oh yeah, i think our situation is rather unique..in any other pt you would want to go bow or gun for sure. once she gets an obow its going to be very interesting to see who does the most damage though. if you lend eli your ebow again itll be really interesting ;o we have every type of rng in our pt, im the gun slinger

haha, not only do i love shooting an acid bolt (usually most things i fight is like 95% defense down on 1 shot, so im not continually shooting them trying to stick it) but I love the fact that darksteel bolts quiver.

I have many jobs that i lv, and my thief has the most equipment for sure, so usually, im carrying around all my equips for thief and rng, so the quivers definately help a lot. The fact that kabura arrows are so expensive, and the next best are demon, with only att down effect.. in the higher lvls bow seemed just to weak to me. I might have used gun, but I really am impatient player and hated the long delays, I need a machine crossbow

I really don't want to spend alot of gil on Guns when I can just lvl my Marksmanship with an X-Bow, I like Bows better then X-Bows, but at high lvls there are better Guns to use.

Well the O-bow is def a choice X-bow to use. I just finished camping it for a 67 RNG friend of mine earlier on my THF... We didnt get drop but we're going to try again ; ;. Anyway, it has some nice stat boosts and a high damage, especially for an x-bow

Hm... something I'm confused about. Even at 67 when you can use O-bow, doesn't E-bow still do better damage, from stats alone? Keep in mind I'm not high enough to use O-bow yet, so this is purely speculation. Compare:

E-bow : d71, delay490, RNG ACC+2, RNG ATK+23, STR+3, AGI+3
Demon Arrow: d34, delay 90, RNG ACC+5, adtl effect: weakens attacks
Combined: d105, delay 580, RNG ACC+7, RNG ATK+23, STR+3, AGI+3, weakens attacks
PPA : d40, delay 120, RNG ACC+40, RNG ATK+10
Combined: d111, delay 610, RNG ACC+42, RNG ATK+33, STR+3, AGI+3

O-bow: d54, delay 432, RNG ATK+18
Darksteel Bolt: d50, delay 192
Combined: d104, delay 623, RNG ATK+18
GMBolt: d60, delay 140, RNG ACC+10, RNG ATK+20
Combined: d114, delay 572, RNG ACC+10, RNG ATK+38

It seems E-bow has more damage, less combined delay, better stat bonuses. I guess O-bow gives slightly more TP with barrage, but its WS and barrages will still be weaker than E-bow's. With CP ammo + Unlimited shot, slugshot might do slightly more damage, but sidewinder is by far more accurate.

Is the only useful part about o-bow the fact you can decrease def with acid bolts? I guess in that case if you have a multiple RNG PT, it's best for just one RNG use o-bow and everyone else use bow or gun.

i really do think the def down bolts make the biggest difference. Just watching damage it usually jumps 20-30 pts after def down... i dont know. i think i told you before im not into the formulas much, but i love my xbow and damage i do with it. If anything I bet the damage is close, but i personally think E bow is overrated once you can use o bow

Acid Bolt is not purely for your own damage. Its for enhancing the other your skillchain partner. I was doing 150+20ish light damage on cockratice/tigers in kuftal at 68. Our monk was doing 90+ on them with brd and def down on them. We were getting 5k an hour and i don't care if i was outdamaged. If i was just about damage i would do guns all the way. Funny note is that our skillchain was dragon>arching and i would get consistantly 700 topping at 900ish and he only got 900 once and mostl 500s. So really using an o-bow might NOT be the most damaging combo but it probably increases xp flow the most. And until HNMs isn't that all what the game is about?

Oh, I know, and I definitely agree with you Toki. It's a REALLY good xbow. But I just wonder why some people sell their E-bow at 67 and go O-bow all the way... even the rich people. E-bow still seems better, especially if you have another RNG in your PT to use o-bow for acids (this happens quite often lately). Oh well, I guess people just like saving money perhaps.

If the only real advantage o-bow has over e-bow is acid bolts, then just let one RNG use o-bow while other RNG use bow or gun... at least that's how I see it.

I was always under the impressions that Holy Bolts were also good with the O-Bow because of the additional affect. Anyone know how close DarkSteel bolts and Holy bolts are in DoT? (including the additional affects from the Holy bolts)

I'd imagine that it would be about even, maybe Holy a little more because of the add effect? I dont really know since i havent used em but it seems a lot of RNG still use Holy after they can use Darksteel... There must be a reason.

It's because holy is 1.5 a stack instead of 6-8k a stack.

Darksteel kills holy on WS and barrage damage and from what I've read in most cases, outdamages holy on regular shots including it's effect. (as well they should, their base damage is a lot higher). They're also nice and quiverable.

Yeah don't forget about pricetags. That's why you see bow RNG using scorps instead of demons. Or if you don't have an e-bow there's no reason not to use guns post 50 if money wasn't an issue. I think darksteel is better than holy overall but the pricetag drives potential customers away :sweat:

And from what I've noticed, making your own arrows/bolts aren't noticeably cheaper until you regularly HQ them. Then again you don't have to pay jeuno's crazy AH taxes.
