  • Wand or sword to solo?

I'm 7 RDM right now, a newb to the game for the most part. I'm still soloing levels and farming gil (not as a profession )until 10 or above. Currently I equip a bronze sword, but it seems magic is a lot more effective in destroying mobs. Would it be worth my time and hard earned gil to invest in a wand at this stage?

nope, stick with the sword for a while. go ahead and just keep lvl'ing up - during that time, you will figure out how to play. basically get to 10 (armor upgrade), then 17 (armor upgrade, spells between then, but 17 is the big armor upgrade), then 18 (finish your subjob quest), lvl your subjob (best subs are whm and blm), then get to 20 and head to jeuno for the chocobo quest.

that should be your basic path. grab as many spells as you can afford (the big ones being nukes, enfeebles, cures) and just lvl away. you'll learn as you go.

as you lvl, you'll find wands with stat bonuses. use them as you migrate to backline caster (won't be for a while - lvl 30ish).

Won't be much of a problem there! Thanks for the advice! RDM is a lot of fun.

I just hit level 20 a little while ago and I'm still using a sword. In this case, a Longsword +1. I have a Yew wand in case of partying opportunities, but when I'm soloing I always use a sword. Now that you're level seven, you might want to invest in a Xiphos for some extra damage, unless you're holding out for a Spatha. At level 14 I switched to a Bee Spatha +1 which held me over until 18. Whatever you decide on, good luck.

BTW, Malkieri, check your PM box. I wrote to you regarding that other issue in the BST forum.

Got my Xiphos and all of my leather last night. I feel special . By the time I got to head outside to slaughter some gobs, my time got cut short and I had to log. But I'll be back on tonight for hopefully a level or two, then I'm heading to Palborough for Mission 1-3. I'm feeling confident. :p

Keep your dagger leveled up as well it may be small but it does have usful weaponskills attached to it.

Yes, definatelly keep dagger leveled up, I really like using mine since Cyclone is a better 100% TP weapon skill then any sword WS I have. Plus with haste and enspell you do decent damage very fast.

Yeah level Dagger for cyclone, but unless you like sucky WS (unless its been improved in last 3 months) get the Sword Quest WS first e.e;;; Sword one isnt that great but its better then the Dagger one...

Eviseration for me seems to do considerable more dmg than savage blade. SA Eviseration does about 200-600 dmg on EP anticans. Savage does like 150-400. Vorpal is by far our most powerful usable WS, with the exception of sidewinder.
