I personally feel that /BLM is a superior SJ for elf RDM, because it makes us more balanced all around. At level 75, if i SJ WHM, my base INT is 56, and base MND is 73 (These are purely from memory, so I could be off by as much as 2 points on either or both). SJ BLM, INT 63 and MND 68. Again, from memory, please forgive if wrong.
However, I do also think that it's best to have both leveled. In PT, I use /BLM 90% of the time, but if I'm asked to I can pull out /WHM or /SMN. I have never been asked to pull out /SMN, by the way, although it HAS been incredibly handy against Serket. ^^
I find that when I am going along for help with missions, NMs, etc with my linkshell members though, I use /WHM almost exclusively. /WHM means one more person with erase, parana, blindna, etc. /BLM means um.. I can use raspe/drown/etc.. Which has its uses against NMs, but not as much use as the other spells I mentioned.
So my opinion is, raise /BLM for PT, raise /WHM for helping friends with junk, and if you can stand being bored to tears for 37 levels, raise /SMN for just-in-casesies.
