Ok, so I've made it up to 42, and I'm still wearing my full RSE. I figured all the INT and MP bonuses they provided would keep me well for a while. What are some reasonable upgrades (by reasonable, I mean something that's not 600k, like Brigandine Armor +1) for an Elvaan RDM around this level? Or should I just stick out the RSE for a while longer?

I'm similar level to you, and you can check out the myriad of equipment I put to use in the links that are under Modes in my signature.
You may consider astral or electrum rings if you are more concerned about MP than INT/MND.
At 43 a Red Cape (preferrably +1) is a really big thing for a RDM to get. I have my +1 set aside, along with a Valkyrie's Mask for level 43.
Personally my gear plan up until AF1 is to to use what I have down in my sig, switch in red cape +1 and valkyrie's mask at 43, switch in brigandine (Maybe +1) at 45, switch in magic cuisses, rose wand+1s and knight sword+1s at 48. Oh and temple knight army belt, or the ocean stone (hume only) at 50.
Many RDMs go with the Crimson Blade at 49 due to the +INT and the +MP, however I use wands to supplement my casting, so I'm not giving it a second look.
Of course I play a quality over quantity style RDM, landing my debuffs with <1% resist rate and having them kick in as effectively as possible, as opposed to a typical RDM. By 50 I should be at +29-32 +MND/+INT.
That may not be your style, but those are some of the big items to look for in my opinion.Ruic the Red - Retired

If you can't afford Brigandine+1, which you probably can't with your first job at lvl45, Tct. Mgc. Coat will give you the same INT/MND+1 that it will at lvl50.
I used Crimson Blade for a few levels, but decided to change to a T.K. Army Sword and Rose Wand+1 because Crimson Blade was basically just an inferior sword and wand combined, and cost as much as the two put together.
If you can afford Astrals at lvl10, it would probably be useful for an elvaan.
As a side story, I did PT with a rather silly Taru SMN wearing Astrals at lvl15, yielding him 84HP. One overcure and a single swipe from a Clipper one-shotted him and he got mad about it. He also never got below 150MP, no matter how much he was spamming cures or using avatars to fight, so it was more to show off than anything else. Regardless, if I were Elvaan or Galka, I'd use as much MP boosting equipment as I could find. There will be cake.

I wouldn't call wearing Astral Rings, "Showing off". If you can afford them, get them. I suggest this only if you are working on a second job thou and it actually useful to you. Don't just blow the cast cause they are "astrals".Originally posted by Patchinko

It damn well is showing off when you're a Taru who has absolutely no use for them. Bling bling, anyone?
I'd have been far more impressed if he had dual sets of Eremite's+1s and Saintly+1s that he switched out accordingly.
There will be cake.
