RDM Spells early on

  • RDM Spells early on

    Hi everyone. new to the forums.

    I just recently got FFXI (PS2 US version) and started out as a Galka Monk. I love that race/job, but my friend just also recently got the game and I wanted to start over as a magic caster and a Hume (so I would be able to try many jobs without too much trouble).

    So I decided on RDM. I'm level 5 right now and have a question about spells. Which ones should I buy (I'm looking as far as level 20 right now)? Currently I have:
    - Dia
    - Cure
    - Stone
    - Poison
    - Paralyze (For level 6)
    - Protect (For level 7)
    - Blind (For level 8)
    - Bind (For level 11)

    Right now the only spells I use are Dia (cast it right away, to start a fight), and Cure (self explanatory). I'll use Stone and Poison sometimes, but only if I know they will help.

    I know spells are expensive so I wanted to ask some experts on which ones I should definitely purchase.

    As far as sub jobs go, I'm pretty sure I wanna go BLM, if that's something you'd need to know.

    Cure2 - lvl 14
    Slow - lvl 13
    Silence - lvl 18
    Water - lvl 9
    Aero - lvl 14
    Fire - lvl 19
    If you get to lvl 21 get regen and gravity

    Cure2 slow and silence are really good. Cure2 to save a life. In many battles a rdm or whm will slow,paraylze,blind to save mp for cures.

    Elementals spells are also useful, you'll be subbing blm anyways.

      Low level spells are epxensive O.o ? IMO, buy all the low level spells for RDM. RDMs should always get their spells ASAP...xept spells that costs too much to cast and doesn't give too much benefits early on (i.e. Dia II, Poison II (ignore this one...pls) and Bio II).

      I haven't really bought all the en-spell lines (ooh elemental weapon tha an enemy is weak against only does 2-5 more damage...craptacular) and I haven't really paid much attention to bar -elemental series either. Although, try to buy all the bar-status spells. It really shortens the length of those status spells.

        If you're having money troubles, try to buy all the regular spells, especially the enfeebling and elemental, first. Then worry about important bar spells (chiefly Barsleep and Barfire... things like Baraero and Barpoison aren't nearly as useful at your stage). The En- and Bar- spells are more of a luxury in early stages. WHM should be covering the Bar spells anyhow (though in leveling a few new jobs, I've found none of the new WHM have any of them, including Barfira or Barsleepra in the jungles -.-)
