  • What starting job to get? Please give advice!

I want to get the ranger job once i can at level 30. So what job should i start out with to get to level 30 so i can get the ranger job? Also what sub should i use till i get to become a ranger? Would it be a bad idea to be a white mage/ black mage before i become 30 when i can get the ranger job? If not give me some suggestions, i would think if mage isnt a good idea thief or monk would, right?
I need to build a good PC soon so I dont have to wait till March. But I will still play on PS2 when its out.

What starting class should i be?

The best bet would either be thief or warrior. Thief because you will be needing that extra gil for ammo and because of their high amount of agility you will be using when you are a rng. Warrior less than the thief but still possible because the str you will gain from it is very valuble.

    Hope i helped

Out of thf and war, id say start out with war until you get your subjob at lv 18, then stay as war to 30 or get thf to 30. The reason being thf is a very hard job to lv solo, especially without a subjob, and PT invites can be tough for thf untill backstab at lv15.

        Without a doubt:

Start as a Warrior you'll lv to 18 in a snap, then do the sub job quest and lv THF to at least a 15. Then take your guy to lv 30 as WAR/THF then as a RNG go /WAR. /THF is horrible for the RNG, (sneak/trick don't effect bows/guns) but you will definately need it for the gil. At higher lvs, some RNG are starting to /NIN for Blink and accuracy boost.

/nin? hmm never seen this combo yet, where did you see it in a PT? i dont think it still would be as helpfull as /WAR because war gives you the attack boosts like berserker and physical attack up. which helps a ranger, I was in a PT and he just stood back and used Berserker every once in awhile it looked like it helped a lot. I guess /nin would work but it really wouldnt be that helpfull besides ninjutsu(no use for blink really maybe the lower element thing but thats it) they get a dex boost but not power so the /war still hits for more damage.

Ninja subjob is great when ranger gets to level 28. You can dual wield archer knifes with agi+1 ranged accuracy+10.

I did ranger/thief before expansion was available because I wanted the most agi I could get. Even with tweaked gear I missed a lot, which causes emotional damage.

Thief at 30 will also help with hunting wild dhalmels for arrow money, due to having treasure hunter, sneak attack, and flee. Sub level 1 ranger and you'll be able to scan a small radius for the next dhalmels.
            Warning level cat face.
