  • Elyn's Ultimate Guide to PuppetMaster!

    Puppetmaster

The puppetmaster himself has a decent amount of strength, agility, and dexterity to be a decent fighter by himself, but due to lack of special job abilities, alone they cannot keep up with other jobs. With their automaton, though, soloing and partying is very viable.
    ---------------------------------------------------

    Job Abilities
    Overdrive - Level 1
The 2 hour of the puppetmaster, makes the automaton perform at his full potential. The true power of this ability is still being determined. Although I know for a fact that if the automaton is out of MP and Overdrive is used, he will have infinite MP, comparable to manafont.
    Macro: /ja "Overdrive" <me>

    Activate - Level 1
Summons the automaton. 20 minute cooldown.
Note: If you deactivate your automaton at full health, then the 20 minute cooldown does not apply.
    Macro: /ja "Activate" <me>

    Repair - Level 15
Heals the automaton over time, like regen. Requires automaton oil. 2 Minute cooldown. Oil can be bought at Gustaiv at the Victory Gate in Aht Urghan Whitegate. 3 types.
    Automaton Oil - 300 gil - Recover 5 HP/tick
    Automaton Oil +1 - 500 gil - Recovers 10 HP/tick
    Automaton Oil +2 - 1000 gil - Recovers 20 HP/tick
Note: You have to have the automaton oil equipped under ammo.
    Macro: /ja "Repair" <me>
    ---------------------------------------------------

    Pet Commands
    Deploy - Level 1
Commands the automaton to attack, cast spells, and focus fire on the selected mob.
    Macro: /pet "Deploy" <t>

    Deactivate - Level 1
    Desummons the automaton.
    Macro: /pet "Deactivate" <me>

    Retrieve - Level 10
Brings the automaton back to your side. Stops any attacking.
    Macro: /pet "Retrieve" <me>

    Maneuvers - Level 1
Gives priority to certain abilities and moves according to their attachment element. Also gives passive traits to automaton for selected element.
    Macro: /pet "Fire Maneuver" <me>

    Fire Maneuver: STR/Attack/Increase enmity
    Ice Maneuver: INT/Elemental magic/Magic attack
    Wind Maneuver: AGI/Evasion/Ranged accuracy
    Earth Maneuver: VIT/Defense
    Thunder Maneuver: DEX/Accuracy
    Water Maneuver: MND/Magic defense/Curing
    Light Maneuver: CHR/HP recovery
    Dark Maneuver: MP/MP recovery
    ---------------------------------------------------

    Equipping Attachments
In Nashmau, the NPC selling them can be found at the very very very north point of the town, in an NPC shop upstairs. Each attachment is roughly 4k-9k.

Once your attachments are bought, take the ship back to Aht Urghan Whitegate. Once there, talk to the women in the automaton shop. She'll tell you that if you trade her the attachments she will allow you to plug them into your automaton. You only need to trade her 1 of each attachment. I realize that you can buy up to 12 of each attachment. My guess for this is that there are some synthesis recipes that may require an attachment, and SE did crafters a favor by allowing them to stack these, so they won't take up so much room. I mean, come on, you can only buy them in some far off island anyway. (That takes 26 minutes to get to BY BOAT =( ))

After you've traded all the attachments to the women, you are free to attach them to your automaton. You can only attach them when he is NOT summoned. Also, the frame and head only allows so many attachments of one element on it. For instance, the harlequin head and frame allows 3 basic element attachments (fire, ice, wind, stone) and 2 dark and light attachments. This limits some combination. For instance, you cannot attach both mana conserver and mana tank to your automaton, because mana tank requires 2 dark element spots and mana conserver requires 1, which is a total of 3 dark element spots, but you only have 2! Loser!

Re: Elyn's Ultimate Guide to PuppetMaster!

Nice guide, however, I would like to make a few corrections (beyond maybe the color tags? It's making it fairly hard to read).

    Repair - Level 15
Heals the automaton over time, like regen. Requires automaton oil. 2 Minute cooldown. Oil can be bought at Gustaiv at the Victory Gate in Aht Urghan Whitegate. 3 types.
    Automaton Oil - 300 gil - Recover 5 HP/tick
    Automaton Oil +1 - 500 gil - Recovers 10 HP/tick
    Automaton Oil +2 - 1000 gil - Recovers 20 HP/tick
Automaton Oil (NQ) gives 10 HP/tick, and +1 gives 20 HP/tick. The maximum for the NQ is 90-100, I'm not sure which. I've read 90, but I thought from my experience it was 100. +1 recovers at least 200.

Also, as far as the body upgrades go, the third upgrade is NOT 3 gold pieces, it's just 1.

Re: Elyn's Ultimate Guide to PuppetMaster!

This might be a silly question, but how can I view my Automaton's HP/MP/TP? <pettp> and <pethpp> work just like for BST, but beyond that I can't figure it out.

Is there any way for me to view what melee and magic skill my Automaton is at?

Also, is there any way for me to get my Automaton to use magic more often? I'm just at beginning levels and the only way to get him to cast anything seems to be to have him sit to full health and then Deploy him. He uses Dia to start everytime I do this. Otherwise he won't do it.

By the way, thank you so much for this FAQ. I'm just trying out PUP, and it seems very interesting so far. This will help a lot.

For skill, if you go to equipment then automaton all its stats and skill levels are liested on the elft hand side, as well as hp and mp.

<pettp> and <pethpp> work also i believe, there isnt a command for mp that i know of tho, wish they would add one in.

In response to the magic thing, do you have the Mana Booster attachment?

If so, then there's not much you can do outside the ADD trick.

Re: Elyn's Ultimate Guide to PuppetMaster!

I'm level five now and I bought a series of attachments for my Automaton from the Vendor in Nashmau:

            Tension Spring (2x fire)
            Inhibitor (1x fire)
            Loudspeaker (2x ice)
            Accelerator (2x wind)
            Armor Plate (2x earth)
            Volt gun (2x thunder)
            Mana jammer (2x water)
            Auto-repair kit (2x light)
            Mana tank (2x dark)

At level 5, anyway, the Auto-repair kit is giving my Automaton 5HP, while the Mana tank is giving it 1MP.

Only when I perform Dark Maneuver and Light Maneuver will my Automaton actively regenerate MP and HP (while not healing).

However, I don't really notice a difference when using other Maneuvers (e.g., when I use Earth Maneuver, I don't notice my Automaton taking less damage even though he has the Earth Element Armor Plate on... however, this could be because I'm at such a low level that the difference isn't noticeable yet).

Finally, I noticed that my Automaton has some modifiers on its stats. It seems that this is directly related to the Maneuvers I have activated. Here's how it's breaking down for me at level 5:
            Thunder: +1 DEX
            Water: +1 MND
            Earth: +1 VIT
            Wind: +1 AGI
            Ice: +1 INT
            Fire: +1 STR
            Light: +1 CHR
            Dark: ---

So I'm wondering from the experienced PUPs, what do these other Maneuvers do in regards to the attachments? Do they only function if the attachment states something about Maneuvers in them (for example, Mana Tank says "Increases MP. Adds "Refresh" effect to Dark Maneuver") and act simply to increase the stats I listed above?

            Thanks again.

Re: Elyn's Ultimate Guide to PuppetMaster!

Patchinko, if the attatchment doesn't say "Adds xxx effect when using xxx maneuver" or whatever, then you don't need to use it to add the affect. Otherwise I believe that the effect is already in place. Like you don't need to do ice maneuver to make a loudspeaker increase your attack, and so on.

So, the only other way your maneuvers will affect your puppet (other than that stat increasing deal) is when you have an attatchment.

Good luck, and if you have any other questions just post them

The only weapon skill I've seen so far is Slapstick. To be honest, I'm not sure of they fit anywhere on the renkei chart o-o

I think some skilled skillchain technician person will have to reseach that....

Re: Elyn's Ultimate Guide to PuppetMaster!

Can you have more than one frame? Kinda like, if I wanted to get the melee at level 10, then decided I want the magic at level 20, do I still keep my melee frame?

ALso, suppose I wanted to get a different at level 10, but I already chose one of the others? Can i change my mind after the fact?

I don't think you can change your mind after you've chosen, but yes, you get to keep your previous frames.
                          Ho-hum.

Re: Elyn's Ultimate Guide to PuppetMaster!

You get a quest at level 10, level 20, and level 30.

At level 10, he'll offer you one of three frames.
A magical frame, an accurate frame, or a hard frame.

The magical one is the Stormwaker, the accurate the Sharpshot, while the hard frame is the Valoredge.

Let's say for instance I picked the "hard frame."
After my choice, he'll ask for a set of ingrediants.

After a few minutes, I realize one of the ingredients is way too much money, so I talk to him again. Unfortunately, he won't let me change my mind. He'll continue asking for the ValorEdge frame ingredients until he receives them all. Even if you are level 20.

After he receives the ingredients, you have to wait one JP day. (Pick up at 10 AM central)

Then, at level 20, you have between the accurate frame and the magical frame.
After receiving a new frame, you then have the choice of what frame to use on your automaton. You can use all of the valor edge frame, all of the stormwaker frame, or mix them up. (stormwaker head and valoredge body)

                            So, in conclusion....
Do you get to change your mind before finishign the quest?
No. You must finish the frame you pick to pick a new frame.

Do you keep old frames even when you receive new ones?
Yup. All frames you receive are permanent. As are attachments.
