I spent the last few days (aside from just messing around) getting money together for Dispel, but I didn't want to make the trek all the way to Rabao to get it cheaper. Windurst was at the ridiculous price of 75k+, so I decided to go to Jeuno to weight my options. I checked the AH, and low and behold, the price history for Dispel was something like 72k,71k, 70k, 71k, 69k,68k,69k

So naturally I started my bidding at 65k and worked my way up... ended up getting it for 68k, which is just over the max Rabao fame price. I know it's a drop in the new BCNM, so I assume it will only go down from here, probably as low as 25k or less, but I simply HAD to have it now in order to continue with my leveling (I'm a fairly responsible mage who tries to keep up to date as much as possible)

As if that werent enough good news, Phalanx, known notoriously as being one of the most expensive spells out there, has now dropped to 120k...a far cry from the 350k it once was. There were 9 of them up for sale, indicating to me that it will likely drop further. By the time I farm enough gil to get it, I'm hoping it will be around 100k or less.

by now alot of the NA LS's have more than enough members with appropriate Jobs to regularly do BCNM weekends,

on midgardsormr, while price drops are great, i've found that after the price drops on BCNM40 items, people just stop doing them because its not worth it.

so eventually the price skyrockets again. just a heads up, if you see phalanx in that sub 200k range, grab it while you can, chances are, the price will climb again - especially with all the other BCNM's out there now.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind... however, it's going to be rough getting together 120k quickly... any tips for a 34 RDM?

34rdm, hmm those were very dry times as an rdm for me, ended up lvling other jobs to get the gil,

phalanx? I didnt get the spell till 59-60,
I couldnt even afford it I actually borrowed the gil from a freind, after i got phalnx though wow, i managed to farm the 80k gil that i borrowed in a few days,

I am still kicking myself for not getting it earlier, It has definately payed for itself,


now i need to get to lvl68 and buy the Enchantment sword,
anyone got 6million gil on odin i could borrow?

Dispel

Dispel is a pretty crappy buy, becuase it's not even really based on AH prices. It's obtainable in one manner, which is buying it from Windurst NPC, and that is one fixed price. You just get to hope that someone with high windurst fame gets a discount ^^

No offense, but did you read my post completely?

I just said, it's a drop in the new BCNM (20), so prices will drop as people do that BCNM more and more. I wouldn't be surprised to see it fall very low, like around the 25k-30k range.

Also, no amount of Windurst fame will lower the price there. It's always 75k

You must be thinking of Rabao where the price is 70k, and fame will bring it down to as low as 66k.

I'm pretty sure with max Rabao fame (which is in Selbina for some reason..) Dispel is obtainable at 63k. Then again, it was very late at night when I was in Rabao -_-;

La Theine Cabbage runs for that old man in Selbina are very useful too; not only does it lower the price for scrolls in Rabao, but there is Protect II, Cure III, Raise, En- spells and other "higher-level" WHM spells, and quite a few Lv2 BLM spells as well.. max out your Rabao fame and you could find yourself paying much less for scrolls... Cure II is like 585G with max fame -_-

personally any rdm whom i come across in a group around 35+ fighting somewhere that dispel is need, crawlers anyone? who doesn't have it will be sure to get a mouthfull in one way or another, maybe mean, maybe suggesting depending on how well they're doing they're job. dispel is such a important spell and so many ppl just look 70k!?!?!?!?! screw that it can't be that good.

Yes, I'm also in that zone where I need to have Dispel before I start partying again, and I too really want phalanx. The problem is I don't think that many people are doing BCNM 30's. And even then they will try to sell them for what the current auctions are ~60K. What's worse, on my server (Seraph) I don't think I've ever seen Phalanx drop below 300K (erase still also around that), so BCNM40's are still where a lot of the big money is at.

Windy fame lowers the price of Dispel in Windy.

It cost me 68k when I bought it, almost certainly less now.

Why would one spell be 'special' and not affected by the usual rules of fame?

As you can see, according to FFXI Mysterytour, only those two BCNMs will drop the scroll of Dispel. The time limit is 15 minutes, and only three people can participate together at once. I'm really hoping to do one of these BCNMs, but I have to wait for a strategy for them to pop up on the internet.

Sukashi is right. The scroll can be bought for 63k in Rabao, confirmed by a level 56-ish RDM friend that took me there.

for nearly all spells from 1-50, they are far, far cheaper to buy at the store, dispel included. in fact, maxing out your selbina fame can get you quite a bit of money if you want to invest in scrolls to sell at jeuno, though it might take a little while. you can even make money raising fame there (7k/stack boyahda moss, quest pays 7200/stack). not worthwhile, but still...its like free fame.

I can confirm that with max Rabao fame, Dispell costs exactly 63,000 gils.

I went there to buy it for more than a few new RDM's ^^

Don't you find it strange that Dispel is the exact same price as when I was a level 1 newb? My fame is pretty high in Windurst, so it should have dropped at least some if it was ever going to.

I might need someone to back me up here, but Echo, have you actually ~checked~ the price of Dispel in Windurst or are you assuming? (just asking, not accusing)
