  • Just bought Magic Cuisses...

Wow, what amazing leg armor. Can anyone tell me why it only cost 20k?

Its Scale type armor, so WHM/BLM can't use, just RDM, but still... 26 defence, which is higher than most level 48 leg armor. Also +3 MND, +3 INT...

Why would any RDM 48 ~NOT~ use this until AF? I had to triple check it's stats to make sure I wasnt paying 20k for crap...

Do most RDM use this armor, or do most use something else? 20k seems like a damn bargain. I was only using Taru RSE which was not really helping me in exp party situations.

With all my equips before food now, my INT and MND bonuses are quite impressive (to me at least). If I was more wealthy, I would invest in HQ items to further boost it.

    Rose Wand +1 = +6 INT, +6 MND
Tactician Mag. Coat = +1 INT, +1 MND
    Promise Badge = +5 MND
    Red Cape = +2 INT, +2 MND
Merc. Captains belt = +1 INT, +1 MND
    Magic Cuisses = +3 INT, +3 MND
    Erimites Ring = +2 INT
    Saintly Ring = +2 MND
    ----------------------------------
    Total = +15 INT, +21 MND

The jobe restrictions are pretty harsh most casters cant use them but RDM. Thats the main reason. Also its the common drop from King Arthur, who well letz just say he dies when he spawns.

I preferred Hume RSE Pants. Hell, I still put them on sometimes. At those levels, I'd take the free +32 MP and +3 Mnd over the 20k +4 Int +4 Mnd.

I'm a Taru.... The only magical bonus to my RSE pants was +1 MND, far overshadowed by +3 MND, plus the +3 INT. Also, 26 Def compared to 12 for my RSE. The decision isnt even close.

However, I will still carry my Taru RSE leg armor for farming, as the +1 STR, +2 VIT, and 22 HP are useful.

If it's a common drop, did I pay too much? The history ranged from 25k-20k, so I got the lower price. I will only be wearing them for what 6 levels? But I can always sell them back when I get my AF pants.

It's 10k on Bismarck, and I didn't use them because I'm a hume and I'd rather get 32mp from RSE pants. Now I just leave AF pants on, because I'm lazy and already have too many swap macros and don't care about another one for just more MP when I do fine with the MP I have. I may change my mind if I ever scratch together money for Marine Gloves, since at that point 35mp+32mp will be tastier than just 32mp. ^^ However that's 500k and I also want a Light Staff. Drop your freaking shield Steelfleece, thanks bye.

I used macros and used them as a hume, I still macro the same way between RSE and errant, since errant gives no MP with the pants.

I wore the hume RSE pants for ages, but I started wearing these for a while before I got my AF because the defense is insane (and because I was already decked out in pretty decent +MP stuff anyway). An excellent addition to any RDM wardrobe.

yeah i was like the only person wearing them when i got them for my drk and wondered why. +3 int is nothing to ignore..

Although why did they HAVE to look exactly like noob scale armor.... I took them off in towns lol

Well in my case, I bought mine way back when for 10k also on Asura, but I mostly used them for farming purposes. The +32MP from Hume RSE pants is very hard to pass up until you get your AF legs, and it also has +3 MND as well. The only thing I was really losing out on is the +3 INT which in my case I didn't mind too much. When you are in an exp party you shouldn't really be getting hit at all anyways, so while the defense is nice it's really only a very minor consideration.

I had these from 48 to 55... At they time they cost 22,000 on Midgardsormr -.-

By far the best RDM and DRK pants in those levels.

8k on Carbuncle, but Carb has low prices in general (phalanx is down to 100k now, I'm going to have to pick it up soon; dark and ice staves are both around 250k but they've been going down for a while.)

+3 INT +3 MND is great. I used to wear RSE pants in parties for +32 MP and +1 MND, but now I don't even carry them. If I had Convert macroed I might add them, but I have no room in macros for Convert and I can't add equip swapping to a macro that doesn't exist.

That's what I don't understand about people who say they have equip swapping macroed into every spell: do you really only cast 20 different spells in a party? Or less, if you have an MP notify or any JA's macroed? I have off the top of my head: paralyze, slow, dia2, silence, refresh, regen, cure 2,3,4, chainspell; blind, poison2, bio2, gravity, dispel, sleep2, shock, choke, MP notify, elemental seal. That's a full bar and it would still be good to squeeze in at least burn and haste (probably I'll ditch cure2 for haste, it's too small anymore, and start using elemental seal through ctrl-J to free up a slot for burn); and if you want to get good mileage out of the equip swapping thing you need at least a couple nukes and possibly drain and aspir too. Oh, and then people who want to swap in dark staves to rest have to macro that too. Or can you ctrl-H, then go into equipment and equip the dark staff manually before the first tick of healing and it will still work?

But back to the topic: In general I don't put much stock in +MP items post-41. Higher max MP will only give you more MP every 10 minutes (most of your MP comes from Refresh, unless you get to rest, which also isn't influenced by MP gear); lower resist rates will give you more MP all the time by reducing the number of spells you need to recast. And INT will strengthen your magic bursts, too.

Sure, if there's a slot you can't get a useful amount of INT or MND out of, use it for MP; head comes to mind (before the AF hat, of course). I wear RSE gloves for +16 MP and +2 MND, too, and I'm planning to get inferno sabots which are usually just +MP. But rings, and post-48, pants, are too valuable slots to be wasted on MP gear when there is INT and MND to be had. Similarly, I'd much rather have my tactician magician's coat for +1 INT and MND than my old royal squire's robe for +10 MP.

Defense can't always be ignored, either. When you start doing papyrus in Eldieme Necropolis you will find that there is nowhere to hide from the liches' AE special attacks like black cloud and blood saber (trying to get further away will get you spotted by other undead which will add and you'll be in even more trouble). Stoneskin will help up to a point, but it wastes too much time to recast it mid-battle - and how long it lasts depends on your defense.

Worse, adds are common and undead resist sleep strongly - and a resisted sleep still gets a ton of hate. So you can expect to be tanking that hound until someone who can pull it off you notices.

I'm still using the Magic Cuisses at 58...sometimes I get resisted a bit by the targets we're fighting, and the boost to int is helpful. So far I boost my int and mnd by a ton, as well as eat melon pies for more int. This keeps my debuffs sticking, and since the whm is doing all the buffs I don't need to worry about the +enhancing from my af pants. However, I've also got the boost from my AF body to enfeebling, so that makes a difference too.

I'd pick 'em up though, there will be a lot of times that they will come in handy.
