.
While it's not really a hard mob per-se, it was one of my first times trying something reasonably hard solo (for the level), and I won with like 50% health and near-no MP. Properly prepped and with more specialized gear it would probably have been a little easier..but back then, the Earth Doublet and stuff I had was about as far as the ol' budget would go.

LOL, you just reminded me of when I tried so solo Forger (the bomb for the SAM quest) I forget what level I was, but I think low 40's. I took a beating, and managed to beat it with very little HP and MP to spare. At the time I forgot I could dispel its berserk effect, and it was just giving me a beating.

I tried the Treant at level 50 and I remember beating it fairly easily.

Also, wish... the reason I had such a hard time with the tough crab was because I wasnt ready. I got interrupted casting stoneskin several times, causing me to get low on life and panic. I was mainly worried about blood aggro from the nearby haunts.

Also, a correction... my DRK was not level 30 at this time, it was only 15. RDM62/DRK15, and I didnt have my sword skill to 200 yet, so no Vorpal Blade. I was hoping to get VB during my skillups, hence the subbing DRK. For some reason, Drain and Aspir were really bad with DRK sub... thats the reason I ended up needing convert. I was getting very little MP and HP back... could be because DRK was such low level.

Skilling up on tough crabs in boyada using the sleep+ceremonial trick. I fell asleep and when I woke up I got 3 crabs linking with my HP in the red zone... 2hr heal myself up, sleep them all, switch to my main weapon and start killing -.-

killed 1, too much trouble so I escape from the other 2.

As 50RDM/BLM25 I solo'd a Very Tough Tulwar Scorpion in Western Altepa Desert. I Gravity+BioII+Burn+Rasp (PoisonII wouldn't stick), ran around, recasted DoT spells when they wore, took about 25-30minutes, I converted twice. Threw in a Fire II a couple times. When Gravity would wear, he would catch up to me and hit me for 100+ per hit. Big problem was I couldn't sleep it because of the DoT spells, Bind would last longer than I expected, that definetly helped. -.- Tough fight but it was fun, came out alive with 4MP and full HP.

if you had aspir with your drk, it had to be at least 20, that's when drk gets that spell

my tough battle was with an air elemental in tahrongi. i was lvl 30 blm, was using dagger to skill it up, found an elemental and started to attack it, of course it silenced me so i couldn't cure myself, and it kept beating me down, finally a friendly whm came along and cured me, so i lived to fight another day

                      Really tough?

Ose at level 70. Gave me like 240 xp and no Jerkin >.<

Even VT mobs (especially ones with MP) just take patience, they're in no way difficult to bring down usually. If they're unusually sleep resistant or have a poo-load of HP they can be fun, but as long as you can sleep them and keep your buffs up, they're a walk in the park. IT mobs can be a pain (just due to resistance, especially to nukes), but so long as you can sleep it and nuke it, it's killable.

High-level NMs are a whole 'nother can of worms from your regular prey, they're both hard and fun. They usually start to build resistances pretty quick (Ose is almost completely unresistant to sleep, but he does shake off Bind and Gravity fairly quickly, especially after a couple casts), and they tend to have all sorts of nasty WSs and other little tricks (like a chance of Enparalyze firing on their regular melee attacks).

Can't wait to hit 74 and start chasing the NMs I can't kill now.

                        D'oh!

Well, to be honest, I'm not sure exactly what level my DRK was. This was definately before I got it to 30 because I didnt have Souleater. Must have been in the 20's then. Still, my aspir and drain were getting resisted bigtime...

Mysticmaker when I was in my low 50s... Don't remember the exact level. He did Freeze, some GA2, then shortly after Flood... I beat him, but it wasn't cool.

My toughest solo fight , which I will call a draw , was between me and the Shadow Dragon in Xarcabard when I was level 55. He Petrified me and I stood there while he beat up on me slowly. A PLD came and killed it for me, but I was standing among undead with red HP for about 2 minutes.

Mysticmaker was my first also, but at 62ish. I got two other gobbie links but they were completely sleepable. Also gotta love how fast those Bar-element spells go up.

I read that RDMs can solo the "Holy Cow" ENM buffalo.. does anyone have details on this?
