  • RDM/BST thread

FIRST off im tired so if at one point i make no sense... :p

Well I finally Hit RDM 70, also on the side killed Maat (5th attempt, but 5th one was very easy with sleep nuke technique, not 1 hp loss, only lotsa gil) Beside that let me talk about RDM/BST

Since i got 70( a proud moment to enjoy the bst leave command) I decided to play around a lot, as well as discover some very interesting things.

Off the bat anything Easy Prey for me was Extremly Easy to charm ( except darks day, redicilous fails)

But on the other hand my Girlfriend Had many trouble charming, she has 70blm/30bst.

Than my Brd friend 69BRD/10 BST had trouble as well.

We were on GC easy prey funnel bats & Beetles.

People say Charm is related all to chr. I can confirm it is false to a certain extent

Now after seeing that they had many trouble, I decided to gauge

Weeee Should have no problem charming
Heeeeeee will have a very tough charming time
Snky will have a very tough charming

at the moment I had 95CHR (I have a Charm switch gear set adding a whooping +thirty something) + Light Staff

    The brd had 120CHR about

    my GF had about 65ish

My good BST friend 69 has about some chr as me, give or take 2 points. using light staff as well.(intresting no ? :p)

I remember reading post about bst as subjob also takes into account your max BST LV

My bstmaster lvl is 47, so we can see that it has a great impact.

so.... we get to a interesting thread

If any of you have a BST only lvl 37 and is rdm 70. please tell me what the beetle gauges.

This is not specifically a RDM forum post, but it leads to "Solo" with no RL person.

I am currently researching this. and I STRONGELY belive there is a mathetimatical calculation on this.

Now im no math wiz, but these are our variables:

    56-58 Mob Lv

A bst to charm these reliably and easily without difficuluty would need to be 57ish to charm, they could @ 54 for its shorter charm(i can verify what lvl they will gauge "Can charm" from bst ls)

    My Rdm is 70

Chr will not be part of this formula

So if anyone can whip up a magical rough formula that i can test around with

Anyways more test will be done ^^

I dont have any hard evidence, but my theory is that if your bst can easily charm the mob, then your (insert job here)/BST can easily charm the mob (provided you have decent CHR gear)

Example, Crawler Hunters in Crawlers Nest are VT-IT to my BST right now, but would only be Decent Challenge to my RDM. Even with full CHR gear and light staff, charming them would be difficult-moderately hard. As a BST I can charm a VT, but the charm doesnt last long. As RDM the charm would last longer because the mob is DC, but the chance to charm successfully would be reduced. Still, it would probably take me 2-4 attempts to get the charm, same as it would for BST. Difference is my BST wouldnt live long enough to get to the 4th attempt :p

70+RDM/70+BST is the most powerful thing in the game, IMO. Check my sig to see what direction I'm headed.. ^^

What I've always seen when people ask about /bst on the bst forum is this:

(Current main job level + highest level on bst) / 2 = charm ability

So, say (70+47)/2 = 57.5 in your case. Those beetles are level 56-58, so that works. The duration of the charm is all about your main level vs. the mob level though.

That would explain why your friend and gf had such a hard time charming and you were able to do it rather easily.

Something that I've never seen tested is trying to charm at a lower level with /bst and a very high bst main. Going by that equation, I'd be able to charm Scorpions in Altepa rather easily on my 38 whm... but it'd only last about 5 seconds due to the difference in levels. But in theory, I'd be able to charm them quite easily. Like I said, I've never seen it tested in reverse like that. (38+69)/2 = 53.5 hmmm.......

having hit 35 as bst i hope this holds true,

i am intending on taking it to 75, once there I will most likely sub it to my rdm, simply bacause rdm is my first love, i hope this is going to stay true,

being addicted to farming kindreds and beastman seals,

        <I love you Kuftal>

anyway, yes even on failed charms rdm and brd have it easiest, due to sleep, your charm attempts will not wake it up,
its taken at most on average about 2-3 attempts to charm an EP,

the only reason for me to stop my farming is because my pet needs to heal,
in a fight there is nothing i can do to peel hate from my pet, other than nuke, <why bother> anyway fingers crossed i hope this isnt nerfed by SE,

I play RDM/BST all the time, RDM 75, BST 63. Right now the (RDM + BST LVL) /2 seems to be true for success of charming. I can farm all eyes but the Den of Rancor one right now with little issue, and I charm about as well as my level 69 beast friends.

Duration of Charm however is a different story, there is no +charm gear that I can see for jobs other than beast. So there is no way to increase charm length via equipment. Also the lenght of the charm is only dependant upon your main job level. So it could be very hard to charm a torama with a level 1 bst sub, but if you did it would last the same length as an rdm/bst with a level 75 sub.

Soloing as rdm/bst at 70+ is very easy too, DC --> Tough works fine, so have fun against pots in Ru'aun. Exp is the usual even to tough grind that you do as a beast with c4 and c5 if you can get dolls to explode. The key to these fights is enfeebling the target monster as much as possible which makes it easy for you to win (think solo as a bst with working enfeebles).

Keep in mind that ogre gloves give you + reward, and although I don't have confirmation, it appears to remove status affects like bst af does. I have around +40 to +50 chr depending on what I'm using, and I always use a light staff.

What is really nice about rdm/bst is that it follows the usual bst paradym, pet > you, skill > equipment, so you don't need anything fancy to be a good bst/rdm. You do need to remember though that your effectiveness as an rdm/bst is completely determined by your pets, in CN, the Tree, Ru'Aun, Ulg Rng, I outdamage ANY rdm/whatever since no sword I know does over 100dmg+ ^^ on a tough. Still in other places your just gimp
