    How Monster Builds TP:

    - When The monster receives any sort of Elemental damage or DoT (damage over time spells such as poison) they will increase their TP by 10.

    - When monster receives physical damage their TP increases depending on what weapon hits them + 3. Example, if its a H2H weapon it builds up 5+5 (5 each) and then adds 3. So monsters get 13 TP when both h2h hits lands.

    - When Monster hits a PC. This TP increase depends on the delay of the monsters weapons (or claws or punch or what ever...) TP increase are as follows.

    Delay : TP increase
    ~180 : 5 TP increase
    180~480 : ((Delay-180)/256)x7+5
    480~ : ((Delay-480)/1024)x13 +12
    780~ : (Delay-780)/80 + 16

    Exceptions:

    - Spells which does not have any Damage component such as debuffs, or skills which doesn't add any physical or magical damage such as Provoke, Steal etc... does no ADD any TP to the monster.

    - En Line of additional spells will NOT add TP to the monster. This was patched long ago.

When Monsters Executes their TP attack:

    - When their Health is above 20% and TP is at 100% and they receive additional hit.

    - When their Health is 20% or lower, as soon as they get 100% TP.

Some Info reguarding of Monsters WS:

    - Magic type
・Adequate Bar line of spells increases the chance of resisting the WS
・Shell and adequate Job traits (such as resist slow) has a chance of reducing the WS damage or effect by half.
・If the WS is in the same element as the date, the damage will increase by 10%. Same goes with the opposite element the damage reduces by 10%.
・Resist can go from 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 of normal damage.
    EX: Goblins Bomb attack*
*Notice, Goblin's Bomb attack (suicide) is NOT a magic based attack.

    - Breath Type
・Shell and the Job's Resist Trait will NOT take into effect.
・Damage of the Breath is dependant on Mobs Current hp. It doesn't have any element (uncofirmed)
・Resist can go from 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 of normal damage.
・Breath damage will not increase or decrease by date of element.

    Element Based on WS:
・Increasing the according element protection will have the CHANCE to reduce the evation against that ws.
Example, 3 Bat Jet Stream it is said its Wind based attack x 3. Increasing resistance against wind will have a chance of evading some of the hits.. like 2 hits...

Lastly, this page shows the delay of mob's attacks. Its in japanese but the deley is displayed : 攻撃間隔 like this. Or just look at the 3 digit numbers such as 240.

Hope this helps clarify some of the reasons its not good to melee in some circumstances. These results are 100% User gathered data and its not 100% certain but close enough.

I would like to point out that I don't think monsters gain TP when hit by damage spells. When soloing as blm, I've soloed things like Goobbues and Malboros without ever suffering a WS from the enemy. All I have to do is NOT engage the enemy while using only spells for damage. I can hit a Malboro with more than 10 damage spells and never see a WS(Bad Breath or otherwise). This is at close range, mind you(start off fight with Bind, Burn, then nuke, Bind usually wears off, battle ends at close range).

Maybe monsters gaining TP from nukes was patched in recently, but I haven't noticed any changes of the sort.
