Can someone help me? Some may be dumb, but..
    I am at lvl 6:

    (1) how can I obtain gil? I don't have much because I'm not getting much gil. Anything I should/can sell at the auction house?

    (2) when can i start my support job? is there an order to starting it?

    (3) can i buy WM like Protect if I am a RDM, or do I have to have a support job of WM to do that?

    (4) what is the easist way to get from somewhere like Port Wind to Bastok?

thanks in advance for your answers.

    1. make sure you have signet on so that when you kill monsters, crystals will drop. Collect crystals into stacks of 12 and sell them at the Auction House (this applies to other drops too).

Since you are from windurst, the bees drop wind crystals (1 - 1.2k per stack) and honey (~1k/stack). This should be some good starting income.

edit: and don't ever beg for gil or gear. For most ppl, this is an instant blist.

    2. At 18. you have to complete a quest for it. See the guide on the main page.

    3. Yes, Protect is usuable by RDM too. It will say on the spell description if you can use it.

    4. At your lvl, there is no "easy" way. You can run to muhara and take a boat into selbina and from there run to bastok. Assuming you don't aggro the monsters along the way, I would estimate this trip to be about 45 minutes to 1 hour real time.

    Thanks Yyg!

Wow, those ~are~ newb questions. Most can be answered by the most basic means in game, but I'll give you some answers since i'm bored.

      1) Do quests, sell stacks of things. Crystals are easiest starting out. Check the price history at the auction house to see what they are selling for and put them for sale. There are many quests that give you gil as a reward. Talk to NPC's and you will find some.

      2) You can get the quest to get a subjob at level 18. You need to collect 3 items that are dropped off monsters in Valkurm or Burubimu. You can obtain these items at a level earlier than 18, but you cant actually get the quest till 18.

      3) Some spells can be used by RDM as well as WHM. Remember that RDM can use both White and Black magic, but just not all of it. When you go to purchase a spell, it will tell you on it's description if and when you can use it. In your example, Protect is a WHM/RDM/PLD spell and can be used at level 7 by both WHM and RDM (not sure about Paladin) But the spell Protectra is WHM only and level 7, which means you have to be WHM or have a level 7 WHM sub to use it.

      4) At your stage of the game, there is really no reason to make that trip, but if you must, 2 feet and a heartbeat are the only way (plus a 15 minute ride on the ferry) Later chocobos make it quicker as well as airships much later on. You can also get reasonably close to the other major cities via the WHM spell teleport once you acquire certain key items from the different regions.

thanks for the replies - turned 7 last night, which is progress for me. I few hints questions:

        (1) when i played this morning, i noticed that i didnt get anything (exp) from the small ones anymore - at my level, can i do the giant bees or things of that level, or is that overkill?

        (2) equipment: can i go the bow route or is that not wise? currently using a staff, and have a sword at lvl 10 in usage. is the delay higher if the # is higher or lower? confused on that.

        (3) I now understand the spells - thanks, but it says I can cast Paralyse, but the place in Wind doesnt sell it...?

i know, newbie questions, but your answer help a lot. thanks.

          1) You have to get in the habit of "checking" the monsters before you fight them. Monsters have a level just like you do. If you kill one that you check and it says "Too weak to be worthwhile" then you wont get any exp at all from it. They will still drop items, but no exp and no crystals. (you have to get exp to get crystals) Also, at your level, you probably want to avoid monsters that are "Even Match" or "tough", as even if you beat them, you will be resting for a while. In that time, you could have killed 200xp worth of weaker enemies with no risk of death.

          2) Bow is good for messing around, but sword will be your primary weapon. Sword is good for delay. Some wands can match the delay of swords, but they don't hit as hard. If you are WHM or BLM, you cant use bows.

          3) Paralyze is one of those spells that cant be bought in shops. You will have to go to the auction house, or kill beastmen that cast magic to get them. (Orcish Mesmeriser, Yagudo Acolyte, Amber Quadav) Best bet is the AH... only 100 gil on my server.

With all 3 jobs, I soloed until level 10. With RDM, I actually soloed until level 12, then I went to Shakrami Maze, found a party, and got myself to level 14 I think. I went from 12-14 with BLM there last night.

Then I went to Valkurm Dunes, grouped up and got to level 19 with RDM, then went to Quifim and got to level 20, and got my Chocobo. Then I leveled 3 more times in Quifim until 24, but I plan to go back to get to 25.

It's all a matter of finding the best places to level in your area. I did much of my soloing in the Horoto Ruins, and Giddeus. Shakrami maze is great exp from level 11-15, getting 150+ exp for every Maze Maker you kill.

It really helped that I had played the game before and knew both where to level, and the limitations of soloing. My only adjustment was getting used to Taru, as I was Elvaan before. I have much less HP now, but I have MP to burn, so there hasnt been too many foes I couldnt beat when fully healthy.

As for missions, wait till about level 10, then do mission 1,2,3. I wouldn't attempt M4 until you are about level 15 or so. (this applies to San d'Oria and Windurst...if youre from Bastok, I'm not familliar with their missions)

I guess I may ask you since noone is answering my other post. Is it easy to do macros? I want to try and make a couple, just for simple stuff like going from Dia to Stone to Attack or something. Can you help?

Macros are very simple to make ^^ The main variables to macros; let's take Cure as an example:

                    /ma "Cure" <stpc>

/ma - Magic; use this for any kind of magic.. and it includes Songs, Ninjutsu, and Summoning Magics as well. /ja is used for Job Abilities (Convert, Divine Seal, Elemental Seal, etc.)

"Cure" - The name of the spell, the name is case-sensitive, and you have to put the name of the spell in quotes.

<stpc> - This is the command to select target, but limits the targets to only PCs (Player Characters).

                    Other <t> alternatives:
                    - <t> - You have to select the appropriate monster or player, since the macro will target the spell on the specified target
                    - <st> - nearly the same as <t>, but once you press the macro, you can select the monster or player. Exactly the same as selecting the spell from the magic list, which gives you that "purple" arrow to select the target you want to cast on
                    - <stpc> - same as <st>, limits the targets available to PCs only
                    - <stnpc> - same as <st>, limits the targets avaiable to NPCs only
                    - <bt> - you don't need to select anything for this... it selects the monster that is currently being attacked by the party (name of monster is in red). However, it should be cautioned that if your party has a monster add (linked monster that aggros while party is currently fighting one), <bt> will select the target that's closest to you. NOT good if your BLM just cast Elemental Seal + Sleep II
When party is not fighting anything, I think it's the same as <t>.
                    - <p0 - p5> - selects the person that is in the nth slot, yourself being <p0> and the number increasing going down the list.
                    - <me> - same as <p0>

The /wait command is very useful, if it's not used in some kinds of macros the system will regard the commands as spam and an error will occur ("...A command error occurred.") For my Convert macro with WHM sub...

                    /p (Convert) HPâ†?→MP, watch me! (;゜ãƒ_゜)
                    /wait 1
                    /ja "Convert" <me>
                    /wait 1
                    /ja "Divine Seal" <me>

I think there are more... but I'm not sure :S

so lets' say i wanted to make one where whoever i target, it would cast dia, then poison, or dia then stone? Would it be like this:

                      /ma "Dia" <stnpc>
                      /ma "Stone" <stnpc>

something like that? can I add attack in here? also, is there one you can set for the skillchain?

                        /ma "Dia" <stnpc>
                        /wait 4
                        /ma "Stone" <bt>
                        /wait 4
                        /attack

You have to take into account casting time, and cooldown time when you are making macros that cast multiple spells.

                        One for skillchain... hmm:
                        /p Using (Fast Blade)!! <call20>
                        /wait 1
                        /ws "Fast Blade" <bt>
