  • Status Proc weaponry and Enspells?

Hello. As I'm sure most RDMs know after their first fire sword, our enspells don't stack with "additional effect: elemental damage" type weaponry.

However, I am currently considering purchasing a pair of Acid/Corrosive Baselards, which proc a defense weakening effect, while in my PTs. This would give me a low delay support option that would speed up enspell damage, while offering additional debuffs for my party to take advantage of.

So this is the inquiry, while it is known that elemental procs are overwritten by enspells, are status effects, such as silence, stune, defense down, etc?

And before anyone flips out, no I don't cast with them, I use a pair of solid wands, and a pair of mind and intelligence rings along with food to give myself +20-+23 MND or INT depending on the color of the spell I am casting.

Thanks in advance for any information that can be brought to the discussion.

Ok, I don't know the answer, so I'm just going to nitpick...

Level up a mage subjob, slacker

You will get bigger MND/INT boosts than an extra solid wand can provide, not to mention more MP.

I don't wish to be petty, but you are incorrect. A solid wand is +5 INT/MND.

      Level 40

HP MP STR DEX VIT AGI INT MND CHR
      RDM/NIN 625 254 37 38 35 36 39 37 35

      RDM/BLM 604 308 35 37 33 35 42 39 36

Perhaps if I were Taru these numbers would be different, however using my dual wands I actually make out with 2 more INT and 3 more MND per cast. I lose 54 MP, but make out positive on every stat excluding CHR(-1).

I am in a static PT within my LS, and never run out of MP clocking 4500-5000 xp an hour, using roast mushrooms, all this before convert. With Phalanx, Stoneskin, Blink and Utsusemi I can be SA-TAed off of, while doing about 40-50 damage a round of combat with my swords and enspells. I get resisted possibly 5% of the time, if that, while battling IT++ mobs, and my sleep sticks for over a minute.

While I appreciate your concern over my abilities to perform, I feel they are unfounded. Thank you nevertheless.

If nobody knows the answer to this question, I'll find out within a day or two and post it for other RDMs to know.

EDIT: The answer appears to be no. It would seem that enspells overwrite additional effects in entirety, perhaps replacing it with a parameter created by our enspell and enhancing skill.

It should be fine, you are adding damage not an effect. I was using my sleep dagger with enspell I think I remember it working on crawlers in CN when I was leveling dagger skill.

on the rdm/nin come time when you can cast escape that one spell knocks on the door of rdm pretty hard.

my sleep sticks for over a minute
i didn't know that was possible. i'm almost 100% sure that sleep and sleep II don't have variations in duration unless its a half-resist, which case, the mob wakes up in half the time. sleep should stick for 60 seconds and sleep II should stick for 90 seconds. i've tried this on all sorts of different mobs...whether its a too weak or a VT, the duration seems to be exactly the same.

          edit: swords = sorts

              4k/hr is a breeze at 40...

when you get to 55-60 and above you may miss the 100 or so MP you would get from a mage sub. it's a simple matter of longass fights

and since we're harping on the rdm/nin...

you're missing out on ele seal, warp, escape, aspir, drain, elemental enfeebles.

now, rdm/whm, you're missing out on a lot of magic there too. divine seal + status cures.

and without a mage sub, you're missing some serious MP. already you're 50 behind. it gets worse.

and no, you won't be doing significant damage soon. its not that you won't hit hard - your damage will be just under a paladin's (worst melee in the game) - its that you're gonna whiff, and whiff and whiff....

and you don't need to explain it all to us. most of us know that rdm/nin ain't all that great unless you are soloing.

but hey, you're in a static, so you have no one to answer to but them. so good luck.

Once you start fighting some real tough monsters you'll know how pathetic rdm's melee is against their insane evasion.

Not to mention those awful petrify, silence, paralyze, slow, gravity, blind, curse, poison, disease and stun effects you'll pick up in close range.
