Are rangers affected by update? and other questions about money

Hi everybody,

well i know the update is now a bit of an old topic, but im not really active in the RNG board and I can't find a thread that answers my question. I've grown to like more and more ranged jobs and high damage classes, from experience from other mmorpg and Final Fantasy XI. Im thinking on starting a Mithra RNG, but i wanted to know if rangers are affected by tp nerf?
also can somebody gather enough gill to be a great ranger, if ranger is your main job and if u don't want to lvl up another job?
What are the best ways to gill farm if u are a ranger?

I believe that the "nerf" only affects multi-hit weapon skills, and I'm pretty sure us rangers don't have any, so no, the tp change has not hurt us at all. I was worried for a little while that Barrage may not return as much tp, but I'm very happy to report that it has not been touched.

Playing sole RNG without raising any other job? Well you have to raise one of the basic jobs to 30 at least to even play RNG (Duh! responce to me inserted here). As for making money, well once you get around lv. 30 you can get like 20k/hr but you'll be spending about 2kgil /hr.

Farming things like silk, dhalmel meat, onions, and such ends up not becoming real cost effective if you're planing to use arrows to hunt faster and becomes to slow if you're using an Axe/Knife. Good knowledge were a lot of the NMs spawn regardless of their drops end up being usefull, a quick stop to kill while on your way somewere else (Suggested to just do a couple wide scans when you get in range, wait a few if the NM drops a good item otherwise better to just run past and only change if you do spot it on scan).

Because you can generally kill fast, subing /THF even if it's only lv. 1 is very effective when farming gil from monsters like Yaguto, Orcs, Qudavs, Goblins, Giants, etc...

and, a question for Rukenshin:
last time i checked there weren't many RNGs in Seraph, has the numbers increased? Is it hard to get the best RNG equipment in Seraph?

You can't level up only 1 character.

-if you're goign to be an advanced, you atleast need a level 30 job. Given from your info, that's THF. To get THF to 30, you also need a subjob (normally MNK or WAR) to atleast 15.

-thf does not make a good subjob for RNG. You'll want to level atleast WAR or NIN as subjobs for RNG (can't level NIN til 30, and if you level NIN you have to level WAR as a subjob anyway).

-You'll want THF to 15 for treasure hunter.

-Post 60, Samurai because a subjob option. Not needed, but it's nice to have all subjobs leveled.

-You'll want WHM to 25 for invisible/sneak.

-BLM to 17 for warp never hurts, so you don't have to spend conquest points on warp scrolls.

so that's atleast 2 other jobs that you'll be leveling (WAR and THF), but it'd be best to level up the others.

As for the update, RNG's can't skillchain as often now unless they are with a SAM. When partying with RNG, they normally get about x1.5 more TP then me.

Well Macht, i know about u having to raise a job untill lvl 30 and then u can do the ranger quest and become a ranger, what i ment was, If i have a lvl 50/25 RNG/NIN and I don't have any other job higher than lvl 30, can I win enough money as a RNG/NIN to equip myself with the best gear? Or will I have to use another job to win enough gill to equip my RNG.

PS im no newb to Final Fantasy I know all that, what I meant is can I get enough gill as a RNG to equip that RNG or will I have to use another job to gain all the gill

id suggest leveling warrior to 30 instead of THF, warrior makes a much better sub job for Ranger. (even though you plan on ninja, there are certain PT configurations where you can safely boost your damage, so having war sub on the side is great).

and yes, you can get enough money to get the best items that you can buy, you just have to be prepared to invest lots of time into farming/NM hunting (if you arent lucky).

rangers farm where everyone else farms... they jsut need arrows instead. Spending about 2k on arrows, i can farm about 70-90k worth of stuff in a few hours.

i'd say thats a pretty good investment.

To be an effective ranger that is an asset to your party and not a liability.

If you are a ranger that is low on gil, you are a useless waste of space. Imagine playing with a mage who does not have enough GIL to buy their MP, and they are looking for a party. Your GIL is your MP. A ranger is basicly a BLM with GIL for MP. Dont forget that.

I would level THF to 15, then war to 30, and play WAR/THF to open RNG and NIN. You can farm with this job combo. You need to level nin if you want to learn how to use Utsaimi (absorb 3 hits) and to dual weild archer knives. The key is learning your job and subjob to the fullest.

At this point you should be farming until you have the gear and arrows you need in order to level up RNG.

Before you even consider exp parties you to save up gil and gear:

here is a list just to lvl 16:

Meat Mithkabobs every 30 mins
Hunters Longbow lvl 12
Powerbow +1 lvl 16
Bone Ring +1 lvl 16
TOP LVL ARROWS upgraded as soon as you level
Goblin baggie quest 1-4 (about 200,000)
and on and on... I could list 100,000,000 in gear I would love to have most of it before lvl 55.

I started out RNG by leveling 2 characters Ant and Ants to 30war/15mnk/15thf --> both mithra and elva. I then leveled RNG on mithra and elvaan to 31. I wanted to try both races for myself to see the differences. In order to start rng I was farming 4 days a week, and leveling 1-2. Back to farming, then back to exp parties. I always had the best gear and the best arrows. I made the ranger job highly respected with those who played with me. I have pride in my job. Playing the most expensive job combo RNG/NIN has a serrious wow factor. I Have a TON of wonderfull memories. One of which I was leveling my sub NIN on Ant from 19-25 in Qufim island. I was pulling and Utsuimi Tanking pugils (very bad ass fish that do 220-488dmg with their special - tanks at this level have 310-370hp mages are barely over 190-200) We got up to chain #5 and 288 exp. Everyone in the party was bragging to their LS and there was a serrious WOW factor. This was my personal highest playing the tank, with a 6 member party, everyone in the party (who is well over 50 now) was amazed at what a highly skilled NIN Tank can do. Learn your subjob and its abilities. Take pride in your job, if others are not working as hard as you; menu -> party -> remove member. May sound mean, but I play hard and expect others to do so as well. Your time = gil. Everyone that I have ever partied with messages me to see if I have openings before they even LFG. Run your own parties, and keep a tight ship. You also need to be the puller. Learn links, learn to zone, learn the monster sight range, learn to run behind monsters. Lots of learning. But at that point you are incontroll of your exp per hour. Final advice; No matter how baddass you think you are, always listen to others advice with two ears. GL, HF.

not neccisarily true. upon reaching 30 i had over 500k saved up, which is enough to get you to around your 30s with no problem (only having to stop once to farm a little extra for Emp Hairpin). Of course, if you decide to spend all of your time leveling instead of taking the time to explore/make money, you will be broke.

There is no way that you leveled from 1-10 as FAST as you can on 2 jobs and made 500k. After 10 you are in parties where you get 1/6th the drops which = about 1000 gil every 4 hour session at most. You must farm. No 2 ways about it.

EXP and GIL are two different things. You will never get both at the same time in large quanities. This is the reason you NEVER EXP as RNG/THF.

As for arrows, I don't remember how many I went through, but they are cheap. The level 1's are something like 600g a stack, 7's 800g, 14 and 16 1.1k. So a level 30 could easily make it to 16, expecially since they'll be selling most of the junk bank to help pay for the new equipment.

You can level to 16, yea. wow? Still need to farm or make money in some way shape or form. After 45 you will be spending about 50,000 a level. and after 55 its a LOT more then that you can start multiplying that number.
