  • <I'm Sorry> <Please Forgive me>

    Hi guys

I've recently done a terrible thing. I don't want pity or anything, but I do feel I should be the one to tell people about this because I was the one that did wrong. I know I'm guilty.

On June 19, 2004 starting from 12 PM I went to Labyrinth of Onzozo to camp this NM goblin , Mysticmaker Protblix , that drops the earring Moldative Earring ( +5 to Magic Attack). Thru all the competition I had gotten it one single time, but it did not drop the earring I wanted. So I keep on camping him and still lose him thru all the competition. My LS heard and 2 members , a WHM and another RDM, decide to help me out. So they came. With their help we lost Mysticmaker Protblix again and decided to try hard the next time around. It is now 2 AM on June 20, 2004 and somewhere around this time he popped. The other RDM cast Dia and a BLM cast Stun, we lose him again. But somewhere in the fight Mysticmaker Protblix became unclaimed and the WHM ( subbing WAR ) used Provoke on him and I used Dia (I'm not sure which one hit first). We got back and killed him then RDM casted Escape after everyone was done lotting. This is when the guilt hit me. It felt wrong to steal it out of their hands just because it became uncalimed somewhere in their fight. I went back in and I didn't know if they were Japanese or English so I just used the auto-translator and said "<I'm Sorry>" followed by a /bow. Their WHM said "<Leave>" and I went to bed with a guilty concinsios.

So that's basically what happened. I may have missed a few detials but that's the turth and now I feel miserable about it.

{EDIT} I did a few corrections to spelling and grammer

I think it's crap how you can lose NM so easily in this game. But lets just say they were JP, just for arguement's sake...They have better latency, they'll have 37430897320985720 more wins in the grab in all close quater NMs. Ever see something you were hunting for hours pop purple with the other player already engaged in combat? Ya...

This will attract a possible flame but I've noticed most JP say <leave> simply because some can't type with us, while most NA actually type a full sentence, that's where I came up with the above assumation, but maybe you're different so don't get all defensive about that please. Who knows, maybe"What comes around goes around" is actually in the other way because JP are winning claims so much due to latency differences(They're large enough to have their voke "IF" they continue to hit a voke macro win 10/10 times). Maybe this was just a NA's big break finally with a NM.

Maybe it's the other way around...Maybe it's fate's way or whatever you would like to call it, of making something even, because we would never outvoke a JP sitting there spamming a target and voke macro, or voke bot. Even if we did the same exact thing, due to the extra time it takes information to reach us NA we only lose claims if they're spamming voke. It really does make that big a difference when you're both spamming voke 3-4 times a second. If you outvoked a close quarter mob and you knew the competion was JP, he either wasn't spamming voke/dia, or was eating nachos or watching TV without a voke bot(half a sec or so, even that is huge). Also 2am est, that's when you start seeing JP in larger numbers.

Well, regardless of whatever advantage being closer to the server might give, or any other reasons of perceived unfairness in NM hunting... there's certain unspoken rules that's generally followed on all the servers. And obviously, Zempten is aware of them or else he would not have written this post.

Were you wrong in taking the NM from the other guy when it went unclaimed? Probably so. I'm sure you've thought about this already, but place yourself in the other guy's position.

So what can you do about it now? Well, I think it's good that you at least apologized to the guy. Shows that you have a conscience ^^ And even though he told you off, I'm sure he feels a little less mad than if you would've just ran off without saying anything. Not much else you can do at this point though...

One word of caution though. People have long memories, especially with regards to times when they get screwed over by someone else. A friend of mine was apparently involved in an MPK incident in like Februrary 2003. The guys who were MPK'd still refuses to PT or talk to my friend to this day. It may surprise you how long those you've wronged will remember your name...

If this whole thing is still really bothering you, I suppose you can try contacting the other guy again and either try apologizing again or offer to split any drop with him. He might prove to be a little more communicative after a night's sleep~

          Good luck,
          Nassa

Well I know latency issues all too well, I always see a HNM my LS is hunting pop purple JPN PLD out pulled a NA provoker with Flash. A bit unfair seeing as JPN do have a great advantage over NA because of this. Though before you attempt/steal a NM put yourself in the person shoes, how would you like it if someone took a NM from you even if you did have an edge on it? So think about what you do before you do it even if you are frustrated >< believe me I was tempted to take things that turned white in battle but didn't because I don't like trouble

Those JP(again assuming they were) probably got the NM the next spawn though, I'm sure as hell no NA got it off the pop first before them. If you're really feeling guilty send the guy the gil in delivery.

But if you're on bad terms with him, there is a 75% chance or so you already were because you're NA. Not all but a good deal are anti NA or simply won't party with NA because they like to socialize and can't speak english. Just look at JP xp message to see what I mean, "JP ONLY" for whatever reason 75% of the time.

The only exception is if you're one of "Those" jobs normally hard to find.

My point: The guy/girl wouldn't have even wanted to talk to you anyway possibilely. And I also find 9/10 of the jerks you can meet in this game are found shouting in starting cities or NM hunting(although not NM this includes rams too).

I pretty much avoid NMs for this reason, it's a non-required pain in the ass thing in which you just make enemies, never friends. This goes for both nationalities of course, both ways.

If there was one thing I could do to alter the way NMs work, it would be have all NM spawn anywhere on the whole world map for their level range, except triggered NMs. So latency would be a non issue and you wouldn't get people camping them all day long just making more enemies.

Ok, I have a somewhat guilty situation I want to confess too, although it's certainly not as obvious as Zempten, I still feel a bit guilty.

I was farming in Quifim, and I was heading to tower to kill some giants when I see Trickster Kinetex (name was purple, maybe 1/4 of its life gone) and it seemed to be chasing someone, but I didnt see who. I watched for about 2 secs, then it turned white, so I was thinking here's a chace to claim an NM, and save someones ass at the same time.

I know from experience that a level 30 would have a hard time with a dancing weapon, and trickster is a lot harder than them. That being said, after I pull it with dia and start attacking, I see someone stand there watching me. Right away I was like, oh god, I just stole this didnt I? Anyway, I finished it off pretty quickly and got the drop (only a 7k axe, nothing special) And I sent a /tell to the guy watching "were you fighting that?" he says "ya", then I respond, "sorry, I thought you were in trouble". He didnt respond, so guess he couldnt have been too pissed off. I had debated sending him the axe, or half the gil for what it sold for, but I didn't. Anyway, turned out this guy was a BST, and I really dont' know how BST works so I have to plead ignorance a little bit, but I do know from doing a search that he was only a 31 BST, and I figured Trickster probably would have handed his ass to him anyway. One failed charm and he was toast.

I felt guilty a little bit, but not as much as Zempten seems to. Is that wrong? Given the circumstances, I don't feel I was wrong, but at the same time, SQ-ENIX really has to redesign the system, as it sucks balls right now. No monster should be claimable when someone else is fighting it under any circumstances....

Sorry for the thread hijack BTW...

if its all said and done just realize that its over...theyre obviously JP so..chances of u every pting with them before hand were probably slim anyways. so yeah i can see why you feel bad but then also realize how other threads talk about this stuff happening but some JP r doing it. so id let it slip out of my mind. forget what happened and move on because its too late obviously. by no means is it fair though, im not saying id do it the first chance i get im just sayin thats what route u chose to take and now u regret it. just realize that ur reputation probably isnt going to plumet any since they were JP (assuming <Leave> was from a JP) and since at high lvls JP dont want to pt with NA (from what i read on this site anyways). let it go and continue on. apologize or send gil if u have to, but be happy.

i know this might be all ran together but maybe ull realize my point
                      well...blow me down

Profblix isn't a HNM, so the "rules of engagement" don't hold. It isn't like they had to wait 24-72 hours for him to spawn again or that they lost out on an expensive item.

Like others said, you can look at it as evening out the latency advantage they have (and it is real, as anyone with a S150 can tell you ~.~).

using latency issues as an excuse to steal a claimed mob is lame. (btw, i've had the mob pop red before, ie, my NA teammate got it before it even spawned on my screen, and he lives in oklahoma, not tokyo).

Anyway, stealing the mob was just flat out wrong. You should feel guilty, but there's nothing to be done about it now. If someone did that to you, you'd probably be screaming and pissing and calling GM's and what not, so it's obviously not exactly the nice thing to do.

People anywhere can have a latency advantage over you if your connection isn't great.

Um i actualyl have to disagree with this >.> <.<

I've made 2 friends while NM hunting. Once while hunting the Monster signa, me and a taru girl were just talkin and telling each other we prolly wont get it and well....we were right because we were both typing when he spawned heh...

another time was hunting Bomb King (woohoo...its an easy hunt...i needed a quick 12k) some mithra ran in. We sat there and talked and i check wide scan, and there he was, i told her he spawned and she laughed and told me i could have him since i saw him 1st. So, this proves there can be nice NM hunters ^^.

Dont feel bad "mr tsukasa for avatar man", i bet those japanese people were rich already...
