  • Food Consumption

    Hi guys

It's been a while...and I mean a while since I've played my RDM, but now it's time to pick up that hat I'm so fond of and head on into battle once more. However, a few things making me wonder the choice of food for consumption. Can someone explain how you as a elvaan RDM at 65+ or maybe lower level these following stats or provide advice for a Elvaan RDM 65....

    *MP Regen
    *MND
    *INT

I'm pretty sure INT is important since we are low on it, but I'm sure I could possibly make it up with some gear but MP Regen is still a mystery and as a Elvaan I beleive I have a good amount of MND, however I'm getting resisted once more in Bikini Bay and I don't like that....at all.

Perhaps I should label my gear....but I'm lazy ROFL. I'm sorry. So if you have gear suggestions please tell me and I'll tell you if I have it or not ^^ lol, I know I know I'm a lazy bum sorry once more and thanks for all the help. Take care.

    [EDIT]

For reasearch it seems Brain Stew is the most well rounded food item with a duration of

    3 hours
    +5 to INT and MND
    +3 to MP regen

However would like some more advice.

I didn't list MP+ because I've hardly ever ran into a situation where I needed MP and didn't have Convert up.

I use Marron Glace, and it hardly seems to hinder my performance. The 70 MP I get from it really does help keep the chains a lot ^^

I was told by a whm friend to use Golbin Mushpot. It last for 3hrs and gives alot of mnd and +MP regened. I dont know how mutch because I have not leveled rdm sence I learned about it (too busy doing CoP missions).

I really think that INT is not verry important because only 1 enfeble we really cast is INT based and that's gravity. With gravity it either sticks or it does not. I carry arround a set of INT+ gear that I equip in my gravity macro.

The strength of spells like slow and paralise is dependent on your mnd and the mobs mnd, so more mnd will slow the mob more and paralise the mob more often.

I'v really never had a proublem with MP regen while healing. I'v been fine with just my dark staff but I supose that the extra cant hurt at all.

No Ifs Ands or Buts about it.

Wouldn't the elemental enfeebles such as shock and burn be considered INT based? I use shock a lot to lower the MND on some tougher-to-stick mobs. To me, INT is also very important because I MB.. A lot of my gear is pointed at INT, but I get some MND as well.

As a taru, i really dont need to focus on INT. I have no INT based gear and I stick blind and sleep at least 90% of the time.

MND is a real good focus for Taru's. If youre a Taru RDM Id consider the Goblin Mushpot that someone mentioned. But youre elvaan. Elvaan have good MND and bad INT. Id suggest +INT food (pies) and maybe Zircon/Genius Rings.

I dont find mutch use for int because:
                1. plds use flash and that over wrights blind so I only cast it if I have a nin tank.
                2. Blms usaly do the elemental enfebles like shock and frost because they are baised on elemental magic skill, idk about you but my elemental magic skill is really low.
                3. Elemental Seal + Sleep II I have never had a proublem with the mob wakeing up early.

That is just my view on things from my experience.

Ok, Zempten, we're on the same server, so what is the going price for that Brain Stew? Is it stackable? Possibly not.. In any case, i think you hit the nail on the head with that food. And someone also mentioned Goblin Mushpot. I will try both of which during my week off when i finally get my television back (wha-hoo!!!!!)

Personally, as a Taru on a fixed income, I used Witch Kabobs. Never failed me and gave me a damn close Convert Ratio (HP and MP were only 7 figures off)

When I was leveling, I lived on "Melon Pie +1". It give me MP + INT which are the two things that I wanted. Since I did was joining random pickup parties, it makes me think twice using the 3 hrs food because 1) they are not stackable and 2) you just don't know how long or how good the parties is.

As for gear, I tried to max out +INT and elemental magic if I could. The extra damage is sometimes needed to get those chain 4 and chain 5 and you don't want to see those you nuke for 21 damage, it is quite embrassing, haha.

You probably know that Dark Staff is pretty much an essential. Moldative Earring and Wizards Earring is what I used.

But Brain Stew seems good if you can afford it. I have also heard many RDM used Sweet Rice Cake too. It only last 30 mins tho.

It's cool to see you pick up RDM again.

I'v never focused on nuke dammage, even for MBs. I'm a elvaan and even with some of the best gear I can buy (RSE2 is in the 1.5 million area) I still dont have enough MP for a level 2 or 3 nuke for MB. I like to keep a little MP in reserve incase we get a link and I have to sleep tank it while the pt is killing the other mob.

Sorry been playing around lately...literally ^^

Anyways, yeah I'm back Habaut ^^ Does that make you happy? hehehe

Anyways, the way I am seeing it righ now is

                        MND = Slow and Paralyze
INT = Blind and Gravity (Blind behin practically useless since the PLD is always flashing and when a NIN is tanking........well usually most good NINs I've PTed with WAY back before always wanted to cast thier own enfeebles for the added hate, which after playing NIN I can undersand now)

So I'm guess it's all going to be situational.......

                        For NIN: MP+ and INT
                        For PLD: MND+ and MP+

I think I know what food I am going to start eatting ^^ I think I remeber seeing some that gave +10 to MND or +10 to INT.....I think that will work beautifully along with Shock ( BTW, I've been using my Ice Staff for casting Shock and I guess it's the + to Elemental Magic cause it's not getting resistend so much along with my 2 Zircon Rings)

I don't think I'm too concenred with INT because I don't get resisted much on MBs in Bikiki Bay, but if things get bad I guess I'll have to wait for my LS to get to 60 so we can do some of those BCNMs ^^

                        Take care and thanks again

                          http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/6030

                          Its what I use as a RDM. I am in a static and we usually got 3+hrs per session. I rarely lvl outside my static, so I ask the pt if it will be 3hrs or more. It's expensive on Bahamut @ 30k a pop. ; ;

Ah nice. Thanks for the food choice, I'm playing around but right now I'm leaning to MND primarily. Reason being we usually do DRK SC in PT and my Blizzard rarely does anything but 300+. However, my Slow and Paralyze are being resisted like hell atm. Well, I leveld to 66 last night so hopefully my resist will be lowered. I've been fighting in Den of Rancor and Bikiki Bay

Your Blizzard get resisted because your focus on MND, or rather, not enought INT and Elemental Magic. From my experience, the mob will mostly still resist a lot unless you get uber gear. And ever if you landed Paralyze, Slow, most often they don't last long.

Since my goal is to have consistent chain #5 in regular xp parties. I just don't think emphasis on landing enfeebling can compare to the ability to deal extra 300-1k damages if needed (to ensure chain #5).

In most situation, the damage output (without 2 hrs) for your party is pretty much constant. But we have less time to kill mob as the chain goes up. Slow and Paralyze are defensive too that lessen the damage that done to us. It does not allow us to kill any faster for the upper chain. But if you are able to add to the damage with MB, you have the ability to increase the damage output for the party.

However, if you have the money to spend, and the extra slots to hold gears. You can maximize both MND and INT for each spells. Which a good RDM should do anyway. I didn't have the money to do that. So between the 2, I picked +INT and elemental magic.
