Help, questions about RANGER, worth it?

Before this i want to apologize for my english, its not my main language.
I just bought FFXI, and found it is a great game, fun, great graphics, etc etc, but i just cant decide betweem two classes. I know rangers are very expensive to play but i dont care, i will farm the needed time, and i have a pt to play with all days.
Just a few questions, if anyone could kindly ask it would be great:
1-Is a ranger bored? I heard you mainly use your bow, so its bored to fire again and again and again?
2- How do rangers perform in melee? Can i melee a bit with mobs or are rangers just like mages with a bit more hp?
Was going to ask another question about job/subjob but i will take a look at the other posts. I will wait your answers and opinions , i hope ranger is fun .

1: no, i dont consider ranger boring at all, out damaging most everyone else isnt boring (i said it, and im glad.)

2:Ranger, in my experience should only melee to increase Tp, but its not really necessary, every bow hit gives 12 TP, and if youre willing to famr like you say you are you should have a lot of gil and good gear and you will hit a lot. So, yes you can melee, but thats no reason to skimp on arrows, and i dont recommend it.
