  • Maintaining your convert ratio

Hi, I'm a tarutaru rdm and it's been 70 (almost 71) lvl's so far and I've finally managed to get my hp to be exactly equal to my mp when I sub blm.

Right now, I have exactly 841 hp and 841 mp when I eat an apple pie (I have stacks and stacks of apple pies from skilling cooking).

I haven't been able to spend much gil on equips, but i'm not using any hp->mp conversion gear. My equips look like this in party setups:

Mythic Wand, Hard shield, Phantom Tathlum
AF hat, spider torque, moldavite earring, enhancing earring
AF body, AF gloves, eremite or saintly rings
red cape (rainbow cape when I ding), Royal knight's belt
    AF pants and ogre ledelsons

Basically, I'm just wondering how other taru rdm's handle the equipment upgrades and their convert ratio post level 70, since things like Errant Cuffs have hp-20 mp+20. A lot of the gear looks good for the +INT and +MND attributes, but I'm not too sure how using them will affect performance since they'd be replacing my AF's which offer +enfeebling and such.

The problem I see right now, is if I change equips to things like errant cuffs, and lose 20 hp during battle, and then change equips right before convert, my hp won't be capped when I convert and I'll end up not maxing mp, which irks me because I have a cure III right after convert which eats up more of my precious mp.

Well.. honestly, I could care less about -HP +MP items, I just macro my equip to best maximize what I'm doing. As a Taru, I believe we get more leeway in doing that. On the otherhand, right now when I equip Zenith Mitts/Astral Aspis/Duelist's Tights/Errant Pigaches I'm around 795HP and 940MP.. so I'm in the process of getting a Bomb Queen Ring [Have items to pop him, just need to kill the NM], and a Bloodbead Ring [+50HP, -10HP rare/ex] and probably toss in a Pigeon Earring; which I'd use solely for converting just to get full MP on convert..

I used to hit an equip swap macro right before my convert/cure macro that would do HP -> MP so that when I finished converting I'd have an extra bit of mp to use for the cure, and then I could switch back. However, that was when I had more hp than mp and swapping in the equips would lower my max hp (leaving it still full) and raising my max mp and then fill it up with convert.

Now the problem is a bit reversed. If I have more mp than hp, even if I swap in equips to raise my hp before converting, I'd have to cure myself before converting anyways to fill me up to max hp, costing me another ~46 mp for a cure III, which requires another few seconds to cast and sorta defeats the purpose of saving the mp to begin with.

Just wondering if there's a solution I'm not seeing here.
Or am I doomed to use have expensive foods I definately can't afford, like Mushroom Risotto (hp+40, str-1, dex-1, vit+3, mnd+3) to try to compensate for my lack of HP.

I think you are worrying about a situation to a extreme point. You tried your best to make it perfect, that's all that matters.

I mean Convert still gives you a free 500+ mp every 10 minutes. This is why Whm and Blm would want to sub rdm if the lvl cap was raised to 80... They would have a worse ratio than you but still 500 free mp every 10 mins is alot.

You can get the rest back by either resting, Aspir, or having a whm heal/regen2 you.

I'd say stop worrying about something pretty inconsequential and start worrying a little more about your below-average equipment.

Get either +1 saintly/eremites or get the lvl 54 +3 int/mnd rings, for starters. Get the level 65 torques. I'd say the most neccessary one would definitely be the enfeebling torque, followed extremely closely by the dark, elemental and enhancing torques. Get some morion earrings at least, and maybe the wizard earring. Get the elemental staves. They help a lot more than a wand does in getting your spells to land unresisted.

As a Taru RDM your MP and HP are always going to be so close that it doesn't really matter a great deal one way or the other. I'm level 60 atm, and I equip my Star Necklace (-15hp +15mp) for a convert, and that's it. That brings my MP within 5 points of my HP. Take some pride in your gear! It'll save you a lot more MP in the long run than 20-40 MP you lose from a Convert.
