  • INT and MND vs MP

I'm kind of stuck between these for my head gear and my rings. Currently I'm using Traveler's Hat and Saintly Rings when casting MND-based enfeelbes, and Bastokian Cap and Eremite's Rings when casting INT-based. Is the loss of MND and INT worth the MP gained from hairpins and Astral Rings?

There also comes in the problem of melee. In order to actually hit the mob, I also need +DEX and +ACC equipment. Head and Rings are ones of these pieces of equipment. (And yes, I do realize that a RDM is a mage first. I'd still like to fight after I enfeeble to help make the fight end fast, but it'd be quite hard of it's wiff wiff wiff...).

Any suggestions from you high leveled/high knolwedge Red Mages would be very appreciated. I'm 18 ATM with +16 MND and +8 INT if it matters.

And sorry if this topic has been beaten down to death, but I wasn't sure how to search this when everybody uses abbr. words.

I'm not a "high" level RDM, but all my equips are mainly geared towards Mage functions. You should never sacrifice MP and or INT/MND for +acc/str/dex equips. If you do want to melee after spell casting, I suggest taking 2 sets of gear and making equipment changing macros. I'm not going to melee with my wand, so I have a macro set to change to my Fencing Degen after I'm finished casting.

As for your question of MP vs INT/MND, for anything but a Taru, MP is always going to be important, but you may want to balance all 3 among your equips. Red Cape (lvl 43) is a great item since it gives +INT and MND, as well as any Club which gives bonus to INT and MND.

If you want to spend the gil, you can find MND or INT up stats on almost any equips. I recommend a hairpin though at level 40, as there is really nothing else to go on your head that is as useful as that. I don't find I need the extra mp at this point (lvl 44) because as it is I have more than I need with Refresh/Convert... I almost never sit to rest unless I know I have time to. (621 HP, 482 MP)

Yes, I have two different equip for INT and MND that I change with a macro  I'm at the "worm" level right now where we just run around and nuke worms so not much meleeing yet, but when I get to the level where we fight normal mobs I'd like to get a melee set also.

Once I hit 20 and get silver hairpin (copper hairpin is deffiantly not worth the small mp), it's 5 INT and 5 MND vs 65 MP. With 65 MP I can get more spells off (IF they land) but with 5 INT/MND I land more debuffs, cure for more, and do more elmental damage.

at early lvls, don't even worry about it, just get as much MP as you can especially since you're a hume.

I don't think it really matters at low level...actually balance MND stats and mp since most of the time you'll get invites in party specifically for healing. What i do sometimes (that's SOMETIMES when i'm not too lazy and my party is actually good) is switch back and forth mp based items to stat based items when my mp reaches the point where I'm close to my base mp, then switch back when it's time for convert.

In an xp pt prior to 50...I think you can sacrfice those stats for more mp...but after 50 and before u get ur AF set (particularly hat and body), you really need to start thinking about switching equipments to land those nuke/enfeebles.

Just wanted to point out something...my lv32 whm has ~409 mp or more...how is it that you only have 482? Most taru rdm's I know have almost the exact same MP as they have HP...one of the major reasons to play a taru rdm in the first place...

Actually, I have about 100MP more than my HP at lvl51. That's mostly due to MP+/HP- gear. It should even out a little more at 54 when I trade in my electrum rings for MND+/INT+ rings and even more at 60 when I get rid of my gold hairpin.

So yes, I'd think a Taru RDM would have at least equal MP to HP, if not more MP than HP.
                There will be cake.

You should probably use less HP->MP equipment then. You are losing efficiency of convert if your MP is bigger than HP

                      um, sorta.

i think the best situation you can have is hp=mp. once they are very close, you want to focus soley on jacking up your mind stats.

after all, you are a taru (low mnd, high int).

my gear is focused 100% on mnd. before my food and a wand, i have about +18 mnd (AF, Promise Badge, two aquamarine rings). with my rose wand +1, that's up to +24.

and mnd is very important - slow and paralyze are very critical spells.

so, i think its better to worry about stat boosting if you're close to 1:1 convert ratio. but that's my $.02.

I dunno... ask the game designers. I have +HP gear on, so that may make a difference in the ratio. Brigadine +10hp, Taru Legs, Feet, Hands RSE +HP. Also, I don't remember what level I was when I posted that but I'm thinking around 45. Now I'm 48, and with an electrum hairpin, my MP is 538 I believe and my HP is 632. So far I havent needed tons of HP<>MP equips. I have plenty of MP with refresh, and convert. I don't care if I lose out on 100 mp on a convert. By the time I run out of MP, my convert will be ready again anyway.

This is all ~so far~ up until level 48. In fact the only reason I bought the electrum hairpin was for doing BCNM 40, but now that I've used it, I will continue to use it in a PT. I'll use other head gear for solo.

409 MP at level 32? The max with BLM subbed is 382. Mind telling me how you did that? You also forget that WHM and BLM get a much bigger MP bonus than RDM do. Level 48 RDM/BLM 513 mp, level 48 WHM/BLM 562 MP...quite a difference.

In my most recent PT, using Apple Pie and Electrum Hairpin, my MP was about 563... better?
