Red mage's are needed in pt like whm

I'm a 50rdm/25nin and I use both melee and mage gear i have 1 electrum ring and still use rse gear because of the mp boost it gives and u should not be getting aggro anyway 2 agi earrings and red cape a must for rdm at this lvl i have over 350 mp and still hit IT mob for at least 40 per attack + enchant dmg but i find myself now using refresh alot and a little enfeeble and magic burst on renkei my parties have no down time and i never drop pass 150 mps i don't know what rdm u playing with but it making us look bad

First of all, as a RDM you really shouldn't be in the frontline as a melee (*glances at /NIN sub*), especially at such high a level... those AoE spells WILL hurt, and if you get hit by Silence it will be total destruction

If I'm not mistaken, aren't RDMs supposed to be master debuffers, backup healer/nuker, and support? I find it amazing that you can cast Refresh on everyone, keep tabs on everyones' Refresh durations, enfeeble the monster, Dispel when monster uses enhancing ability, backup heal, participate in Magic Bursts, and STILL have time to melee, risking AoE damage?

depends on what your PT is XPing on.

You can get by without a bard or rdm if you are chaining Toughs very quickly in an even levelled PT. anything Higher will have downtime issues without a refresher or bard.

Sure, we can easily do that if we have both a bard and ninjya tank in certain places and against certain creatures. Even RDM/nothing can do that, too.

However, do you really wanna stand on the frontline against, for instance, anticans in Quicksand Caves (one of the best places to level around 50 and make good money, too) always crying and asking white mages for Erase (Heavy), Silena (Silence), and Stona (Stone)? If I find one, I'm sure I'll kick this fool out of my PT and add it in my BL right away - kidding.

Well, we don't always use the same tactics. It's really up to where we go, what we hunt and how our PT is configured. The reason many people recommend we sub mage-type jobs is, I believe, because it works in any cases and always enhances our potential as a caster. That's it. Noone prevents you from being RDM/NIN if you think it's the best combo and it always works perfect for you.

I'm only level 15 and I already don't have time to melee.. It may be that my parties are always fighting IT worms for huge EXP, but all I ever unsheath my sword for is just to keep my target locked on the correct enemy and not bats. If I do bother to go into melee, I usually get silenced.. and I'm not even swinging my sword. I just stand there and spam Cures on the tank while being near the worm.

Maybe, once per 2 cures, I'll actually swing my sword, but that's about it.

Awesome I love RDM/NIN's and think they do just fine in group. I've grouped with taru RDM/NIN's and they melee better than i do as a RDM/WHM Elvaan, and still keep up with the debuffs.

I'll keep the /NIN SJ bashing to a minimum. RDM can melee fine, but it really depends on the situation. pulling out your blade in an xp team with AOE IT monsters is usually a bone-head thing to do and most intelligent PT leaders will boot you for stupidity before putting the rest of the team at risk.

The ONLY time I pull out my blade is if:

A) It's a skill-up PT
B) The ITs are gone, and we're chaining non-AOE Toughs.
C) I'm farming solo.

While we do get some pretty nifty blades at 55+, our damage+ En-magic is about on par with an underequipped PLD or a THF sans crit damage from Sneak Attack and their multi-hit WS.

Pulling out your blade in an xp PT chaining ITs will definately increase PT downtime and you WILL miss your recast notices, you WILL run out of mana and you WILL take damage and/or die needlessly. Let's also mention that you WILL miss >50% of your swings.

RDM is a supporter role, by putting melee before your other PT duties, you will inevitably fall behind in your casting duties and take needless damage or status ailments. That's my 2 cents.

Look im a lvl 13 RDM in the Dunes (Gilgamesh server) and i do attack..only for about9-12 (19-24 critical) but not all the time...as soon as someone pull a lizard ill Bind, Bio, Paralyze, dia, poison in that order....sometines not bio for obvious reasons ( 22mp outa 134...is bad) then ill attack til WHM is near low mp (34mp or so left) and i heal the tank or mages that got hit...so im not doing much attacking

You cast bind? Or is that a typo and you meant blind? Cause you shouldnt use bind, unless your PT is zoning or something like that. Also, I think Dia and Bio cancel each other out.

yea i meant blind.....and bind doesnt even work all the offen....ill cast it and before it says the <t> is bound itll say the<t> is nolonger bound lolololol............
