  • Ranger/Red Mage

Was thinking about a ranger/red mage combo.

My thoughts behind this was: if I ran out of arrows/bullets then I would still have my magic, and if I ran out of MP and the fight still wasn't over  could always use the dagger. Seeing as how they both share the ability to utilize a bow and dagger.

Also, was thinking that the red mage job might make potential parties more receptive to the ranger.

    How does this sound?

actually... I'm planning on being a RNG/RDM myself(switching back and forth at times). I really wouldn't know how it's gonna work but I fancy it. I would also like some people's opinion.
...so we will step away from the mainstream to live like vagabonds and common dropouts... don't you want to hang out and waste your life with us? -Spike

      That combo has medium status.
But it hasn't much high MP STR and INT, witch are important points for the combo, since he will atack phisically and with black magic.
You won't be able to use much magic and you're atacks phisical won't be much efective (they're not bad...but not great too), but it will be a medium character with optional atacks.
There is also one point: if you run out of MP and ammo far from a city... You're done!

I believe, what people say on the boards, is that people usually take rangers for there dmg dealing so subbing a rdm might not be a good idea, when you sub rdm your practically killing your ranger's dmg output but on the other hand I believe red mages have pretty neat spells so I dont know. You shoudnt have to run out of arrows anyways if you are then I suggest subbing thief for more money

Basically what im trying to say is try subbing war for dmg dealing with your ranger and whenever your low on dough sub thief.

        But thats just my opinion

          something about rangers....

level 68 ranger in my PT .... shoot her side winder for 1,600 damage.
I, 70 redmage, shoot my best spell for magic burst. 300 damage. in the same PT.

if you are 68 ranger like her and use /rdm you'll be 68/34.... level 34 magic from red mages will never do more than 50 damage.

So you really really can't replace your arrows with magic from sub job....

wow 1,600 dmg for one WS Jei I was wondering what race was she? and was it part of renkei?

Edit: Also did she get any power ups like beserk or anything like that?

wow.... that's amazing. Do you think they'll nerf it in the next patch? Because that's just insane. And also what exactly does Sidewinder do?

she was a mithra ranger using bows. i note that side winder is a 5 hit WS so it can make any hit from 1 hit to 5 hit or even miss totally. that is why having as high AGI and acuracy boost as possible is a good thing.

I doubt if Square will nerf rangers or any other jobs. From all the history as I remember they mainly boost the strength of each job, make them fresh and more fun to play. hardly that they make any jobs weaker.

plus some draw back is ranger got quite a weak defense. Doing that much damage normally resalt in the enemy turning to the ranger and start killing them. So they really need paladine to be by their side to help protect and pll away the enemy (PLD got ability to "cover", taking hit instead of other members. and their AF got bonus to make enemy easier to turn to them, +hate basicly)

They did some changes that make the game a bit harder for rangers sometimes like you lose TP when you change your ammo (you used to be able to switch ammo without loosing it before). so rangers have to pick the right time to refill their ammos and not to hurt renkei

I was thinking more along the lines of status effects... how effective would those be?
