I don't know too many good HNM LS's that'll take a RDM who don't even have phalanx. I think most people refer to that as being "gimp." It is true however that in most pt situations (including HNM hunting pts), phalanx has limited uses, so maybe they won't mind.

But either way, if you want "farming as your main source of income" then you NEED phalanx...

I've never used Phalanx in any party so far. The only time I cast it in party is for blingbling showoff.

I don't claim to be an expert in HNM hunts since I've never been on one, but how is Phalanx needed for those? Is the red mage expected to tank?

As far as I know, phalanx for hnms is to mitigate damage from devastating AoE spells.

HNM AoE = Mage oneshotted without blink/stoneskin, so phalanx cutting the dmg and saving the mp needed to heal = thanks.

Most exp pt rules go out the window for hnms...

Pld/Nin with earth staff, flash/provoke/cure for hate ^^
Melee hit mob ONLY for renkei, then 2 mages die due to hate from Bursts ^^

Mnk boost for 1 min, then chi blast for 500 and die sometimes ^^

It all sounds really fun. I wanna go! ^^

- Palborough mines: kill the 2 scorpions found on the SE and SW corner of the 3rd level. They are really easy to kill (I kill them in 5 hits as lvl 30'ish). They have 4 drops. Scorpion stinger (600'ish gils), scorpion shell (1k), this wierd scythe (sells to shop for 1.1k), and key. With /thf sub'd I get drop from these scorions maybe 1 out of 2, sometimes 2 drops with 1 kill. Pop time of these is 12 minutes, and it takes about 2 or 3 minutes to run from one site to the other. So with coordination, you can kill them right after they pop. I forgot what else I was doing when I farmed there, but I think I killed quads that dropped keys in between the scorpions. And of course, look for the TC when I have a key. There are also 2 or 3 NM's there worth killing. One drops a 20k sword I think? (sorry it's been a while)

50'ish: I farmed almost exclusively at delk when I was mid 50'ish. Some other options though...

- Davoi: 3 NM's within easy reach of each other. There's this one camp that's just south of the entrance that has orcs, war lizards, and a orc firebreather. Sub /thf and clear the entire camp. War lizards drop tails, eggs, and skins. On my server, the skins sell for 7-8k per stack, eggs maybe 1k per stack. Tails I sell to the store or throw away. I think in 1 hour, i can get about 1 stack of skins, 2 stack of eggs. The orcs there should be easy to kill for lvl 50'ish. You can steal silver beastcoins from them, and rare drop is lvl 24'ish armor (the chain series) that sells for around 3-6k each at AH. The firebreather occasionally drops a boomerang that sells for 5k to the store. I think there's 1 or 2 NM's there too.

- Batallia tigers is good for lvl 50'ish... but competition there is usually pretty bad.

That's all I remember for now... I'll post more when I think of more things.

The orc NM that spawns in that area think is Steelbiter something... but I know he drops the Lizard Piercer lance. Not sure what it sells for though.

Also, Batallia Tiger competition on my server is not that bad, but here's a question... why is it always Batallia? Jugner has easier tigers with just as good a drop rate. Plus no one is there. Is there just more Tigers in Batallia, so thats where people go?

Hey thanks for all the input, but i was wondering if it is safe for me to farm these places w/o phalanx ....as the sole reason for me farming is to buy phalanx.

Also isn't there a BCNM that drops phalanx? Couldn't i just have my LS whoop on him with my beastman seals until i get the drop as a favor?

I'd stick to Delkfutt until you get Phalanx. You'll have no problem there. Take your key and keep going between the basement and 10F to kill elements, giants and magic urns.

When you get Phalanx, a lot more options open for you - you can start fighting enemies that give you EXP At 56/57, I solo in Oztroya a fair bit. The BLM, BRD, NIN, MNK guys on the 2F around the garden are pretty cool. You get gil, crystals if you have signet, occasional chest key (some respectable gil there), but the best part is secret (you'll see if you keep killing Conquistadors).

BCNM40 drops Phalanx. If you know a bunch of BSTs, do the rabbit one in Yughott.
