  • Later guys.

Not intending to be dramatic or anything, just thought I'd say goodbye here, as this is where I've been most active in terms of forums, and I didn't want to leave anyone hanging, waiting for my next zany tale.

I'm leaving FFXI for WoW. I played the Beta, and in my humble opinion, it's simply a better game. Unfortunately I can't even bear to log into FFXI anymore, nor can my friends. So we're doing the most logical thing.

I'd like to thank Apple Pie for sharing the wealth of knowledge he has, and all other RDMs who listened to my spiels and mad science experiments, I really appreciate all the food for thought you all gave me.

I'll be checking the forums a few more times in the next 1-2 weeks, so feel free to leave a message, or leave a PM.

    [Take care.]
    Ruic the Red - Retired
Thanks to FFXI and the community for the good times.
    Moved on to WoW.

Ruic, it's been fun having you around. Experimentation with RDM tanking was especially interesting.

Let me know where you're going to play WoW (Server, RP/PVP/etc, faction etc.). I'd love to join you, as I'll probably be switching over also in about a month (when I get some real free time), if you'd be interested.

Playing the Open Beta, I've simply had more fun, and I don't want to give that up just because of the time I've invested in FFXI.
      There will be cake.

We'll miss you, Ruic. I'm proud of being here with excellent red mages who always try something new and prove it works.

I'm not sure when I quit this game but I'll keep posting my findings on this forum. Of all RDM forums I've seen, this one is the best.

Good Luck on your WoW life and take care.

Always sad to see a fellow RDM go...
It's been a new trend recently and many of those who I have grew with in my FFXI career have left as well. I hope you enjoy your future endeavors in WoW.

I blame SE for failing to address the issues in FFXI with the CoP expansion. Thats what I personally think atleast...

Take care Ruic. I'm sorry that I never got a chance to do anything fun with you while you were still on Midgardsormr. I'm going to be giving WoW a try, and if its half as good as some of my friends say it is...well...I can say that my FFXI time will take a severe cut. Ah well, c'est la vie. Send me a PM/IM with what server you're going to be on. Maybe we could play together or something. I intend to play on a PVP server as an Orc Shaman (maybe Tauren Warrior...I'm so torn). I'll definately be horde though.

Anyways, here's to the one and only RDM/NIN who I've ever respected (RDM/NIN in exp parties, that is). Take care man.

Not to turn this into a WoW thread, but it's FFXI related...

I had a Tauren Warrior named Bloodtear on one of the RP servers... and sufficed to say I heard a few "BLOODTEAR'S UP!" while running around the Barrens.

I play on PS2 so I cant abandon for Warcraft

My only MMORPG option is EQ Online adventures... ewwww

Anyway, GL Ruic, hopefully WoW will live up to the hype and all these people that are leaving FFXI for it wont be disappointed they did. God knows FFXi has problems, but I still love playing it, so I'll stick with it until I no longer feel like turning it on.

Wow, the sole reason I got NIN was because of you bro. And heavens knows that FFXI has issues, buts its still hella fun... And for you to move on to WoW says a lot about the game.

I hope you have fun, and i hope that you dont run into Gil-farmers, stupid economies, n00btasticular players and the such.

:p hope I didnt jinx ya! [Take care.]

Thank you all for your kind words.

For the curious, I'll be playing a Night Elf Druid. I'm not sure what server yet, but it will definitely be PVP. Most of my guild is moving as well, and we're interested in RP and PVP. We will be on an East Coast server, possibly Central, as a rather sizable group of us are based in Atlanta, including myself. We will almost certainly be Alliance. Though we will likely make other characters on another server for horde.

And I'm sorry if this went terribly off topic. I had no intentions of that, so I apologize if it bothers anyone.

As for if my quitting FFXI really says anything... FFXI is a great game. WoW is also a great game. But I'm a college student, and not to sound haughty, but a college student at one of the toughest schools in the nation, with an aggressive schedule to boot. I'm majoring in Biology, minoring in Economics, and getting a certificate in cognitive neuroscience. WoW offers quick, flexible play, that lets me accomplish more than sitting around waiting for other static members or AF parties to start. Not having to compete with people for camps/drops, or spend hours reading over forums for information that should be common knowledge is also a huge plus. There's nothing hidden about WoW. I applaud its honesty to the players.

For players who have the time, and the sustained social network, you would probably get more of a feeling of accomplishment from FFXI. For me, with my close-knit group of friends, WoW is simply much more worth it... I remember someone else put it as "It's an MMO that lets you have a life."

What drew me to FFXI was the challenge of it.

What draws me to WoW is fun. Sheer, unadulterated fun.
