  • Has anybody felt this way post 60?

Lately (past month actually) I just don't want to use my rdm at all anymore to xp. I'm pretty much lvl 68.9 and everytime I think about leveling my rdm...all I can think about is refreshing and hasting...and enfeebling non stop...over and over and over again for god knows how many hours Please tell me...does it get ANY different at all post lvl 70? I keep telling myself to level this job until 70 and beat the crap out of Maat and see where it'll take me...but I just can't ><

I tried xping ranger (after going bard which was boring...bst which became boring...then ranger which was awesome but really expensive) and I tell ya, it's a lot of fun in the frontline.

Are we still the refresh/dispel/haste bot even lvl 70? Or does the structure of the xp gameplay changes at all post 70?

Well I'm not a Rdm yet (I will be after lvling Drk), but really that is the life of Rdm. You also forgot about bursting/help nuke. Rdm are pretty decent in that area too.

Thing about Rdm is their ability to solo a lot of things alone, even if it takes a long time XD.

Just yesterday I saw a Rdm/Bst lvl 75 camping Amemet solo. the bst pet I think was so that the Rdm didnt get Petrified.

I played beta, and in beta I was a Whm till lvl 40, starting retail I played Whm till lvl 30. At that point I was so very bored with Whm. I didnt care if Whm had any new things in the future.. I just wanted to stop Whm. So I went Drk, and although Drk has been stressful at times, it still is very fun.. personally more than Whms. So sure Drk become Spinslash slaves later in the game. It still is fun being part of a renkei etc.

So I can generally understand how you feel from going Mage > Melee.

At the current momment I've really slowed down my Drk lvling as well. Now it's log in go kill an HNM log out. Even though I'm underlvled I like participating in HNM raids. My advice, play Rdm a bit more and try getting sky access and maybe fight gods if you can. I know not everyone can.. or will join HNM LS' etc or Sky only LS'. But just getting sky, and seeing Zilart cutscenes etc really helps when you're getting tired of playing either a certain job or the game in total.

If anything, it gets worse on the 70's. You're still the same Refresh/Enfeeble whore. Dispel and Haste will depend on whether you have a WHM or BRD in your PT. From 73 on, it becomes harder to find PTs and get good experience. There is a glut of 75s and areas are crowded.

During my 60's, I took time off to level BLM, and in my 70's, I leveled SMN.

I'm at 75, and I would rather get ro'maev water (40 exp a kill till it drops) than do exp PT anyday. The only way I'll do exp PT is if I can go out and have a good time, if I'm only refresh botting + enfeebles + haste, I won't go or look for a replacement.

If I could find a way to solo reasonable exp I would never do exp PT after a bad dynamis run. So if I do exp PT I usually go to have fun, not grind, I sub drk sometimes for fun, I participate in renkei's I do everything I never did as a good mage rdm. Find a group that let's you do that and rdm is worth playing in exp PT.

As far as hnm and rdm, well sometimes you get to kite or tank, but most of the time it's just you doing refresh and haste on 6 people while trying to see if any of your spells land.

I got bored with RDM last December too, though at an earlier stage compared to you (lv60). After I got full AF, I kind of lost any motivations to keep going. I didn't see any unique spells post-60 (ie. refresh or other enfeebles)... they are mostly level 3 elemental spells.

Then I remembered the JP taru monk that helped my static PT with all our papyrus. Loved how his Raging Fists shatter liches. Then while researching more about monks I bumped into videos of Dragon Kick and Asuran Fists. That sealed the deal. {See you again!}, {Red Mage}.

Anyways, do try playing melee. It's a refreshing change. I still level my rdm once in awhile too (when I can't get PTs as monk lol). That, or do missions; they're fun. My LS just finished Bastok rank 10 and Zilart's Tu'Lia. We're switching over to Sando to do their missions soon. Take a break from FFXI's exp grind occasionally. Have fun~

This is why I quit exping RDM. Made me want to claw my eyes out. It CAN be more fun than just basically being a human bot but that requires parties like NIN/WAR, THF/NIN, RNG/NIN, BRD, BLM, then you. When your party is PLD, DRK, WAR, WHM, BLM, you then exping becomes roughly as fun as smashing your elbow in a vice. So get a static like the former or end up in pickups like the latter and enjoy pushing the same macros at the same exact times on a three minute cycle for eleven hours to get a level so you can do more of the same with slightly better stats. For other RDMs that made it over the mountain and actually got 75, you are far more resilient than I am. /salute I'd bother with G5 and than something like 200k more exp of the same if the thought didn't make me wretch.

I think the key is a static that's fun. So get one of those if you can. I've never had one as RDM, oddly, though on other jobs I've had great ones. Meh.

Edit - oh also for the poster right before me, I'd recommend Windy missions before Sandy ones as they're actually interesting and even sometimes a hint of challenging. Sandy story is very blah and parties with half their members asleep could complete all the missions. Windy has the hardest missions and the best story IMO.

I felt this way at 61 (which is were I am now) and don't wanna level RDM anymore, right now I'm @5000 to 62, and I am tired of it. Maybe it was because 61 took me forever due to crap parties, that wore me out. Right now I'm leveling my monk and hope to take it all the way to 75 within the next year maybe? (probably not XD) Anyways, if you're not having fun, then don't do it.

Give me a medal for perseverence or stupidity. RDM has been my main job since the first Japanese PS2 launch. I suffered through pre-Refresh and Convert days of no PT invites, and am now @8500 to 75. Damn, it's been a loooong road.

All jobs are repetitive and mind numbing past a certain point. Sad but true.

Count me in of semi-quitting Rdm because it gets repetitive. My case was really, its very very tiresome. Cure, Haste, Refresh, debuff, and status cure was always my role. 80% of the time I am asked to sub a whm and be main healer. I end up exausted every time after an exp party. I am 72 with 1500 exp. So 75 is still a long road to me.

During lvl 70, I leveled my rdm to 71 then started playing monk till 74. Now I played my rdm a bit more till 72 for errant but I really got tired of it. So I am now playing blm.

Bad thing about rdm, if you do not do the usual cookie cutter roles, the party will be shattered in performance. And I don't want to ruin 5 other people's fun time just because I wanted to do something new, or being lazy and dropping debuff here and there...

                      ah yes, the rdm burnout.

i've sort of hit it, but our entire static needed a break anyway. been lvl'ing ninja for going rdm/nin.

basically, the one thing you need to keep in mind is, once you crack the 70's - hell, maybe even now - you can do some unreal soloing. and hell, even duo'ing. duo with a paladin or ninja and enjoy rdm as you've always wanted to. its wild. not only that, but you can cap all those skills you've wanted to use. also realize, you can get evisceration AND savage blade at 71-72.

although i wish square had given us a B skill in club. would have been cool.

anyway, its obvious you're not alone. hope this helps. just mix in some solo/duo/trio stuff between the xp sessions. xp sprinting too much will burn you out, especially at post 65.
                      harr!

I have been taking a lot of breaks from leveling RDM too. I decided to try to raise as many craftskills to 60 with the time set aside. I have two crafts at 60 and various levels in others.

Yes, leveling RDM is boring at times, but if you mix it up by doing something else inbetween you can get over it.

I've taken quite a few breaks from leveling RDM. Although, I am level 60, I haven't really hit that burnout stage yet. Of course once I need 30k exp to level up, it could hit me very quick, lol.

I have tried leveling BST, DRK, NIN, RNG, and some other jobs, as well as crafting and fishing to break the monotony. In fact now that I've reached 60 and have full AF (a chore in itself) I plan to take a lengthy break to level subjobs and get some equipment I want. (moldavite 0/4 so far... )

One thing that drives me nuts is that you basically need WAR to at least 15 so you can get other jobs like NIN, DRK, DRG, etc to level 30 because war is the only sub that is accepted as valid... I leveled my whm to 18 last night so it could be my blm sub all the way to 37, and blm can be sub to 75 rdm ^^

I plan on taking THF up to 50 or so, and for that I need to level NIN as sub (my preference) to 25, and for that, I need WAR to 12 lol... neverending cycle....

Once I hit LV70 I will probably take a huge ass break from RDM and start leveling DRK...my 2nd dream job...maybe Samurai too..

Hehe, I just realized I was in a party with your NIN, my MNK in valkurm like an hour ago XD. It was the best valk party I've had in a while. We were even talking bout how we lost interest in RDM, coincidence?
