  • Best race for RDM before and after refresh/convert.

What would be best race before and after?

  • #2
In most situations taru make the best mages.

      before refresh/convert: Taru no doubt

after: Taru, Hume, or Mithra. choose to your style

personally i prefer hume because redmages are versatile, i thought the race should reflect that.

Taru get the best Convert ratio, no question.

However, Mithra/Hume give you more freedom to play other jobs, while still being able to do the RDM job just fine. I don't know Mithra specifics, but Hume also has a better balance of MND/INT than Taru, which has a slight MND deficiency. I find WHM enfeebles get resisted far more often than BLM enfeebles (here I'm referring to Slow/Para, two of the most important spells in the game), and INT isn't hard to boost a little bit more through food, so having a bit more base MND can't hurt.

Just offhand then I'd say Hume or Mithra is probably the best unless you never plan to play anything but a mage job. Yeah, Tarus have way more MP, but you can get gear that gives you enough MP to do your job and then some. So it's not such a big issue. I'd say them, the whole time.

I'm happy being a Hume, since I can solo easy prey enemies relatively easy. Taru HP just...... scares me. Though if I had known that I would be primarily a caster, and didn't bust up laughing at every Taru I see, then I would have been a Taru so that I could focus on +MND/INT items, since their MP pool is already so vast. Instead, my head, body, rings, and pants are all selected for their +MP stats. (When I get more gil, I'll work on those equip macros I see discussed by many of the higher level RDM's on this board ^^)

First off, HP isnt that much of a problem when you have phalanx and stoneskin. I dont know of to many rdm's that rely soley on their hp when it comes to either soloing or farming.^^

Tarutaru have, hands down, the most efficient convert ratio of any of the rdm's. Tarutaru's also can focus more on other items like mnd or int instead of going -hp/+mp items.

Before Convert ratio, tarutaru rdm's seem to get groups much faster due to their mp to be used as a main healer or backup healer. Sorry rdm's do not get chosen into groups for their melee skills alone~

If you want to play numbers its going to be Taru for MP to HP converting ratio. I still like my Hume and after AF I don't have problems with MP like I sometimes had in the level 40-55 range. Its gotten better as my job has been more defined. After Convert and healing I'm mostly fine since a redmage will probably never get hit and that would be because of a sleeping link or add that you have slept with sleep2. Stoneskin+Blink takes care of that little problem.

Electrum Hairpin, Electrum/Astral Rings, Gold Hairpin, Fencing Degen, Crimson Blade, Holy Phail/Promise Badge, Royal Squire's Robe, and various RSE parts mean no MP worries in 40-55 range.
