Dia vs. Dia II, when is it worth it?

Hi all,

I've had Dia II for a while now, (got it at level 31, now I'm level 38) but I've been shying away from using it over Dia I. Mostly its because of the MP cost compared to Dia I, and that I'm an Elvaan, so I have to manage my MP a bit more carefully at this level, especially if we're going for Exp chains.

My questions are, what is the 'defense down' difference between Dia I and Dia II, and at what levels does Dia II become the norm over Dia I?

Dia I gives -5% defense, and Dia II gives -10% defense. Generally, I see more whm's using it than rdm's, as rdm's need to be more careful with their MP consumption. Were I you, I'd probably try to save it for the chain 4 and 5 (or whichever are the last 2 mobs in your chaining) to use Dia II to make them that much faster. I wouldn't imagine it making that much of a difference though.

I prefer a BLM casting Bio II over dia II. I dunno why. Just do. BLM needs stuff to do in the beginning of a battle anyways.

I usually ask the WHM to cast Dia II as it's 59MP, but I have the spell learned just in case the future parties I'm in don't have a WHM ; ;

Best used on monsters who have a naturally high defense, such as crabs (beetles too?).
