  • RDM Race and Sub

Ok I was think about just lvn my ELvaan as a RDM/BLM I know that Ill need +MP items but i was wondering if I just needed to save myself the trouble and just go with my Newly made Hume. My elvaan has Kazham keys RSE keys and PLD main job but i was thinkin going into a mage job...WOuld my elvaan be good as a RDM?

Well, race does have a factor in how well you can play your job, but it's not the biggest. I don't see the problem of being an Elvaan RDM, there are lots of them. Most people think Taru Taru make the best RDM's cause of their convert ratio. But it's really up to you. Good equipment can take of your weaknesses.

race doesn't really effect red mages too much from what i've experienced. invest in +int and mp gear and you'll do just fine. while we're on the subject, what exactly is the convert ratio? never once have i been told anything about it ingame. i know it has something to do with hp to mp, but what is the point of it?

I enjoy being an Elvaan RDM!

Of course we don't have the mp pool that taru's get, but like it was said before, we can get equipment (especially the RSE) to help in that department. You'll also want some INT equips as well since our stat in that tends to be a bit low. Accuracy stuff is good too.

I generally have two sets of equipment for when I'm either farming or partying. Equipment swap macros are your friend.

As an elvaan rdm/blm, let me say its an excellent job. At the lower levels (pre-RSE) it is a challenge, and you might want to consider subbing whm for a while as you'll probably be called upon to be main healer until 30 or so. As long as you're willing to sink time and money into your gear, you'll find it a very rewarding job. The higher you go, the less race matters and the more it comes down to player skill. RDM is one of the most challenging jobs, but oh man I love it.

RSE does wonders, but dont plan on wearing that to 75.

Race makes more of a difference the higher you get too.

Yes, rse is good till 50, id say. Then get Tct coat and magic cruises
till you can start your af gear. But if your looking mainly for mp stay with the rse gear if your not much of a meele rdm.

Elvaan's RSE gloves and boots are best PT gears until you get RSE2 gears at LV62. You can skip RSE2 since they are expensive and stick to them till you get Errant gears at LV72.

if you choose taru you could sub white mage to offset the lower MND. i know alot of people think it's blasphemy to sub anything other than black mage, but you could use it to be a huge help to your party. you might want to consider what each race brings to the table in terms of stats rather than which looks cooler in AF.

/whm or /blm and you'll make everyone happy

taru rdm/whm? hehe, you're gonna put a few whm's out of job

although, as a taru rdm/blm myself.... well, just so you know, my nukes hit hard. i'm not going to outdamage a blm (duh), but my nukes don't get resisted (normally).

either /blm or /whm is grreat. have fun!

so far weaker nukes is the only thing i've noticed with white mage sub. my INT/MND is equal, and the status cures are a godsend especially when i party with an unobservant white mage. i used a stat calculator to see what my stats could be with black mage sub. i was offered 12 more mp and 4 more points of INT. not too appealing in my opinion.

BLM sub also gives Conserve MP, this functionly reduces 20% of your mp consumption over time. I believe you also get a clear mind upgrade at level 20 as rdm/blm as opposed to 30 as rdm/other.

what altruist said. also, drain/aspir + the elemental enfeeble line (they stick more then you realize) make /blm better then /whm. i don't think i can emphasis drain and aspir enough. they are very handy.

however, i'm going to say that either sub is both very good and very welcome to pt's. but if i had to pick a better sub, it would definitely, DEFINITELY be /blm. /whm would be 2nd best.
