  • Couple of questions...

1.) What are the best foods for RDMs?

2.) At what time should you get rid of your Bastokan Ring and get yourself another one?

3.) What's the best guild to join?

Thanks in advance. I've been wondering about these questions for awhile now.

    1) Pie for early levels, and +INT or +MP recovery in later levels, as far as my opinion goes

    2) Trade it for eremite's rings ASAP

    3) Any guild will do--players don't usually attack a guild service until they're got a reasonable investment to put into it. You'd probably find the most utility in cooking, however, so I'd suggest that first.

PS: what's your handle on Cerberus? :3

        1. I prefer to eat Pumpkin Pies or +1 if I have the gil. Regular ones are MP +40 INT +3 AGI -1 CHR -1 30min. Duration. The +1 ones are MP+45 INT+4 CHR -1 and they give +1 to healing MP while resting 1hr duration.

        2. Definitely get the Ermite's Rings as soon as you can use them. They will help your debuffs tremendously.

        3. Cooking would be the most beneficial because you can use alot of the food yourself. However, you may want to move to something else as more gil becomes available to you.

I have to disagree with the above posters slightly.

I would go with Saintly rings at early levels unless youre Elvaan. It's much more important to stick the MND-based debuffs than the INT based ones. If you sub WHM, its a no brainer- improve on your strengths with Saintly, if you sub BLM, maybe get one of each, or get 2 of each if you have the cash. (they are only about 2k each, so 8k gil for 4 rings is a darn good deal)

For food, I prefer to buy the regular pies than the WAY overpriced +1 versions. They are usually 4x as much, but you dont get 4x the benefit. You will be able to afford to always have food if you stick to the regular versions. You will be broke very quick if you go +1. Obviously later in the game when you are earning huge cash, it becomes easier to afford the higher priced food, but I still think its overpriced and I personally go with Pumpkin Pies or Melon Pies.

Join cooking, it's easy to level and you will be able to make your own juice and food before having access to refresh, or when leveling your subjobs.

Other than that, anything that interests you.

I have one Eremite Ring, so perhaps I'll get the Saintly Ring for a nice balance since I am planning on being a BM sub.

Another question. What earrings would be most beneficial to me as a RDM? There are a plethora of options, but I would appreciate specific rings that would raise the INT, MND, MP stats to make me more efficient.

For leveling your subjob, should I start leveling my sub when my main is Level 20 and then level my sub till 10 and then switch back? I have no idea how to train it. :dead:

Earrings aren't too great early game, but I vaguely remember a set that gave about +2MP per earring and +darkness resistance. I don't remember the name :'( they should be easy to find at the AH though. And they're pretty cheap, too. Once you've farmed your heart out, Morion Earrings are available at 30, they've got INT+1 and some MP+, but they're about 80k each, from what I remember definitely not a top priority if you're low on gil.

A good time to level SJ is as soon as you can break away from your EXP PT post 18. Get the SJ items as well as you can, then begin your sub. Some players equate player skill with SJ level, but honestly, I don't care myself until you reach level 30 and have access to Divine Seal/Elemental Seal. Regardless, it's probably a good choice to start leveling as soon as you're able. Level as much as possible, because you're probably not going to want to go back to the grind after you switch back to RDM.

I'm gonna be busy, busy, busy.

My character's name is Warrick, btw. I really, really am torn between being a WHM sub and a BM sub.

                "BM sub definitely."

"I always heard WHM sub was always the superior."

                Urrrrgh.

Is it worth it to do both? Will it be enjoyable or a pain? I always thought leveling up subjobs were extremely annoying or I could be wrong.

If I do decide to level both WHM and BM, which one should I level first? And to what levels?

Seems very complicated to level both. Leveling one seems dificult as it is.

So far I've gone strictly RDM/BLM for XP parties. I prefer to have the BLM Utility Spells over the WHM healing spells. Warp, Escape, Drain, Aspir, and Tractor are a few of the important ones to have. Plus, as a RDM, you already have all the WHM Debuff spells, Raise, Cure 1-4, Protect Spells, and Shell Spells. You do however lack Curaga the -na spells, and the banish set of spells. So ultimately it is determined on how you want to play. Some people may say that you're gimping yourself because you may not get invites because they'd prefer one sub to the other. This is a lie. I've never had any trouble getting a party because I didn't have WHM sub. Remember though, you're a RDM and your sub is just that. A Sub.

Well, I decided I would go the difficult route and level both WHM and BM subs. First, I will level WHM till about level 20 or so and then level my RDM till 40 and then start leveling my BM.

I'm pretty just an echo of what most every one has said so far.

1.) What are the best foods for RDMs?
Pies. I used Apple Pies until about 18 or so. At that point I had a decent gil pouch to dip into, and moved to Pumpkin Pies

2.) At what time should you get rid of your Bastokan Ring and get yourself another one?
Lv.10 Honestly the country rings shouldn't be worn past Lv.15 at the very latest. Grab yourself two Eremites and/or two Saintlies. The Saintlies will do you well for RDM and WHM work. Eremites for RDM and BLM. I had macros that switched them in and out when they were needed. But at the lowe levels, MND is more important.

3.) What's the best guild to join?
Any guild will do, but for a mage Cooking will most likely be your best bet. But this may completely depend upon what country you started in. Since you mentioned Bastokian Ring, that means you're in Bastok. So that's Alchemy, and Smithing to chose from. You can reach Lv.10 in any guild with out joining a guild, then you'll need to travel to join the guild needed to progress.

                          *Carrot Broth - Water Crystal + San d'Orian Carrots(x4) - Lv.3
                          *Orange Juice - Water Crystal + Saruta Oranges(x4) - Lv.10
*Sliced Sardines - Wind Crystal + Bastore Sardine - Lv.11

You can take those to Lv.10 before ever venturing to Windurst to join the guild and take your test. The Lv.# is what that item will cap your skill to. I made Carrot Broth to Lv.3, Orange Juice to Lv.6 or 7, and made Sardines to Lv.11. If you fish up the Sardines, these 10 levels are rather inexpensive.

Use cooking to make yourself food and pie, etc. But since you're in bastok, mine copper ores and make stacks of copper ingots for 3-3.6k a stack if you're low on gil.

Honestly. Buy 2 saintly rings, and 2 eremite rings. these lasted me until level 54 when I upgraded to Zircon and Aquamarine rings. Use /equip macros to switch between them depending on the spell you cast. Int for black magic, Mnd for white magic.
