  • Guns...

I've always read that guns will do better damage then bows after 50. However, after doing calculations with info from Mysterytour (doing (Weapon DMG + Ammo Bullet)/(Weapon Delay + Ammo Delay)), the ONLY time guns are better is between 22-30.

Did I do something wrong? The only thing I see that's so good about guns is that they have better weapon DMG. And if you're able to pick up an Ebow, the DMG difference is minimal.

And please do not bring up the money factor of guns. Just best damage output.

Guns should perform a lot better with WS's and Barrage than bows will after 51. (Which aren't delay dependant.)

And as much as everyone talks about Ebows, they're quite rare. Kinda like all the melee talk about having 2 snipers, but you're lucky if your guys have even 1.

I'm going to have Ebow at lv 55! I'm so close to it! I think Ebow is compared to Sniper Ring+1 (x2) not just Sniper ring.

Guns are much cooler in animation and generally do more damage at levels where you get a new gun/bullets over bow/arrows. You must remember that Crossbows are part of marksmenship too. So taking Dark Steel Bolts into action, those can probably break even with arrows.

Delay factor is important enough to take it to consideration however you might want to take the rapid shot ability into consideration too. Since the higher the delay the more valueable the rapid shot ability.

Well does anyone know how exactly delay converts into seconds? That is one gigantic peeve of mine, I really wish delat was in secs not in whatever it is measured in right now. Anyways guns I am sure do much more dmg than what you are saying, there is no way to justify the enormous cost of bullets and guns if they didn't do a substantially greater amount of damage. The longer delay also helps with getting TP faster so you would have to factor in a greater number of ws's. Then again using more ws's probably would end up in death by pissed off mob so that may not be such a good idea.

roughy 100 delay = 1 second base delay.

I dislike guns (even though i have one) beacuse i can't really justify the cost for damage ratio.... sure it hits hard, but guns have longer delay and the silver bullets are notoriously expensive. When you shoot as much as I do... shooting and missing is very hurtful to watch.

Maybe fun to use in alliances when you can do unlimited shot + slugshot while skilling up your sword/axe/dagger, but it would cost about 50k an exp session if I solely used guns.

Plus, i think i can shoot more freely with bows so i end up doing more damage...

ok, thats what i was thinking but I just wasn't sure, and to have a mithra (best on paper ranger race) saying that even they have problems with missing makes me very hesitant to use a gun as a taru. Even if I hit I still have to worry about getting breathed on wrong by the mob.

Tarus have very good agi, so they make good rangers. Their average damage is lower than even mithra's though, and they have to manage hate better cuz of HP problems. Other than that, they make decent rangers.

it all depends on how much you spend though. More you spend = more damage... this applies to most melee damagers.

yeah it looks like I am gonna be spending quite a large amount of my time farming since if I am gonna go rng/nin than I insist on having the best stuff money can buy. But I chose taru because I didn't really feel like playing a mithra and i knew they had the next highest agi so I decided, they look the coolest and they fit the role pretty well, why not! :-D Anyways I can't wait to get through whm lvls so I can get started on my rng. Hehehe that AF armor looks so cool on taru rangers. Anyone know of any places that I can get pics of the ranger relic armor?

Too bad you can't switch ranged weapons w/o losing TP so you could do guns for WS/Barrage and bow for buildling TP :p

You can switch your weapon after you do your WS, then wait for the moment to finish the mob off with a barrage with another weapon if that makes you happy
