  • Deodorize, ummm...

So I've had this spell for as long as I can remember, yet, I can't ever remember actually ever using it except for the hell of it.

What is Deoderize used for anyway?

Wow, people still are that misinformed about what deodorize is for?

      Well..

Once you are being attacked by an active monster, or have picked a fight with something that you later discover you should NOT have picked a fight with, you disengage fighting and sleep it or bind it and try to run away. Of course, as we all know, sleep or bind will eventually wear off and it will come looking for you. What you do is, put a little distance between yourself and the bound/slept monster, then use deodorize. It will no longer be able to locate you. I have only found maybe 2-3 occassions where this has ever come in useful, but it's good to know when one of those occassions DOES crop up.

Not to mention the horror in a nasty place like Necropolis when something brings your HP down to low levels, and undead from miles away come to greet you. Deodorize stops them from smelling blood (so I've heard)

I also vaguely remember some pugil type mobs that aggro on smell. Though I cannot tell you where I incountered them.:spin:

I have yet to see any mob in this game actully aggro based on smell. Deodorize is just good for covering up your tracks.

All Monsters of the Same Graphic aggro the same way, sight or sneak.

The only differnces I have personally seen are that some may be naturally aggro while some may not be.

                For example,
Pugil in Valkrum Dunes and Pugil in Cape Terrigan.

Just walking by a Pugil in Cape Terrigan will get you aggro, while the same does not apply to pugil VD~.

Another example, (ill use pugils again) are some will link and some wont
                Take for example,
Pugil in Valkrum Dunes and Pugil in Qufim

The pugils in Qufim will link toghter while the ones in Qufim wont.

Final example, Some monsters of the same type in the same zone are aggro while others arnt.

This example isnt that important for most people as I have only seen this occur in Ru'Aun Gardens. The Doll's that are tucked into a socket in the wall are aggro by sight, while you can walk up to, poke, slap the ones that are moving around and they wont aggro you at all... unless you cast magic near them =x.

Can anyone confirm whether deodorize hides your low HP? Undead come to you from far away if your hp is low, but will deodorize stop this?

Alkazhams claims Tigers in Jugner detect by scent.

So perhaps they aggro if your sneaking and invis and smell you?

I sort of agree and disagree on this one. I really got great information on stuff that I really needed post lvl 55. Then again, a lot of information is soo messed up. I.E. Cure V is RDM useable at 75 O.o The main problem w/ allakhazam is that the information being brought in by submitters aren't verified that much by the posters. Anyway, you'll know if an information is wrong when the rating is down and there's a whole bunch of message on the bottom clarifying the info.

Anyway, Deodorize is useful when ur out of mp in undead areas and you only have mp for sneak and deo. If you have yellow life or red, use deo so skellies won't aggro u. It's great...but I never actually use it since i have enough MP to heal myself. And I noticed that deodorize doesn't last long at ALL!

Purposely ran to eldieme to do some testing:

Sneak + Rest = No Aggro
Sneak + Yellow HP + Rest = Aggro
Sneak + Yellow HP + Deodorize + Rest = Aggro

Therefore I conclude that deodorize has nothing to do with undead 'smelling' your yellow (or lower) hp.

It must do something though.. I've had anticans damage me while resting mana. I had sneak on but not deodorize.. or maybe they just attacked my party and then I got "group agro".

edit : Mystery tour says "Deodorize : Target will not be smelled by the enemy, making him less likely to be attacked."
