  • Questions on Stoneskin and Phalanx

I have some questions regarding these two spells and others.

Mainly, what do they do? I have heard that Phalanx helps reduce Damage and that stoneskin does the same, but do they stack? Does Blink stack with them as well?

How useful are they? And will their utilization compare to say a party fighting an IT mob with high defense?

Basically, what I am looking for is the usefulness of these spells and what they do, and how effective they are as a whole.

Aquaveil=Reduces Interruption this I know, but by how much?

Stoneskin=no clue on this one save that it helps you take damage. Would like more information if possible please.

    Phalanx=Same as above

Blink=I know it creates images that take hits for you, but how many? How long does it last and how useful is it as a whole?

Any and all information is appreciated. I thank everyone in advance.

Phalanx: Phalanx will reduce damage by half, mainly depending on your enchanting magic skill. It's very helpful for soloing.

Stoneskin: Depending on the difficultly of the monster will reduce all damage taken to 0, I think it depends on your skill too not sure though

Blink: Blink lasts about 3 hits, but with the White Magic blink it does dodge every single attack like the Ninja one does, so you maybe be hit with blink on.

All 3 spells are put to good use for soloing. Stoneskin will reduce the damage to 0 and Phalanx will increase how long stoneskin lasts, also having Blink on helps to recast.
But in a PT they are mainly used to keep yourslef from getting damage, especialy after convert.

Phalanx cuts all incoming damage. the amount it cuts varies on your skill. not half. Some enemies that normally hit me for 20-30 will do a lot of 0 zeroes with phalanx casted on me.

stoneskin is a wall of stone that has a certain amount of HP which will increase depending on your skill again. for example if your stoneskin has 90 HP, it will recieve damage for you for 90 points. If the monster hit you for 10, it will last 9 hit. And if the monster hit you for 130, it will be gone and you will take 40 damage.

The reason phalanx and stoneskin work together so nicely is because with phalanx casted, you take less damage. which means your stoneskin take less damage too so it can last very very long sometimes.

I've got a question about phalanx... How long does it last? <_<

Okay, so here is another question mayhaps you can answer in addition with the previous poster's question.

Say you sub red mage and the main class does not have enhancing. (( The Spell Skill I am going to assume Phalanx and Stoneskin and the EN______ Spells are associated with. ))

So the cap would be roughly...109 at level 37 I believe.

Would the spells still be effective as a sub job's? Or would Phalanx And stoneskin and Blink etc, be practically worthless?

Would they almost always be resisted? Or would they still stand strong?

          My Thanks in advance,

I don't know how good stoneskin and phalanx will work as sub : / En will be very weak for sure tho... will need some high level melee to try that out (my melee jobs are not high enough to use phalanx)

Phanlanx lasts about 3mins, dont quote me

I dont think phalanx is as effective as a sub, but still does the job, I friend of mine was 66whm/33rdm and i was 66rdm/33blm at the time, was hunting spider NM on 2 seperate solo occasions, I was told by the WHM they struggled with 4 spider link, but can manage, I could have had 50 spiders training me, they were all taking 0 anyway (without stoneskin). Thing is, WHM have good enhancing skill so im not sure what/if there is a penalty as phalanx sub

EN- : [Your Enhancing Magic Skill] / 20 + 5 (Affected by the date and weather, too)
                Bar- : [Your Enhancing Magic Skill] / 5 + 40
                Phalanx: [Your Enhancing Magic Skill] / 7.5 - 10

I think these three fomulas are correct. As for stoneskin, I don't get the formula yet but it is already proved that both your skill and MND affects the amount of damage it absorbs. Here's the statistics from those who tested it with Cactuars (Thousand Needles) in the desert

                Skill 94 / MND 60?@: Absorb 122 damage
                Skill 94 / MND 65?@: Absorb 132 damage
                Skill 156 / MND 69 : Absorb 182 damage
                Skill 225 / MND 65 : Absorb 230 damage
                Skill 240 / MND 60 : Absorb 230 damage
                Skill 240 / MND 65 : Absorb 245 damage
                Skill 240 / MND 70 : Absorb 260 damage
                Skill 240 / MND 89 : Absorb 317 damage

Therefore, I conclude that both spells don't help you much when your main job doesn't have any enhancing magic skills. It is the same for MND. Melee jobs usually has less MND than mages.
