  • testimony acquired - my challange awaits.

ho boy. last night i got a testimony with another rdm and a helpful drg. the rdm had done genkai5 approx 4 times...

so here i am thinking i can do it at 69. and i'm gonna try. apple pie, heh, i've been watching your video quite a bit this morning... very inspirational. especially the music.

i'm leaning towards the bum rush method. plan on going blind-slow-para to remove blink, then sleep2.

    then yagudo drink.
then buff myself, dispel if needed. blink/stoneskin/shell/phalanx.
vile elixer if needed (maybe use a high ether? heard casting times is awful)

    then nuke, nuke, sleep.

convert, pop a yagudo drink. chainspell - nuke nuke nuke nuke. gobble a vile elixer if needed and pray.

i realize that i most likely will die. heh. i'm no apple pie :spin: . basically, i'm going on a scouting report with nothing to lose. but should it look like i have a legit shot at this fight - i'm going all out. from what it sounds like, you can basically tell right away - getting that first sleep in is the key it seems.

might try it tonight. just felt like posting about it.

    cheers!

(my only question to grendal/apple pie - what did you have that restored 400 hp in your maat battle?)
    harr!

I guess you're questioning what happened at 3:27 before I used convert. Well, that was Cure IV. Because Chainspell was activated and gear-swapping cancelled spell-casting motion, it looked as if I had used some sort of medicines. No, I promised not to use any of them. I only used Yagudo drink.

        yup, that seems about right.

i'm bringing vile elixer stuff as emergency tools. your method of attacking maat seems pretty standard - especially if you've ever fought aquarius.

we'll see how i do at 69. my enfeeble skill isn't maxed - i recently dinged 69 and haven't had a chance to cap it. hehe, guess i'll have to xp a bit more before maat... or will i?

If you really want to 'bumrush' then I would suggest using Vile Elixir and Vile Elixir+1. I used both with Aero IV spam in between (after dispelling Maat's Shell) and didn't even have to use convert to win on my first try.

I didn't find this hard at all, though I was nervous from reading many genkai 5 posts when I was getting my testimony.

          Good luck.

I had my first try a Maat a few days ago, and died horribly because I panicked, but it was great fun! My biggest problem now is actually getting a testimony; it's hard to find people to help, despite how important it is to me. ;; Also, I've since acquired a moldavite (finally) and will have the list of spells I need to use in front of me next time, so hopefully my nerves will stay in check. ) Good luck, enjoy it!

              Good luck bono!

From my experience, you should only need those vile elixers if your Sleeps are getting resisted.

There's really nothing else you can do if you're getting resisted except to chainspell and pump Aero IIIs into him and using vile elixer, vile elixer+1 to keep your HP/MP up. That's pretty much a guaranteed win.

My strategy worked fine until my chainspell phase... I used 2 Aero IIIs and Sleep II on him twice. Just according to plan. I took a few hits though as Sleep did not always succeed first try.

Then I planned to chainspell + Aero III him twice, Sleep II him with my remaining MP, Convert, Heal, Blink, Stoneskin, and AeroIII onslaught again.

However, he resisted 2 chainspelled Sleep IIs in a row and I was out of MP. At that point I was screwed. I just used the vile elixer+1 and continued the AeroIIIs until he gave up.

If only those Sleeps stuck on him, then I wouldn't have had to use the vile elixer+1... ; ; Oh well.
It's only 36k on my server, so it's not a huge loss.

bono, you may want to try this if you're close to LV70.

You know escort quest, right? For example, if you finish the one in San d'Oria, you get Miratete's Memoirs as a reward. It will give you about 800 - 1,400 XP when you use it.

Let's say you're 500 tnl. During Ma'at fight, you use it. Then you have your LV up immediately; your HP and MP should be fully recovered.

I tried Maat a couple times at 68 to try and learn about it, but ended up winning. Vile Elixir and Vile Elixir+1 make it easy, unless your elf or galka you probably won't need to convert. as soon as I went in I ran up to the field, Sleep II and thankfully it landed. dispelled until he had nothing, buffed up, yagudo drink, rested until he woke up. Hit chainspell, equipped water staff and pounded him with Water III, recasting stoneskin every now and then, vile elixir, continue pounding, vile elixir +1, and then more Water III. I think he gave up after 8 Water IIIs, none resisted. I got lucky on his chainspell, he only cast some debuffs, Blizzard II, Thunder II, then Aero III right as I killed him. First time I tried him he Chainspelled and proceded to cast Stone III, Water III, Aero III, Thunder II one after another...

apple pie! that's just downright mean! :spin:

i'm thinking more and more of the "throw gilz at it" scenario - basically, 2x vile elixer and 1 vile elixer +1. straight bum rush deal.

but i think i'm going to run in, check him out - if i don't see blink, sleep2 him right away. he resists, he gets the dispel->chainspell->stoneskin->blink->nuke nuke nuke vile nuke nuke vile nuke nuke and finally

                    DIE!

thanks for all your comments, guys! i'll let you know how it goes....

See... I'd never thought about this notion. Has anybody actually tried this?

I ask, because I wouldn't be surprised if they made this items non-usable during such a battle. Though I'd be interested in trying it. Could really save your hide, and at Lv.69 or Lv.70, losing all the EXP hurts!

Well, it seems to work according to this Japanese diary (DRG Ma'at fight) here written on June 9th. The author used Miratete's Memoirs during the battle and his LV went from 68 to 69 with his HP/MP fully recovered.

I didn't try this method by myself and I can't 100% guarantee it still works but it's worth trying

I don't know how much this will help you, but the way I beat maat was pretty straightforward.

All my friends had told me to do the sleep nuke black mage solo-ing style method so I tried that 3 times and failed each time (all on darksday).

The problem I saw (after the first 3 tries) wasn't landing the first 3 or 4 sleeps, but was repeatedly landing the next 2 or 3 sleeps after. I have the crappiest of equipment but I've never had the first few sleeps resisted even though I never used dark staff or any other elemental staff since i don't really own any (I used mythic wand exclusively all my tries) and I have the crappiest of rdm equipment of any rdm I know.

If you saw alphavision's video, his sleeps landed initially but then after a while a few got resisted. This is the part I found to be the 'omg panic' part of the process and the most likely spot for you to make a mistake. The first two times I didn't even get to convert because I couldn't land the 4th sleep I wanted to do before using some meds to bring back up my mp before I chainspell nuked. The third time I tried I rushed myself to chainspell and used all these meds and got nowhere because maat decided he'd like to resist my 5th or 6th sleep (can't remember) and chainspell aero III me numerous times.

The way I finally beat him was as follows:

                          1. Unequip all equipment. I heard maat copies all your stats when you enter. Even if it wasn't true, you never know if it is w.
                          2. Eat melon pie+1, enter BC (I found that since your max mp is lowered anyways when entering, it's still maxed inside).
                          3. Run right away to maat. While running I used 3 macros to equip all my equipment.
                          4. Get into the circle, stoneskin/blink, sleep II him
                          5. At this point I used a yagudo drink
                          6. bind (to see if he has shadows up), dispel, paralyze, dispel again if needed, slow, gravity (nothing was resisted, and since I was fast enough, I didn't have to dispel a second time since the first time had no effect).
                          6. At this point I used a hi-ether to get back some mp
                          7. aero III, sleep II, he should be on one end of the arena now since he ran to you. At this point, I think i was extremely lucky. He came to hit me halfway through casting my sleep II, but i blocked his attack with my shield and then he missed his next hit before I finished casting sleep II on him.
                          8. run to the far side of the arena, break out chainspell and aero III.
                          9. Another lucky part struck and he chainspelled but I was ready and sleep II'd him before he could get off more than 1 spell, since I had my chainspell on already. And then I ran away.
                          10. At this point my mp was at around 40 so I checked my blink/stoneskin (both were up wierdly enough) so I just converted, cure IV, cure IV
                          11. My chainspell wore off so I just started alternating nukes. Aero III, Water III, Aero III and he gave up (I still had a lot of mp left too).

I nuked him a total of 7 times I think for a total of around 2200 hp. Took 0 damage during the entire fight and didn't have to worry about sleeping him more than 3 times. I think the amount of damage you have to do to him changes as time progresses. If you take too long it seems you have to do upwards of 3000dmg but if you rush in and blast him away with aero III's right away you don't have to do as much.

The best part about it was I spent 5k gil on 1 hi-ether, 1 yagudo drink, 1 melon pie+1. Compared to a lot of other people I knew that spent over 1 million gil on 7+ tries.

The only equipment I swapped in and out was my spider torque, enhancing torque, black silk neckerchief, justice badge, devotee's mitts, and my rings. Your'e only lvl 69 right now though so you can't wear the ogre ledelsons I wore (I'm taru and needed the MND+3 it offered) but I don't think that makes a big difference since I only used regular eremite and saintly rings the entire time.

I took it sorta relaxed and didn't macro any of the meds i used (used ctrl+i to get into inventory to use each one). I took my time and tried to concentrate on making sure my stoneskin/blink didn't drop (which was lucky because they didn't at all). And it seemed a lot easier that way.

My friend tried 7 times to beat him and used the sleep nuke method, took too long on one or more times to beat him and he decided to use Asuran fists. So try to keep your pace up.

Also, an actually really useful piece of advice I got that helped me keep calm on my winning try was to turn off your music. I also unequipped my LS pearl since it tends to get chatty at times.

                          Good luck.
